⁴⁰ And having gone out of the prison, they came to Lydia; and having seen the brethren, they exhorted them and went away.

²³ And having been let go, they came to their own [company], and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

¹² And having become clearly conscious [in himself], he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was surnamed Mark, where were many gathered together and praying. ¹³ And when he had knocked at the door of the entry, a maid came to listen, by name Rhoda; ¹⁴ and having recognised the voice of Peter, through joy did not open the entry, but running in, reported that Peter was standing before the entry. ¹⁵ And they said to her, Thou art mad. But she maintained that it was so. And they said, It is his angel. ¹⁶ But Peter continued knocking: and having opened, they saw him and were astonished. ¹⁷ And having made a sign to them with his hand to be silent, he related [to them] how the Lord had brought him out of prison; and he said, Report these things to James and to the brethren. And he went out and went to another place.

²² establishing the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to abide in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.

¹⁴ And a certain woman, by name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God, heard; whose heart the Lord opened to attend to the things spoken by Paul.

³ Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassions, and God of all encouragement; ⁴ who encourages us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to encourage those who are in any tribulation whatever, through the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged of God. ⁵ Because, even as the sufferings of the Christ abound towards us, so through the Christ does our encouragement also abound. ⁶ But whether we are in tribulation, [it is] for your encouragement and salvation, wrought in the endurance of the same sufferings which *we* also suffer, ⁷ (and our hope for you [is] sure;) or whether we are encouraged, [it is] for your encouragement and salvation: knowing that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also of the encouragement.

⁸ every way afflicted, but not straitened; seeing no apparent issue, but our way not entirely shut up; ⁹ persecuted, but not abandoned; cast down, but not destroyed; ¹⁰ always bearing about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our body; ¹¹ for we who live are always delivered unto death on account of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh; ¹² so that death works in us, but life in you.

¹⁶ Wherefore we faint not; but if indeed our outward man is consumed, yet the inward is renewed day by day. ¹⁷ For our momentary [and] light affliction works for us in surpassing measure an eternal weight of glory; ¹⁸ while we look not at the things that are seen, but at the things that are not seen; for the things that are seen [are] for a time, but those that are not seen eternal.

² and sent Timotheus, our brother and fellow-workman under God in the glad tidings of Christ, to confirm you and encourage [you] concerning your faith, ³ that no one might be moved by these afflictions. (For yourselves know that we are set for this;
