¹ And Agrippa said to Paul, It is permitted thee to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretching out his hand answered in his defence:

²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one regarded;

¹³ He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.

¹⁷ He that is first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

²⁷ And behold, I stretched out my hand over thee, and diminished thine appointed portion; and I gave thee over unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, who were confounded at thy lewd way.

⁵¹ Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?

¹⁵ And the Lord said to him, Go, for this [man] is an elect vessel to me, to bear my name before both nations and kings and [the] sons of Israel:

¹ Brethren and fathers, hear my defence which I now make to you.

¹⁶ to whom I answered, It is not [the] custom of the Romans to give up any man before that the accused have the accusers face to face, and he have got opportunity of defence touching the charge.

² I count myself happy, king Agrippa, in having to answer to-day before thee concerning all of which I am accused by the Jews,

²¹ But unto Israel he says, All the day long I have stretched out my hands unto a people disobeying and opposing.
