³⁶ And one of the Pharises desyred him, yt he wolde eate with him. And he wente in to the Pharises house, and sat him downe at ye table.

⁵ But they sayde: Not on the holy daye, lest there be an vproure in the people. ⁶ Now when Iesus was at Bethany in the house of Symon the leper,

³ And when he was at Bethanye in the house of Symon the leper, and sat at the table, there came a woman, which had a boxe of pure and costly Nardus oyntment. And she brake ye boxe, & poured it vpo his heade. ⁴ Then were there some, yt disdayned and sayde: Where to serueth this waist? ⁵ This oyntment might haue bene solde for more then thre hundreth pens, & bene geue to ye poore. And they grudged agaynst her. ⁶ But Iesus sayde: let her be in rest. Why trouble ye her? She hath done a good worke vpo me. ⁷ Ye haue allwaye the poore with you, and wha so euer ye wil, ye maye do the good: but me haue ye not allwaie. ⁸ She hath done what she coulde, she is come before, to anoynte my body for my buriall. ⁹ Verely I saye vnto you: Where so euer this gospell shalbe preached in all the worlde, there shal this also that she hath now done, be tolde for a remembraunce of her.

³⁴ The sonne of man is come, eateth and drynketh, & ye saye: This man is a glutton and a wyne bebber, a frende of publicans and synners.

³⁷ But whyle he yet spake, a certayne Pharise prayed him, that he wolde dyne with him. And he wente in, and sat him downe at the table.

¹ And it fortuned that he came in to the house of one of ye chefe Pharises vpo a Sabbath, to eate bred, & they watched him.

² It was yt Mary which anoynted ye LORDE wt oyntment, & dryed his fete wt hir heer, whose brother Lazarus laye sicke.) ³ The sent his sisters vnto hi, & sayde: LORDE, beholde, he who thou louest lyeth sicke. ⁴ Wha Iesus herde that, he sayde: This sicknesse is not vnto death, but for the prayse of God, yt the sonne of God maye be praysed there thorow. ⁵ Iesus loued Martha & hir sister, & Lazarus. ⁶ Now wha he herde that he was sicke, he abode two dayes in ye place where he was. ⁷ Afterwarde sayde he vnto his disciples: Let vs go agayne i to Iewry. ⁸ His disciples sayde vnto him: Master, lately wolde the Iewes haue stoned the, & wilt thou go thither agayne: ⁹ Iesus answered: Are there not twolue houres in ye daye? He yt walketh in the daye, stombleth not, for he seyeth ye light of this worlde. ¹⁰ But he that walketh in the night, stobleth: for there is no light in him. ¹¹ This he spake, & after warde sayde he vnto the: Lazarus or frende slepeth, but I go to wake him out of slepe. ¹² The sayde his disciples: LORDE, yf he slepe, he shal do well ynough ¹³ (Howbeyt Iesus spake of his death but they thought yt he had spoke of ye bodely slepe.) ¹⁴ The sayde Iesus vnto the planely: Lazarus is deed, ¹⁵ & I am glad for yor sakes, yt I was not there, that ye maye beleue. Neuertheles let vs go vnto hi. ¹⁶ The sayde Thomas (which is called Didimus) vnto ye disciples: Let vs go also, yt we maye dye wt hi.
