⁷ And setting them in the midst, they asked: By what power or by what name, have you done this?

¹⁴ But he answered: Who hath appointed thee prince and judge over us? wilt thou kill me, as thou didst yesterday kill the Egyptian? Moses feared, and said: How is this come to be known?

¹² They proclaimed a fast, and made Naboth sit among the chief of the people. ¹³ And bringing two men, sons of the devil, they made them sit against him: and they, like men of the devil, bore witness against him before the people: saying: Naboth hath blasphemed God and the king. Wherefore they brought him forth without the city, and stoned him to death. ¹⁴ And they sent to Jezabel, saying: Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

²³ And when he was come into the temple, there came to him, as he was teaching, the chief priests and ancients of the people, saying: By what authority dost thou these things? And who hath given thee this authority?

²⁸ And they say to him: By what authority dost thou these things? And who hath given thee this authority that thou shouldst do these things?

¹⁸ The Jews, therefore, answered, and said to him: What sign dost thou shew unto us, seeing thou dost these things?

³ And the scribes and Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,

⁹ But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ Be it known to you all and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him, this man standeth here before you, whole.

²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, ²⁸ Saying: Commanding, we commanded you that you should not teach in this name. And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine: and you have a mind to bring the blood of this man upon us.

⁴⁰ And calling in the apostles, after they had scourged them, they charged them that they should not speak at all in the name of Jesus. And they dismissed them.
