¹ Then he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan. And crowds gathered to him again; and again, as his custom was, he taught them. ² The Pharisees came and in order to test him asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" ³ He answered them, "What did Moses command you?" ⁴ They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to put her away." ⁵ But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. ⁶ But from the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' ⁷ 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, ⁸ and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh. ⁹ Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." ¹⁰ In the house his disciples also asked him again about this matter. ¹¹ So he said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. ¹² And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." ¹³ And they were bringing children to him, that he might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. ¹⁴ But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the little children come to me; and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. ¹⁵ Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it." ¹⁶ And he took them in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. ¹⁷ And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" ¹⁸ And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. ¹⁹ You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'" ²⁰ And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth." ²¹ Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing; go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." ²² But he fell sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. ²³ Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" ²⁴ And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! ²⁵ It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." ²⁶ And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, "Then who can be saved?" ²⁷ Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God." ²⁸ Peter began to say to him, "See, we have left everything and followed you." ²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, ³⁰ who will not receive a hundredfold now in this timehouse and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come, eternal life. ³¹ But many who are first will be last, and the last first." ³² They were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And he took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was to happen to him. ³³ "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; ³⁴ and they will mock him, and spit on him, and scourge him, and kill him. And after three days he will rise." ³⁵ Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask." ³⁶ And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" ³⁷ And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and the other at your left, in your glory." ³⁸ But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?" ³⁹ They said to him, "We are able." So Jesus said to them, "You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized; ⁴⁰ but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." ⁴¹ And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant with James and John. ⁴² But Jesus called them to himself and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it shall not be so among you. But whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, ⁴⁴ and whoever wants to be first among you must be slave of all. ⁴⁵ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." ⁴⁶ And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside begging. ⁴⁷ And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" ⁴⁸ Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" ⁴⁹ So Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart; rise, he is calling you." ⁵⁰ And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. ⁵¹ And Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" And the blind man said to him, "Master, let me receive my sight." ⁵² Then Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

¹ Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. ² And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. ³ Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" ⁴ And he answered them, "Have you not read that he who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' ⁵ and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? ⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." ⁷ They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" ⁸ He said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. ⁹ And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." ¹⁰ The disciples said to him, "If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry." ¹¹ But he said to them, "Not all men can accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given. ¹² For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it."

¹³ Then he went out again beside the sea; and all the crowd came to him, and he taught them.

² Then he taught them many things by parables, and said to them in his teaching:

⁶ And he marveled because of their unbelief. Then he went around the villages teaching.

³⁴ When Jesus went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.

⁴⁰ He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing at first, and there he stayed.

⁷ Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again."

²⁰ Jesus answered him, "I have spoken openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and I have said nothing in secret.

³¹ "It has also been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' ³² But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to become an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

³⁴ But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons."

¹² Then the disciples came and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?"

¹ Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

³ Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?"

³⁵ And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him.

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor do you allow those who would enter to go in.

¹¹ The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, to test him.

¹⁵ And he cautioned them, saying, "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."

³⁰ And the Pharisees and their scribes complained against his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"

⁷ The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him.

³⁰ But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)

³⁹ But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.

⁵³ As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things, ⁵⁴ lying in wait for him, to catch at something he might say.

¹⁴ The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him.

³² The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to arrest him.

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?

⁶ They said this to test him, that they might have something of which to accuse him. But Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What are we to do? For this man performs many signs.

⁵⁷ Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, so that they might arrest him.

¹⁰ To the married I give charge, not I but the Lord, that the wife should not separate from her husband ¹¹ (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife.

⁹ We must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents.

²⁵ And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

³⁹ You search the Scriptures, because in them you think that you have eternal life; and these are they that testify of me.

²¹ Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the law?

¹⁹ Then Josnt her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to put her to public shame, was resolved to divorce her quietly.

⁷ They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" ⁸ He said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. You are doing just as your fathers did.

⁷ Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you will hear his voice, ⁸ do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, ⁹ where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. ¹⁰ Therefore I was angry with that generation, and said, 'They always go astray in their hearts; and they have not known my ways.'

¹⁹ For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be.

⁴ and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation."

⁵ and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? ⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

³¹ "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."

¹⁶ Or do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one flesh."

²⁸ So husbands ought also to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

¹ Do you not know, brethrenfor I am speaking to those who know the lawthat the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives? ² For a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of her husband. ³ So then, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and though she marries another man, she is not an adulteress.

¹⁰ And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

²⁸ And when he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?"

³³ And they came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you discussing on the road?"

⁹ And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

¹⁸ Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

³ So then, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and though she marries another man, she is not an adulteress. ⁴ The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for God will judge the immoral and adulterous.

¹¹ (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife.

¹³ If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she must not divorce him.

¹³ Then little children were brought to him that he might put his hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. ¹⁴ But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." ¹⁵ And he laid his hands on them and went from there.

³⁸ John said to him, "Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name and we forbade him, because he was not one of us."

⁴⁸ Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"

¹⁵ Now they were also bringing infants to him that he might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. ¹⁶ But Jesus called them to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. ¹⁷ Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it."

⁴ Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁰ "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

¹⁴ But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven."

⁵ And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

³³ But when he had turned around and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."

⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" ⁵⁵ But he turned and rebuked them, ⁵⁶ and they went on to another village.

¹⁵ Now they were also bringing infants to him that he might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. ¹⁶ But Jesus called them to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.

³⁹ For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the Lord our God will call to himself."

²⁵ You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'

¹⁶ If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the whole lump is holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

²⁸ As regards the gospel they are enemies of God, for your sake; but as regards election they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.

¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.

²⁰ Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; be infants in evil, but in thinking be mature.

²⁶ Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

⁵ For I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and I am sure is in you as well.

¹⁵ and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

² Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

⁵ And no lie was found in their mouth; they are blameless.

³ and he said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁷ Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it."

³ Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." ⁴ Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" ⁵ Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. ⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

³⁶ And he took a little child, and put him in the midst of them. And taking him in his arms, he said to them,

²⁸ he took him up in his arms and blessed God, and said: ²⁹ "Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; ³⁰ for my eyes have seen your salvation ³¹ which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, ³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel." ³³ And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. ³⁴ Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that will be spoken against

⁵⁰ Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them. ⁵¹ While he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.

¹⁵ When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." ¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." ¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.

¹⁴ And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and kneeling before him said,

¹⁶ Now behold, one came up and said to him, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to have eternal life?" ¹⁷ And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments." ¹⁸ He said to him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, ¹⁹ honor your father and mother, and, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" ²⁰ The young man said to him, "All these I have kept. What do I still lack?" ²¹ Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." ²² But when the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. ²³ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. ²⁴ Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." ²⁵ When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" ²⁶ But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." ²⁷ Then Peter answered him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?" ²⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. ³⁰ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

³⁴ Then the King will say to those on his right hand, 'Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

⁸ So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

⁴⁰ Then a leper came to him, imploring him, kneeling down to him and saying to him, "If you are willing, you can make me clean."

²⁵ And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again."

¹⁴ When they came, they said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and care about no man; for you do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

¹⁸ Now a certain ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" ¹⁹ So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. ²⁰ You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'" ²¹ And he said, "All these I have kept from my youth." ²² When Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." ²³ But when he heard this, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. ²⁴ Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." ²⁶ Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" ²⁷ But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God." ²⁸ Then Peter said, "Behold, we have left all and followed you." ²⁹ So he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, ³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life."

² This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him."

²⁷ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal." ²⁸ Then they said to him, "What must we do, to be doing the works of God?"

⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

² So she ran, and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." ³ Peter therefore went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. ⁴ They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.

³⁷ Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"

⁶ but get up and enter the city, and it will be told you what you must do."

³⁰ He brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

³² And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

² For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not according to knowledge. ³ For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. ⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

²⁵ And this is what he has promised useternal life.

¹⁷ And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments."

¹⁹ So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.

⁴¹ "I do not receive glory from men. ⁴² But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. ⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

¹² All have turned aside, together they have become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."

¹⁷ Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

⁸ He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

¹⁶ So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

¹⁷ "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. ¹⁸ For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will by any means pass from the Law until all is accomplished. ¹⁹ Whoever then breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. ²⁰ For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁷ And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments." ¹⁸ He said to him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, ¹⁹ honor your father and mother, and, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"

²⁸ And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he had answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the first of all?" ²⁹ Jesus answered, "The first is: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. ³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' ³¹ The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." ³² And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher; you have well said that God is one, and there is no other but he; ³³ and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." ³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no one dared to ask him any question.

²⁶ He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" ²⁷ And he answered, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind'; and 'your neighbor as yourself.'" ²⁸ And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."

²⁰ You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'"

²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

⁹ The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet," and any other commandment there may be, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

⁷ Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? ⁸ Instead, you yourselves defraud and do wrong, and you even do this to your brethren. ⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts,

¹⁴ For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

⁶ and that no man transgress and wrong his brother in this matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you.

¹¹ For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," said also, "Do not murder." If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

²⁰ The young man said to him, "All these I have kept. What do I still lack?"

²⁹ But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other menextortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.'

⁹ I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.

⁶ as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.

⁵ holding a form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid such people.

¹⁹ "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, ²⁰ but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

⁴⁴ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and then in his joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. ⁴⁵ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, ⁴⁶ who, when he had found one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

²¹ Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

³⁴ And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

²³ Then he said to them all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

⁴² but only one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

³³ Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

⁹ And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when it fails, they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.

²² When Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

⁴¹ And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it,

²⁶ If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honor.

³³ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage! I have overcome the world."

⁴⁵ and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as anyone had need.

³⁴ For there was not a needy person among them, For all who were owners of land or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of the sales ³⁵ and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. ³⁶ Thus Josnt who was called by the apostles Barnabas (which means, Son of Encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, ³⁷ sold a field which he owned, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.

¹⁷ and if children, then heirsheirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, in order that we may also be glorified with him. ¹⁸ I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us.

¹⁵ I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you the more, am I to be loved the less?

¹⁷ Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with everything to enjoy. ¹⁸ Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous and ready to share, ¹⁹ storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that life which is life indeed.

¹² Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

³⁴ For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.

¹⁰ For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point has become guilty of all of it.

⁴ to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, kept in heaven for you, ⁵ who are protected by God's power through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

⁴ But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat food sacrificed to idols and to practice sexual immorality.

²⁰ Nevertheless I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and beguiling my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.

²² Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

²² But when the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

³ When Judas, his betrayer, saw that he was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood. See to it yourselves." ²⁵ And all the people answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!" ²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

²⁰ for Herod feared John and protected him, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man. When he heard him, he was much perplexed; and yet he heard him gladly.

²⁶ And the king was exceedingly sorry; but, because of his oaths and his guests, he did not want to refuse her.

¹⁵ And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

²³ But when he heard this, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly sorrow produces death.

⁵ For of this you can be sure, that no immoral, impure, or covetous personsuch a man is an idolaterhas any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

¹⁰ for Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the worldthe lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of lifeis not of the Father but is of the world.

²³ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. ²⁴ Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." ²⁵ When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" ²⁶ But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

³² And he looked around to see who had done it.

¹⁵ Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it."

²⁴ Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!

⁵ Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

²⁶ For consider your call, brethren; not many of you were wise according to fleshly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brethren: has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him?

⁴ You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

¹¹ so there will be an entrance richly provided for you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

²⁵ When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?"

¹⁶ And he told them a parable, saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. ¹⁷ And he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?' ¹⁸ And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?' ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

²⁶ Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" ²⁷ But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."

⁶⁰ Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?"

³³ Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek me; and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I say to you.

⁵ Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any fish?" They answered him, "No."

¹⁹ My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you

¹⁷ Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with everything to enjoy.

¹ Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. ² Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days.

¹ My little children, I write this to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

⁴ You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

²¹ Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

¹⁷ You say, "I am rich; I have become wealthy, and have need of nothing"and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked,

³ And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? ⁴ Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is a plank in your own eye? ⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

²⁴ Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." ²⁵ When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?"

²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

⁵¹ Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were completely amazed,

³⁷ And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

²³ Then one said to him, "Lord, will those who are saved be few?" And he said to them,

²⁶ Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?"

³¹ They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

⁹ because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his mouth and so is saved. ¹¹ The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." ¹² For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches on all who call upon him. ¹³ For, "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

²³ Are they servants of Christ? I am a better oneI am talking like a madmanin far more labors, in far more imprisonments, with more beatings, and often in danger of death.

²⁶ But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

³⁷ For with God nothing will be impossible."

²⁷ But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."

²¹ who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

²⁵ Therefore he is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

¹⁹ He considered that God was able to raise men even from the dead; from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.

²⁰ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

²² and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.

¹⁶ And as he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the Sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "Come follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men." ¹⁸ And immediately they left their nets and followed him. ¹⁹ When he had gone a little farther from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. ²⁰ And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him.

³³ So likewise, whoever of you does not give up all that he has cannot be my disciple.

⁷ But whatever was gain to me, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. ⁸ More than that, I count everything to be loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christthe righteousness that comes from God and is by faith,

¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake.

¹⁸ You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.

³⁵ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

²⁸ You are those who have continued with me in my trials. ²⁹ And I bestow on you a kingdom, just as my Father bestowed one on me, ³⁰ so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

²³ I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

²⁴ By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, ²⁵ choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. ²⁶ He considered abuse suffered for the Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his reward.

³ I know you have persevered and have endured for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.

¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. ¹² Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well.

³² Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life."

²³ and Jesus was in the temple, walking in Solomon's Porch.

²² So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. ²³ In that day you will ask me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

⁴¹ Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they had been counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.

²⁵ But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,

³ And not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance;

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, so that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may have an abundance for every good work. ⁹ As it is written, "He has scattered abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." ¹⁰ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will multiply the harvest of your righteousness. ¹¹ You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

⁸ More than that, I count everything to be loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

¹⁶ Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,

⁶ But godliness with contentment is itself great gain.

² Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, ³ for you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. ⁴ And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

¹² Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

¹¹ Behold, we call those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

¹² Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a troublesome meddler; ¹⁶ yet if one suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but under that name let him glorify God.

¹ See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God! And so we are! The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

⁹ I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and I know the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

¹⁸ Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments to clothe you, and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen; and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.

¹¹ I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. ¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

³⁰ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

¹⁶ So the last will be first, and the first will be last."

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

²⁹ (And when they heard him, all the people, even the tax collectors, justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)

⁴⁰ And Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he said, "Teacher, say it." ⁴¹ "A certain creditor had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. ⁴² When they had nothing with which to pay him back, he freely forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?" ⁴³ Simon answered, "I suppose the one to whom he forgave more." And he said to him, "You have judged rightly." ⁴⁴ Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. ⁴⁵ You gave me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss my feet from the time I came in. ⁴⁶ You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with perfume. ⁴⁷ Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little."

³⁰ And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other menextortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.' ¹³ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

⁴⁶ Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us: 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'" ⁴⁸ When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord; and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

³⁰ What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, righteousness through faith; ³¹ but Israel, who pursued the law of righteousness, has not attained that law. ³² Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, ³³ as it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, and a rock that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."

²⁵ At that time Jesus declared, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to babes.

¹¹ And he answered them, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

¹⁷ Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, ¹⁸ "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn him to death, ¹⁹ and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day."

³⁴ But without a parable he did not speak to them. And when they were alone, he explained everything to his own disciples.

⁵¹ When the time drew near for him to be received up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.

²³ Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see.

³¹ Then he took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. ³² For he will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. ³³ They will scourge him and kill him, and on the third day he will rise again." ³⁴ But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

⁸ The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?"

¹⁶ Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him."

²¹ From that time Jesus began to show to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised on the third day.

²² Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, ²³ and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day." And they were greatly distressed.

⁶⁶ What do you think?" They answered, "He is worthy of death."

² And they bound him, and led him away and delivered him to Pilate the governor.

³¹ And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

³¹ For he was teaching his disciples and said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and when he is killed, after three days he will rise."

⁶⁴ You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" And they all condemned him as worthy of death.

¹ Very early in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

²² saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."

¹ Then the whole body of them arose and led him to Pilate. ² And they began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king."

²¹ Then he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no crime deserving death. I will therefore chastise him and release him."

⁶ He is not here, but is risen! Remember how he told you while he was still in Galilee, ⁷ 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.'"

²⁸ Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they did not enter the Praetorium themselves, so that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

¹¹ Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered me to you has the greater sin."

¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. ¹⁴ But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,

²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning him.

²² And now, behold, bound in the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there,

⁶ You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you.

³⁹ But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. ⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

⁶⁷ Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists; and others slapped him,

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around him. ²⁸ And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, ²⁹ and when they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And they bowed the knee before him and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" ³⁰ And they spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked him, they took the robe off him, put his own clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him. ³² Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name, and they compelled him to carry his cross. ³³ And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull), ³⁴ they offered him wine to drink, mingled with gall; but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. ³⁵ And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots; ³⁶ and sitting down, they kept watch over him there. ³⁷ And they put up over his head the charge written against him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁸ Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. ³⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross." ⁴¹ So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, ⁴² "He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. ⁴³ He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" ⁴⁴ And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

⁶³ The high priest tore his clothes and said, "Why do we need any more witnesses?

⁶⁵ Then some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to beat him, and to say to him, "Prophesy!" And the guards received him with slaps in the face.

¹⁷ And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and they twisted a crown of thorns and put it on him. ¹⁸ And they began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Jews!" ¹⁹ Then they struck him on the head with a reed and spat on him; and falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off him, and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

²⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Aha! You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, ³⁰ save yourself, and come down from the cross!" ³¹ So also the chief priests mocked him among themselves with the scribes, and said, "He saved others; he cannot save himself.

⁶³ Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him. ⁶⁴ They blindfolded him and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?" ⁶⁵ And they spoke many other things against him, blaspheming.

¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, dressing him in a gorgeous robe, he sent him back to Pilate.

³⁵ The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him wine vinegar, ³⁶ and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself." ³⁷ There was also an inscription written over him: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁸ One of the criminals who were hanged there hurled insults at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!" ³⁹ But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ And he said to him, "Every man sets out the good wine first; and when the guests have drunk freely, then the poor wine; but you have kept the good wine until now."

² And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they clothed him in a purple robe. ³ They came up to him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and struck him with their hands.

⁴ that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

²⁰ Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to him with her sons and, kneeling down, asked something of him. ²¹ And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." ²² But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking for. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to him, "We are able." ²³ He said to them, "You will indeed drink my cup, but to sit at my right or my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." ²⁴ And when the ten heard it, they were indignant with the two brothers. ²⁵ But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. ²⁶ Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you must be your servant. ²⁷ And whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave ²⁸ just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

³⁷ And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

² After six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,

³³ And he took Peter, James and John with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.

⁵¹ And Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" And the blind man said to him, "Master, let me receive my sight."

⁷ If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.

²⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

³¹ "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.

³⁸ For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

¹⁹ So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

²⁶ Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?"

¹¹ seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

²¹ And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." ²² But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking for. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to him, "We are able."

³⁹ And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."

³⁶ And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me; yet not what I will, but what you will."

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!

⁴² "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done."

¹¹ Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me?"

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!

³¹ But he spoke more vehemently, "If I have to die with you, I will not deny you!" And they all said the same.

³⁷ Peter said to him, "Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

¹⁴ I have given them your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

² He had James the brother of John put to death with the sword.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share for the sake of his body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions.

⁹ I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

²³ He said to them, "You will indeed drink my cup, but to sit at my right or my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father."

² as you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all those you have given him.

²⁴ Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me may be with me where I am, that they may behold my glory which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.

¹⁶ But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

²⁴ And when the ten heard it, they were indignant with the two brothers.

³³ And they came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you discussing on the road?" ³⁴ But they kept silent; for on the way they had discussed with one another who was the greatest. ³⁵ And he sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all." ³⁶ And he took a little child, and put him in the midst of them. And taking him in his arms, he said to them,

²⁴ A dispute also arose among them, which of them was to be considered the greatest.

¹⁰ Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; outdo one another in showing honor.

³ Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

⁵ Or do you think that the Scripture says without reason: "He jealously desires the Spirit which he has made to dwell in us"?

²⁵ But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.

²⁵ And he said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors.

³ not as lording it over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

²⁶ Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you must be your servant. ²⁷ And whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave

⁸ But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master, and you are all brethren. ⁹ And do not call anyone on earth your 'Father,' for you have one Father, he who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Nor are you to be called 'Teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ. ¹¹ He who is greatest among you shall be your servant. ¹² For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

³⁵ And he sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."

⁴⁸ and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great."

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

¹³ You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. ¹⁷ If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. ¹⁸ I am not speaking of you all. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'he who ate my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'

³⁶ Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now my kingship is not from here."

² Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more. ²⁰ To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews; to those under the law I became as one under the lawthough not being myself under the lawso that I might win those under the law. ²¹ To those who are without law, I became as one without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without the law. ²² To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I might by all means save some. ²³ I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

⁵ Likewise you that are younger men be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." ⁶ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.

²⁸ just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

²⁶ But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the youngest, and he who leads as one who serves. ²⁷ For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at the table? But I am among you as One who serves.

¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

²¹ For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that through his poverty you might become rich.

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for usfor it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"

⁵ Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, though he was in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to deatheven death on a cross.

⁴ He must manage his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity ⁵ (If a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of God's church?). ⁶ He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

⁸ Although he was a Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered;

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

²⁹ And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him. ³⁰ And behold, two blind men sitting by the roadside, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!" ³¹ The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be quiet; but they cried out all the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!" ³² And Jesus stopped and called them, saying, "What do you want me to do for you? " ³³ They said to him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened." ³⁴ And Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

²⁰ And a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores,

²² So the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

³⁵ As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.

⁸ The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar, said, "Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?"

² And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful to beg alms of those who entered the temple. ³ When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms.

¹ The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham:

²³ and he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the Prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

²⁷ And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David."

²³ And all the people were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"

²² And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried to him, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed."

³⁰ And behold, two blind men sitting by the roadside, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"

⁹ The crowds that went before him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"

¹¹ So the crowds said, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."

⁴² "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "The son of David." ⁴³ He said to them, "How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord', saying, ⁴⁴ 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, till I put your enemies under your feet"'? ⁴⁵ If David then calls him 'Lord,' how is he his son?"

⁷¹ And when he went out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth."

²⁴ saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you arethe Holy One of God!"

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

³⁶ And hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant. ³⁷ They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by."

⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

⁴¹ Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come from Galilee?

⁵² They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search and look, and you will find that no prophet is to rise out of Galilee."

¹⁹ Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

¹⁴ for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us."

²² And after he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; concerning whom he testified and said, 'I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.' ²³ From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised.

³ concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹⁶ "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star."

²³ But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying out after us." ²⁴ He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." ²⁵ But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me!" ²⁶ And he answered, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." ²⁷ "Yes, Lord," she said, "yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." ²⁸ Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

¹³ Then little children were brought to him that he might put his hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.

³¹ The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be quiet; but they cried out all the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"

³⁵ While he was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue's house who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?"

²⁶ Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. ²⁷ And he said to her, "Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." ²⁸ But she answered him, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." ²⁹ Then he said to her, "For this saying you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter."

⁵ And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves; ⁶ for a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; ⁷ and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything'? ⁸ I tell you, though he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs. ⁹ So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

¹ Then he told them a parable, to show that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. ² He said: "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man. ³ And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' ⁴ For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor regard man, ⁵ yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her justice, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" ⁶ And the Lord said, "Hear what the unjust judge says. ⁷ And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? ⁸ I tell you that he will bring about justice for them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

³⁹ And those who led the way rebuked him, telling him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"

¹⁸ Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and petition. And with this in view, keep alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

⁷ In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his godly fear.

⁴⁰ So Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him,

²⁸ And when she had said this, she went her way and called Mary her sister, saying, "The Teacher is here and is calling for you."

¹⁷ Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

¹ Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,

⁸ Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

⁷ "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

⁷ and greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi.'

³⁶ And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"

⁴¹ "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, I want to receive my sight." ⁴² And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." ⁴³ And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

¹⁶ Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means, Teacher).

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

²² Jesus turned, and when he saw her he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that moment.

²⁸ When he had entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord." ²⁹ Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you." ³⁰ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, "See that no one knows it."

⁵ the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

²² Then they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and he healed him, so that the mute man both spoke and saw.

²⁸ Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

¹⁴ And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.

³¹ So he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

³⁴ And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your disease."

²⁵ Then he put his hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored, and saw everything clearly.

⁵⁰ He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

² and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had come out, ³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their means.

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." ⁶ As he said this, he spat on the ground and made clay of the saliva, and anointed the man's eyes with the clay. ⁷ And he said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

³² Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.

³⁹ Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind."

¹⁸ to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'
