¹⁴ Then he appointed twelve, that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach,

¹ Then he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. ³ And he said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. ⁴ Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. ⁵ And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them." ⁶ So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

¹ After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. ² And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. ³ Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. ⁵ Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.' ⁶ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. ⁷ And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they give, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. ⁸ Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. ⁹ Heal the sick there and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' ¹⁰ But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, ¹¹ 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.'

⁴⁷ and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

¹⁶ You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.

⁸ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth."

²⁴ And they prayed and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen ²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside, to go to his own place."
