² Can a man be profitable to ?God? surely it is unto himself that the wise man is profitable.

¹³ to keep the commandments of Jehovah, and his statutes, which I command thee this day, for thy good?

¹⁵ What is the Almighty that we should serve him? and what are we profited if we pray unto him?

⁶ If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him? ⁷ If thou be righteous, what givest thou to him? or what doth he receive of thy hand? ⁸ Thy wickedness [may affect] a man as thou [art], and thy righteousness a son of man.

² Thou [my soul] hast said to Jehovah, Thou art the Lord: my goodness [extendeth] not to thee; --

¹³ Blessed is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. ¹⁴ For the gain thereof is better than the gain of silver, and her revenue than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not equal unto her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand riches and honour. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is he that retaineth her.

⁷ The beginning of wisdom [is], Get wisdom; and with all thy getting get intelligence. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to thy head a garland of grace; a crown of glory will she bestow upon thee.

¹² If thou art wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself; and if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

¹¹ Wisdom is as good as an inheritance, and profitable to them that see the sun. ¹² For wisdom is a defence [as] money is a defence; but the excellency of knowledge is, [that] wisdom maketh them that possess it to live.

²⁹ But if thy right eye be a snare to thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.

¹⁰ Thus *ye* also, when ye shall have done all things that have been ordered you, say, We are unprofitable bondmen; we have done what it was our duty to do.

⁷ Be not deceived: God is not mocked; for whatever a man shall sow, that also shall he reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his own flesh, shall reap corruption from the flesh; but he that sows to the Spirit, from the Spirit shall reap eternal life:
