²⁷ But he that did the injury to his neighbour thrust him away, saying: Who hath appointed thee prince and judge over us:

¹⁹ Because thy servant hath found grace before thee, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewn to me, in saving my life, and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil seize me, and I die.

¹⁴ But one of the servants told, Abigail, the wife of Nabal, saying: Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness, to salute our master: and he rejected them. ¹⁵ These men were very good to us, and gave us no trouble: Neither did we ever lose any thing all the time that we conversed with them in the desert.

⁷ He that teacheth a scorner, doth an injury to himself; and he that rebuketh a wicked man, getteth himself a blot. ⁸ Rebuke not a scorner, lest he hate thee. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

²³ And when he was come into the temple, there came to him, as he was teaching, the chief priests and ancients of the people, saying: By what authority dost thou these things? And who hath given thee this authority?

¹⁴ But he said to him: Man, who hath appointed me judge or divider over you?

³⁶ Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would certainly strive that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now my kingdom is not from hence. ³⁷ Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king. For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

¹² And from henceforth Pilate sought to release him. But the Jews cried out, saying: If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar's friend. For whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. ¹³ Now when Pilate had heard these words, he brought Jesus forth and sat down in the judgment seat, in the place that is called Lithostrotos, and in Hebrew Gabbatha. ¹⁴ And it was the parasceve of the pasch, about the sixth hour: and he saith to the Jews: Behold your king. ¹⁵ But they cried out: Away with him: Away with him: Crucify him. Pilate saith to them: shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered: We have no king but Caesar.

¹³ The God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus, whom you indeed delivered up and denied before the face of Pilate, when he judged he should be released. ¹⁴ But you denied the Holy One and the Just: and desired a murderer to be granted unto you. ¹⁵ But the author of life you killed, whom God hath raised from the dead: of which we are witnesses.

⁷ And setting them in the midst, they asked: By what power or by what name, have you done this?

¹¹ This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner. ¹² Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.

³³ When they had heard these things, they were cut to the heart: and they thought to put them to death.

³⁵ This Moses, whom they refused, saying: Who hath appointed thee prince and judge? Him God sent to be prince and redeemer, by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the burning bush.

³⁹ Whom our fathers would not obey: but thrust him away and in their hearts turned back into Egypt,

⁵⁴ Now hearing these things, they were cut to the heart: and they gnashed with their teeth at him.
