¹² that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.

²³ When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts;

²⁴ I plan to do so when I go to Spain. I hope to see you while passing through, and to be helped by you on my journey there, after I have enjoyed your company for a while.

³² so that by God's will I may come to you with joy, and together with you be refreshed.

¹ 1 So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you. ² For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained? ³ And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, for I had confidence in all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all.

⁴ I have great confidence in you; I have great pride in you; I am filled with comfort. With all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy. ⁵ For even when we came into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turnconflicts on the outside and fears within. ⁶ But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, ⁷ and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more.

¹³ Therefore we are comforted. And besides our own comfort, we rejoiced still more at the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

⁵ one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

¹⁷ But since we were taken away from you, brethren, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face. ¹⁸ For we wanted to come to you, I, Paul, again and againbut Satan hindered us. ¹⁹ For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming? ²⁰ For you are our glory and joy.

⁷ for this reason, brethren, in all our distress and affliction we were comforted about you through your faith; ⁸ for now we really live, if you stand firm in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanksgiving can we render to God for you in return for all the joy which we feel for your sake before our God, ¹⁰ as we night and day keep praying most earnestly that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith?

⁴ As I recall your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.

⁴ I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father.

³ For I greatly rejoiced when some of the brethren arrived and testified to the truth of your life, and how you are walking in truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

³ Beloved, although I was very eager to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
