¹⁸ Who is a ?God like unto thee, that forgiveth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in loving-kindness.

¹¹ Who is like unto thee, Jehovah, among the gods? Who is like unto thee, glorifying thyself in holiness, Fearful [in] praises, doing wonders?

¹⁸ And he said, Let me, I pray thee, see thy glory. ¹⁹ And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thy face, and I will proclaim the name of Jehovah before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

⁶ And Jehovah passed by before his face, and proclaimed, Jehovah, Jehovah ?God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ keeping mercy unto thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but by no means clearing [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children`s children, upon the third and upon the fourth [generation].

⁹ and said, If indeed I have found grace in thine eyes, Lord, let the Lord, I pray thee, go in our midst; for it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for an inheritance!

¹⁸ Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in goodness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but by no means clearing [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and fourth [generation]. ¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy loving-kindness, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

²¹ He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen wrong in Israel; Jehovah his God is with him, and the shout of a king is in his midst.

²⁶ There is none like unto the ?God of Jeshurun, Who rideth upon the heavens to thy help, And in his majesty, upon the clouds.

²³ And he said, Jehovah, God of Israel! there is no God like thee, in the heavens above, or on the earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart;

¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were they mindful of thy wonders which thou hadst done among them; but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion made a captain to return to their bondage. But thou art a +God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great loving-kindness, and thou forsookest them not.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the afflicted from one stronger than he, yea, the afflicted and the needy from him that spoileth him!

³ Iniquities have prevailed against me: our transgressions, thou wilt forgive them.

¹⁹ And thy righteousness, O God, reacheth on high, thou who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee?

⁶ I remember my song in the night; I muse in mine own heart, and my spirit maketh diligent search. ⁷ Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? ⁸ Hath his loving-kindness ceased for ever? hath [his] word come to an end from generation to generation? ⁹ Hath ?God forgotten to be gracious? or hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. ¹⁰ Then said I, This is my weakness: -- the years of the right hand of the Most High

⁴ Bring us back, O God of our salvation, and cause thine indignation toward us to cease. ⁵ Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger from generation to generation?

⁵ For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and art of great loving-kindness unto all that call upon thee.

¹⁵ But thou, Lord, art a ?God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth.

⁶ For who in the heaven can be compared to Jehovah? [who] among the sons of the mighty shall be likened to Jehovah?

⁸ Jehovah, God of hosts, who is like unto thee, the strong Jah? And thy faithfulness is round about thee.

² Bless Jehovah, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: ³ Who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases;

⁸ Jehovah is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness. ⁹ He will not always chide, neither will he keep [his anger] for ever.

¹³ As a father pitieth [his] children, so Jehovah pitieth them that fear him.

⁵ Who is like unto Jehovah our God, who hath placed his dwelling on high; ⁶ Who humbleth himself to look on the heavens and on the earth?

⁴ But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

⁷ Let Israel hope in Jehovah, because with Jehovah there is loving-kindness, and with him is plenteous redemption; ⁸ And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

¹⁸ Come now, let us reason together, saith Jehovah: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

¹⁸ To whom then will ye liken ?God? and what likeness will ye compare unto him?

²⁵ To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

²⁵ -- I, I [am] He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and I will not remember thy sins.

²² I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

⁸ Remember this, and shew yourselves men; call it to mind, ye transgressors. ⁹ Remember the former things of old; for I [am] ?God, and there is none else; [I am] God, and there is none like me;

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto Jehovah, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹⁰ Thou wast wearied by the multitude of thy ways; [but] thou saidst not, It is of no avail. Thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not sick [of it].

¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would fail before me, and the souls [which] I have made.

⁵ For [as] a young man marrieth a virgin, shall thy sons marry thee; and with the joy of the bridegroom over the bride, shall thy God rejoice over thee.

¹⁹ And I will rejoice over Jerusalem, and will joy in my people; and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

⁵ Will he keep [his anger] for ever? Will he preserve it perpetually? Behold, thou hast spoken and hast done evil things, and thou art [so] determined.

¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith Jehovah: I will not make my face dark upon you; for I am merciful, saith Jehovah; I will not keep [anger] for ever.

³⁴ And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will pardon their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

⁴¹ And I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will assuredly plant them in this land with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

⁸ -- and Ebed-melech went forth out of the king`s house, and spoke to the king, saying,

²⁰ In those days, and at that time, saith Jehovah, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon those whom I leave remaining.

³¹ For the Lord will not cast off for ever; ³² but if he have caused grief, he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses:

¹¹ Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

⁹ With the Lord our God are mercies and pardons, for we have rebelled against him;

³² And it shall be that whosoever shall call upon the name of Jehovah shall be saved: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as Jehovah hath said, and for the residue whom Jehovah shall call.

⁸ And Jehovah said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb-line. And the Lord said, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.

² And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer-fruit. And Jehovah said unto me, The end is come upon my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.

² And he prayed unto Jehovah, and said, Ah, Jehovah, was not this my saying when I was yet in my country? Therefore I was minded to flee at first unto Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious ?God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great loving-kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

¹² I will surely assemble, O Jacob, the whole of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as sheep of Bozrah, as a flock in the midst of their pasture: they shall make great noise by reason of [the multitude of] men.

⁷ and I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation; and Jehovah shall reign over them in mount Zion, from henceforth even for ever.

³ Therefore will he give them up, until the time when she which travaileth shall have brought forth: and the residue of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.

⁷ And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples as dew from Jehovah, as showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, neither waiteth for the sons of men. ⁸ And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and there is none to deliver.

¹⁴ Feed thy people with thy rod, the flock of thine inheritance, dwelling alone in the forest, in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

¹⁷ Jehovah thy God is in thy midst, a mighty one that will save: he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will exult over thee with singing.

⁵ and having found it, he lays it upon his own shoulders, rejoicing; ⁶ and being come to the house, calls together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep. ⁷ I say unto you, that thus there shall be joy in heaven for one repenting sinner, [more] than for ninety and nine righteous who have no need of repentance.

⁹ and having found it she calls together the friends and neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost. ¹⁰ Thus, I say unto you, there is joy before the angels of God for one repenting sinner.

²³ and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry: ²⁴ for this my son was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found. And they began to make merry.

³² But it was right to make merry and rejoice, because this thy brother was dead and has come to life again, and was lost and has been found.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.

³⁸ Be it known unto you, therefore, brethren, that through this man remission of sins is preached to you, ³⁹ and from all things from which ye could not be justified in the law of Moses, in him every one that believes is justified.

⁴ But what says the divine answer to him? I have left to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed knee to Baal.

⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ (we too being dead in offences,) has quickened us with the Christ, (ye are saved by grace,)

⁹ not according to the covenant which I made to their fathers in [the] day of my taking their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because *they* did not continue in my covenant, and *I* did not regard them, saith [the] Lord. ¹⁰ Because this [is] the covenant that I will covenant to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: Giving my laws into their mind, I will write them also upon their hearts; and I will be to them for God, and *they* shall be to me for people. ¹¹ And they shall not teach each his fellow-citizen, and each his brother, saying, Know the Lord; because all shall know me in themselves, from [the] little one [among them] unto [the] great among them. ¹² Because I will be merciful to their unrighteousnesses, and their sins and their lawlessnesses I will never remember any more.

¹³ for judgment [will be] without mercy to him that has shewn no mercy. Mercy glories over judgment.
