²⁵ nor is served by men`s hands as needing something, himself giving to all life and breath and all things;

⁷ And Jehovah Elohim formed Man, dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and Man became a living soul.

²² And they fell on their faces, and said, O ?God, the God of the spirits of all flesh! shall *one* man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with the whole assembly?

¹⁶ Let Jehovah, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the assembly,

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the spirit of all flesh of man.

² Can a man be profitable to ?God? surely it is unto himself that the wise man is profitable.

³ All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of +God is in my nostrils,

⁴ The Spirit of ?God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

¹⁴ If he only thought of himself, [and] gathered unto him his spirit and his breath,

⁶ If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him? ⁷ If thou be righteous, what givest thou to him? or what doth he receive of thy hand?

² Thou [my soul] hast said to Jehovah, Thou art the Lord: my goodness [extendeth] not to thee; --

⁸ I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices, or thy burnt-offerings, continually before me; ⁹ I will take no bullock out of thy house, [nor] he-goats out of thy folds: ¹⁰ For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle upon a thousand hills; ¹¹ I know all the fowl of the mountains, and the roaming creatures of the field are mine: ¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell thee; for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. ¹³ Should I eat the flesh of bulls, and drink the blood of goats?

²⁷ These all look unto thee, that thou mayest give their food in its season: ²⁸ That thou givest unto them, they gather; thou openest thy hand, they are filled with good. ²⁹ Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; thou takest away their breath, they expire and return to their dust. ³⁰ Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created, and thou renewest the face of the earth.

⁵ Thus saith ?God, Jehovah, he that created the heavens and stretched them out, he that spread forth the earth and its productions, he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would fail before me, and the souls [which] I have made.

²⁰ Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place; upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched. ²¹ Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. ²² For I spoke not unto your fathers, nor commanded them concerning burnt-offerings and sacrifices, in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt; ²³ but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will not smell [a sweet odour] in your solemn assemblies. ²² For if ye offer up unto me burnt-offerings and your oblations, I will not accept [them]; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fatted beasts. ²³ Take away from me the noise of thy songs, and I will not hear the melody of thy lutes;

¹ The burden of the word of Jehovah concerning Israel. [Thus] saith Jehovah, who stretcheth out the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him:

⁴⁵ that ye may be [the] sons of your Father who is in [the] heavens; for he makes his sun rise on evil and good, and sends rain on just and unjust.

¹³ But go and learn what [that] is -- I will have mercy and not sacrifice; for I have not come to call righteous [men] but sinners.

¹⁷ though indeed he did not leave himself without witness, doing good, and giving to you from heaven rain and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

²⁸ for in him we live and move and exist; as also some of the poets amongst you have said, For we are also his offspring.

³⁵ or who has first given to him, and it shall be rendered to him?

¹⁷ Enjoin on those rich in the present age not to be high-minded, nor to trust on the uncertainty of riches; but in the God who affords us all things richly for [our] enjoyment;
