^{11 (2:10)} Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying:

¹⁸ (Then the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Did I not tell thee, that he prophesieth no good to me, but always evil?) ¹⁹ And he added and said: Hear thou, therefore, the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on the right hand and on the left: ²⁰ And the Lord said: Who shall deceive Achab, king of Israel, that he may go up, and fall at Ramoth Galaad? And one spoke words of this manner, and another otherwise. ²¹ And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said: I will deceive him. And the Lord said to him: By what means? ²² And he said: I will go forth, and be a lying spirit, in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said: Thou shalt deceive him, and shalt prevail: go forth, and do so.

And the Lord said: Thou shalt deceive, and shalt prevail: go out, and do so. ²² Now therefore behold the Lord hath put a spirit of lying in the mouth of all thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.

^{11 (81:12)} But my people heard not my voice: and Israel hearkened not to me. ^{12 (81:13)} So I let them go according to the desires of their heart: they shall walk in their own inventions.

¹⁷ But persecuted the poor man and the beggar; and the broken in heart, to put him to death.

⁹ And he said: Go, and thou shalt say to this people: Hearing, hear, and understand not: and see the vision, and know it not. ¹⁰ Blind the heart of this people, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes: lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted and I heal them.

⁹ Be astonished, and wonder, waver, and stagger: be drunk, and not with wine: stagger, and not with drunkenness. ¹⁰ For the Lord hath mingled for you the spirit of a deep sleep, he will shut up your eyes, he will cover your prophets and princes, that see visions. ¹¹ And the vision of all shall be unto you as the words of a book that is sealed which when they shall deliver to one that is learned, they shall say: Read this: and he shall answer: I cannot, for it is sealed. ¹² And the book shall be given to one that knoweth no letters, and it shall be said to him: Read: and he shall answer: I know no letters. ¹³ And the Lord said: Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips glorify me, but their heart is far from me, and they have feared me with the commandment and doctrines of men: ¹⁴ Therefore behold I will proceed to cause an admiration in this people, by a great and wonderful miracle: for wisdom shall perish from their wise men, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

²⁰ Part thereof is ashes: his foolish heart adoreth it, and he will not save his soul, nor say: Perhaps there is a lie in my right hand.

⁴ Wherefore I also will choose their mockeries, and will bring upon them the things they feared: because I called, and there was none that would answer; I have spoken, and they heard not; and they have done evil in my eyes, and have chosen the things that displease me.

¹⁰ For they prophesy lies to you: to remove you far from your country, and cast you out, and to make you perish.

⁹ And when the prophet shall err, and speak a word: I the Lord have deceived that prophet: and I will stretch forth my hand upon him, and will cut him off from the midst of my people Israel.

²⁹ Whilst they see vain things in thy regard, and they divine lies: to bring thee upon the necks of the wicked that are wounded, whose appointed day is come in the time of iniquity.

⁵ For many will come in my name saying, I am Christ. And they will seduce many.

¹¹ And many false prophets shall rise and shall seduce many.

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaias said again: ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart and be converted: and I should heal them. ⁴¹ These things said Isaias, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him. ⁴² However, many of the chief men also believed in him: but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, that they might not be cast out of the synagogue. ⁴³ For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

²¹ Because that, when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God or given thanks: but became vain in their thoughts. And their foolish heart was darkened. ²² For, professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. ²³ And they changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of the image of a corruptible man and of birds, and of fourfooted beasts and of creeping things. ²⁴ Wherefore, God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness: to dishonour their own bodies among themselves. ²⁵ Who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

²⁸ And as they liked not to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them up to a reprobate sense, to do those things which are not convenient.

³ For our exhortation was not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deceit.

¹ Now the Spirit manifestly saith that in the last times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to spirits of error and doctrines of devils,
