² On the first day of the week, let every one of you put apart with himself, laying up what it shall well please him: that when I come, the collections be not then to be made.

¹² And Isaac sowed in that land, and he found that same year a hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.

²⁷ Laban said to him: Let me find favour in thy sight: I have learned, by experience, that God hath blessed me for thy sake.

³⁰ Thou hadst but little before I came to thee, and now thou art become rich: and the Lord hath blessed thee at my coming. It is reasonable, therefore, that I should now provide also for my own house.

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all thy mercies, and of thy truth which thou hast fulfilled to thy servant. With my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I return with two companies.

¹¹ And take the blessing which I have brought thee, and which God hath given me, who giveth all things. He took it with much ado at his brother's earnest pressing him,

¹⁸ But remember the Lord thy God, that he hath given thee strength, that he might fulfil his covenant, concerning which he swore to thy fathers, as this present day sheweth.

¹¹ There will not be wanting poor in the land of thy habitation: therefore I command thee to open thy hand to thy needy and poor brother, that liveth in the land. ¹² When thy brother a Hebrew man, or Hebrew woman is sold to thee, and hath served thee six years, in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free: ¹³ And when thou sendest him out free, thou shalt not let him go away empty: ¹⁴ But shall give him for his way out of thy flocks, and out of thy barnfloor, and thy winepress, wherewith the Lord thy God shall bless thee.

¹⁰ Azarias the chief priest of the race of Sadoc answered him, saying: Since the firstfruits began to be offered in the house of the Lord, we have eaten, and have been filled, and abundance is left, because the Lord hath blessed his people: and of that which is left is this great store which thou seest.

⁹ And you are cursed with want, and you afflict me, even the whole nation of you. ¹⁰ Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and try me in this, saith the Lord: if I open not unto you the flood-gates of heaven, and pour you out a blessing even to abundance.

⁴¹ And Jesus sitting over against the treasury, beheld how the people cast money into the treasury. And many that were rich cast in much. ⁴² And there came a certain poor widow: and she cast in two mites, which make a farthing. ⁴³ And calling his disciples together, he saith to them: Amen I say to you, this poor widow hath cast in more than all they who have cast into the treasury. ⁴⁴ For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want cast in all she had, even her whole living.

⁸ She hath done what she could: she is come beforehand to anoint my body for the burial.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in that which is greater: and he that is unjust in that which is little is unjust also in that which is greater.

¹ And on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared.

¹⁹ Now when it was late the same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them: Peace be to you.

¹ Now we make known unto you, brethren, the grace of God that hath been given in the churches of Macedonia. ² That in much experience of tribulation, they have had abundance of joy and their very deep poverty hath abounded unto the riches of their simplicity. ³ For according to their power (I bear them witness) and beyond their power, they were willing:

¹¹ Now therefore perform ye it also in deed: that as your mind is forward to be willing, so it may be also to perform, out of that which you have. ¹² For if the will be forward, it is accepted according to that which a man hath: not according to that which he hath not. ¹³ For I mean not that others should be eased and you burdened, but by an equality. ¹⁴ In this present time let your abundance supply their want, that their abundance also may supply your want: that there may be an equality, ¹⁵ As it is written: He that had much had nothing over; and he that had little had no want.

³ Now I have sent the brethren, that the thing which we boast of concerning you be not made void in this behalf, that (as I have said) you may be ready: ⁴ Lest, when the Macedonians shall come with me and find you unprepared, we (not to say ye) should be ashamed in this matter. ⁵ Therefore I thought it necessary to desire the brethren that they would go to you before and prepare this blessing before promised, to be ready, so as a blessing, not as covetousness.
