³⁷ If any seem to be a prophet or spiritual, let him know the things that I write to you, that they are the commandments of the Lord.

³ He took up his parable and said: Balaam the son of Beor hath said: The man hath said, whose eye is stopped up: ⁴ The bearer of the words of God hath said, he that hath beheld the vision of the Almighty, he that falleth, and so his eyes are opened:

¹⁶ The hearer of the words of God hath said, who knoweth the doctrine of the Highest, and seeth the visions of the Almighty, who falling hath his eyes opened:

¹⁶ He that heareth you heareth me: and he that despiseth you despiseth me: and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

³ For I say, by the grace that is given me, to all that are among you, not to be more wise than it behoveth to be wise, but to be wise unto sobriety and according as God hath divided to every one the measure of faith.

²⁵ Now, concerning virgins, I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give counsel, as having obtained mercy of the Lord, to be faithful.

⁴⁰ But more blessed shall she be, if she so remain, according to my counsel. And I think that I also have the spirit of God.

² And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he hath not yet known as he ought to know.

¹ If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. ² And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. ³ And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

⁷ See the things that are according to outward appearance. If any man trust to himself, that he is Christ's let him think this again with himself, that as he is Christ's, so are we also.

¹² For we dare not match or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but we measure ourselves by ourselves and compare ourselves with ourselves.

⁴ For if he that cometh preacheth another Christ, whom we have not preached; or if you receive another Spirit, whom you have not received; or another gospel, which you have not received: you might well bear with him.

¹² But what I do, that I will do: that I may cut off the occasion from them that desire occasion: that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. ¹³ For such false apostles are deceitful workmen, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder: for Satan himself transformeth himself into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers be transformed as the ministers of justice, whose end shall be according to their works.

⁸ For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit of the spirit shall reap life everlasting.

¹ For the rest therefore, brethren, pray and beseech you in the Lord Jesus that, as you have received from us, how you ought to walk and to please God, so also you would walk, that you may abound the more. ² For you know what precepts I have given to you by the Lord Jesus. ³ For this is the will of God, your sanctification: That you should abstain from fornication: ⁴ That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour, ⁵ Not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles that know not God: ⁶ And that no man overreach nor circumvent his brother in business: because the Lord is the avenger of all these things, as we have told you before and have testified. ⁷ For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification. ⁸ Therefore, he that despiseth these things, despiseth not man, but God, who also hath given his holy Spirit in us.

² That you may be mindful of those words which I told you before from the holy prophet and of your apostles, of the precepts of the Lord and Saviour.

⁶ We are of God. He that knoweth God heareth us. He that is not of God heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

¹⁷ But you, my dearly beloved, be mindful of the words which have been spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:
