¹ The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

¹¹ From that land went out Asshur, and built Nineveh, and Rehoboth-Ir, and Calah,

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

²⁸ In the year of the death of king Ahaz was this burden:

¹ The burden of Moab: For in the night of being laid waste, Ar of Moab is destroyed; for in the night of being laid waste, Kir of Moab is destroyed!

¹ The burden of Egypt. Behold, Jehovah rideth upon a swift cloud, and cometh to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt are moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt melteth in the midst of it.

¹ The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through, so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

¹ The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

¹ The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish! for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, none entering in. From the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.

³³ And when this people, or a prophet, or a priest, ask thee, saying, What is the burden of Jehovah? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even cast you off, saith Jehovah. ³⁴ And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of Jehovah, I will even punish that man and his house. ³⁵ Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother: What hath Jehovah answered? and, What hath Jehovah spoken? ³⁶ And the burden of Jehovah shall ye mention no more; for every man`s own word shall be his burden: for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of Jehovah of hosts, our God. ³⁷ Thus shalt thou say to the prophet: What hath Jehovah answered thee? and, What hath Jehovah spoken?

² Arise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

³ And Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days` journey. <sup>4</sup> And Jonah began to enter into the city a day`s journey, and he cried and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!

⁸ Nineveh hath been like a pool of water, since the day she existed, yet they flee away. ... Stand! Stand! But none looketh back.

¹³ And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, a place of drought like the wilderness.

¹ The burden of the word of Jehovah, in the land of Hadrach, and [on] Damascus shall it rest; (for Jehovah hath an eye upon men, and upon all the tribes of Israel;)
