¹⁰ He is unto me [as] a bear lying in wait, a lion in secret places.

¹⁶ And it increaseth: thou huntest me as a fierce lion; and ever again thou shewest thy marvellous power upon me.

⁹ He lieth in wait secretly, like a lion in his thicket; he lieth in wait to catch the afflicted: he doth catch the afflicted, drawing him into his net.

¹² He is like a lion that is greedy of its prey, and as a young lion lurking in secret places.

¹³ I kept still until the morning; ... as a lion, so doth he break all my bones. From day to night thou wilt make an end of me.

¹⁴ For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah. I, I will tear and go away; I will carry off, and there shall be none to deliver.

¹ Come and let us return unto Jehovah: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

⁷ And I will be unto them as a lion; as a leopard I will lurk for them by the way; ⁸ I will meet them as a bear bereaved of her [whelps], and will rend the covering of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lioness: the beast of the field shall tear them.

¹⁸ Woe unto you that desire the day of Jehovah! To what end is the day of Jehovah for you? It shall be darkness and not light: ¹⁹ as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. ²⁰ Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
