²⁰ For what glory is it, if, committing sin and being buffeted for it, you endure? But if doing well you suffer patiently: this is thankworthy before God.

¹⁰ Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: ¹² Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.

⁴⁷ And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens this?

⁶⁷ Then did they spit in his face and buffeted him. And others struck his face with the palms of their hands,

⁶⁵ And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to buffet him and to say unto him: Prophesy. And the servants struck him with the palms their hands.

³² And if you love them that love you, what thanks are to you? For sinners also love those that love them.

¹ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercy of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing unto God, your reasonable service. ² And be not conformed to this world: but be reformed in the newness of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and the acceptable and the perfect will of God.

¹¹ Even unto this hour we both hunger and thirst and are naked and are buffeted and have no fixed abode.

¹⁰ Proving what is well pleasing to God.

¹⁸ But I have all and abound: I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things you sent, an odour of sweetness, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

¹⁹ For this is thankworthy: if, for conscience towards God, a man endure sorrows, suffering wrongfully.

¹⁴ But if also you suffer any thing for justice' sake, blessed are ye. And be not afraid of their fear: and be not troubled.

¹⁷ For it is better doing well (if such be the will of God) to suffer than doing ill.

¹⁴ If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory and power of God, and that which is his Spirit resteth upon you. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or a railer or coveter of other men's things. ¹⁶ But, if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed: but let him glorify God in that name.
