⁹ For to this end also I have written, that I might know, by putting you to the test, if as to everything ye are obedient.

⁴ Then said Jehovah to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the daily need on its day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

² And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.

¹⁶ who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

³ -- thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams; for Jehovah your God proveth you, to know whether ye love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

¹² So then, if also I wrote to you, [it was] not for the sake of him that injured, nor for the sake of him that was injured, but for the sake of our diligent zeal for you being manifested to you before God. ¹³ For this reason we have been encouraged. And we the rather rejoiced in our encouragement more abundantly by reason of the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. ¹⁴ Because if I boasted to him anything about you, I have not been put to shame; but as we have spoken to you all things in truth, so also our boasting to Titus has been [the] truth; ¹⁵ and his affections are more abundantly towards you, calling to mind the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

²⁴ Shew therefore to them, before the assemblies, the proof of your love, and of our boasting about you.

⁶ and having in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience shall have been fulfilled.

¹² So that, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much rather in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

²² But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child a father, he has served with me in the work of the glad tidings.

¹⁴ But if any one obey not our word by the letter, mark that man, and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed of himself;

²¹ Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.
