And what will be the sign when they are about to take place?" ⁸ And he said: "Take heed that you not are deceived. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not go after them. ⁹ And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified; for these things must first take place, but the end will not come immediately." ¹⁰ Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. ¹¹ There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. ¹² But before all this, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. And you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. ¹³ This will turn into an opportunity for you to bear testimony. ¹⁴ Therefore settle it in your minds not to meditate beforehand how you will answer; ¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. ¹⁶ You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. ¹⁷ You will be hated by all for my name's sake. ¹⁸ But not a hair of your head will perish. ¹⁹ By your endurance you will gain your lives. ²⁰ "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. ²¹ Then let those in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it. ²² For these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all that is written. ²³ Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. ²⁴ They will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ²⁵ "There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, ²⁶ men fainting from fear and foreboding of what is coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. ²⁷ Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. ²⁸ Now when these things begin to take place, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." ²⁹ He told them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. ³⁰ When they are sprouting, you see and know for yourselves that summer is already near. ³¹ So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. ³² Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all things take place. ³³ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. ³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly like a trap. ³⁵ For it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ Watch at all times, and pray always that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." ³⁷ And every day he was teaching in the temple, but at night he went out to spend the night on the mount called Olivet. ³⁸ And early in the morning all the people came to him in the temple to hear him.

⁶ But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since they are the money of blood."

¹¹ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), ¹² then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother, ¹³ thus making void the word of God through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do."

⁴¹ And Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the multitude putting money into the treasury. Many people who were rich put in large sums. ⁴² And a poor widow came, and put in two copper coins, which make a penny. ⁴³ And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, "Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. ⁴⁴ For they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in everythingall she had to live on."

²⁰ These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

⁴² And a poor widow came, and put in two copper coins, which make a penny.

⁸ She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint my body for burial. ⁹ And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her."

²⁵ But I tell you truly, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land;

²⁷ But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."

⁴⁴ Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.

²⁷ For truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,

³⁴ And opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality,

² for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. ³ For I testify that according to their ability, and even beyond their ability, they gave of their own free will,

¹² For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he does not have.

⁶ The point is this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. ⁷ Each one must give just as he has purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

⁴³ And a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years and could not be healed by anyone,

¹² And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of property that falls to me.' So he divided his living between them.

⁴⁴ And all who believed were together and had all things in common; ⁴⁵ and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as anyone had need.

And what will be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?" ⁴ And Jesus answered them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. ⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. ⁶ And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. ⁷ For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. ⁸ All these are the beginning of birth pains. ⁹ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. ¹⁰ And then many will fall away, and will betray one another, and hate one another. ¹¹ And many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. ¹² And because wickedness will increase, the love of most will grow cold. ¹³ But he who endures to the end will be saved. ¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. ¹⁵ "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination of desolation,' spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand) ¹⁶ then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. ¹⁷ Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. ¹⁸ And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. ¹⁹ But woe for those who are pregnant and for those who are nursing babies in those days! ²⁰ Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. ²¹ For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. ²² And if those days had not been shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. ²³ Then if any one says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe it. ²⁴ For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. ²⁵ See, I have told you beforehand. ²⁶ So if they say to you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. ²⁷ For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. ²⁸ Wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together. ²⁹ "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. ³⁰ Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. ³¹ And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. ³² "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. ³³ So also, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. ³⁴ Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place. ³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. ³⁶ "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. ³⁷ But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. ³⁸ For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, ³⁹ and they did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. ⁴⁰ Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. ⁴¹ Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and the other left. ⁴² Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. ⁴³ But know this, that if the owner of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. ⁴⁴ Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. ⁴⁵ "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? ⁴⁶ Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. ⁴⁷ Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. ⁴⁸ But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' ⁴⁹ and he then begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, ⁵⁰ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of, ⁵¹ and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

But say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. ¹² Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. ¹³ And you will be hated by all men for my name's sake. ²⁰ The Jews then said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?"

² But he answered them, "You see all these things, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down."

But the chief priests the scribes and the leaders of the people sought to destroy him, ⁴⁸ but they could not find anything they could do, for all the people hung upon his words.

¹³ They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking against this holy place, and the law; ¹⁴ for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us."

³⁶ For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. ³⁷ After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered.

⁹ Now there was a man named Simon, who had formerly practiced magic in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, ¹⁰ and they all, from the least to the greatest, gave attention to him, saying, "This man is what is called the Great Power of God."

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their deeds.

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

³ Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,

⁹ The coming of the lawless one by the activity of Satan will be with all power and with pretended signs and wonders, ¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ For this reason God sends upon them a strong delusion so that they will believe what is false,

¹³ while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

⁷ For many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.

³ Blessed is he who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it; for the time is near.

For truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. ²⁴ "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. ²⁵ It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!

⁶ And the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.

³⁴ Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, ³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly, I say to you, all this will come upon this generation.

⁹ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. ¹⁰ And then many will fall away, and will betray one another, and hate one another.

⁹ But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them. ¹⁰ And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. ¹¹ And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand what you are to say. But say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. ¹² Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. ¹³ And you will be hated by all men for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,' ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

² They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. ³ And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me.

³ And they seized them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening. ⁴ But many of those who heard the message believed; and the number of the men came to about five thousand. ⁵ On the next day, their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; ⁶ and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. ⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they began to inquire, "By what power or by what name did you do this?"

¹⁷ But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and they were filled with jealousy. ¹⁸ They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. ¹⁹ But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, and brought them out, and said,

⁴⁰ So they took his advice, and they called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

¹² They stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came on him and seized him, and brought him before the council. ¹³ They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking against this holy place, and the law; ¹⁴ for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us." ¹⁵ And fixing their gaze on him, all who were sitting in the Council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

⁵⁷ But they cried out with a loud voice, and covered their ears and rushed together upon him with. ⁵⁸ Then they cast him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. ⁵⁹ And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." ⁶⁰ Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

³ But Saul began ravaging the church, and, entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.

⁴ And he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"

¹ Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to persecute them. ² He had James the brother of John put to death with the sword. ³ When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. ⁴ When he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people.

²² The crowd joined against them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and ordered them to be beaten with rods. ²³ And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to guard them securely. ²⁴ Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. ²⁵ But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, ²⁶ and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were unfastened.

³⁰ Then all the city was aroused, and the people rushed together, and taking hold of Paul they dragged him out of the temple, and immediately the gates were shut. ³¹ While they were trying to kill him, a report came up to the commander of the Roman cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion.

³⁰ But on the next day, wishing to know for certain why he had been accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the Council to assemble, and brought Paul down and set him before them.

¹ After five days the high priest Ananias came down with some elders, with an attorney named Tertullus, and they brought their charges against Paul before the governor. ² And when Paul was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying to Felix: "Since through you we have enjoyed much peace, and since by your provision, reforms are introduced on behalf of this nation, ³ we acknowledge this in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all gratitude. ⁴ But, that I may not weary you further, I beg you in your kindness to hear us briefly. ⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. ⁶ He even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him. ⁷ (...)⁸ By examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges of which we accuse him." ⁹ The Jews also joined in the attack, asserting that these things were so.

¹ Festus then, three days after arriving in the province, went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea. ² And the chief priests and the principal men of the Jews brought charges against Paul; and they urged him,

¹¹ If, then, I am a wrongdoer and have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die; but if none of the charges brought against me is true, no one can hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar." ¹² Then when Festus had conferred with his council, he answered, "You have appealed to Caesar, to Caesar you shall go."

²² Then Agrippa said to Festus, "I also would like to hear the man myself." "Tomorrow," he said, "you shall hear him." ²³ So on the next day Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the audience room with the high ranking officers and the prominent men of the city. At the command of Festus, Paul was brought in. ²⁴ Festus said, "King Agrippa and all who are present with us, you see this man about whom the whole Jewish people petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, shouting that he ought not to live any longer. ²⁵ But I found that he had done nothing deserving of death; and as he himself appealed to the emperor, I decided to send him.

² "I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews, ³ because you are especially familiar with all customs and controversies of the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently. ⁴ So then, all the Jews know my manner of life from my youth up, which from the beginning was spent among my own nation and at Jerusalem. ⁵ They have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that I lived as a Pharisee according to the strictest sect of our religion. ⁶ And now I am standing trial for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers; ⁷ the promise to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly serve God night and day. And for this hope, O King, I am being accused by Jews. ⁸ Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead? ⁹ I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. ¹⁰ And that is just what I did in Jerusalem; I not only shut up many of the saints in prison, by authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them. ¹¹ And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being furiously enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to all men, ¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last.

¹³ Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the supreme authority,

¹² Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful even until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹² Now I want you to know, brethren, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel,

²⁸ in no way frightened by your opponents. This is a sign of destruction to them, but of salvation for you and that too, from God.

³ so that no one would be unsettled by these afflictions. You yourselves know that we have been destined for this. ⁴ For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; and so it came to pass, as you know.

⁵ This is evidence of God's righteous judgment, so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.

¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; ²⁰ for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

¹¹ And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand what you are to say. But say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

¹¹ Now when they bring you before the synagogues and rulers and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you are to say; ¹² for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds, so they could understand the Scriptures.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, ⁹ if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, ¹⁰ be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man stands before you healed. ¹¹ He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the chief cornerstone. ¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." ¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

³¹ And when they had prayed, the place where they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness. ³² Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common. ³³ And with great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.

¹⁰ But they could not stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.

²⁵ But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and said, "Go away for the present, and when I find time I will summon you."

²⁸ And Agrippa said to Paul, "In a short time you think to persuade me to become a Christian!"

¹⁹ and also pray for me, that in the opening of my mouth, utterance may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,

³ And pray for us as well, that God may open a door to us for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains, ⁴ so that I may make it clear, as I ought to speak.

¹⁶ At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. ¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

²¹ Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.

¹² Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.

⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

⁵⁹ And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

¹³ I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. And you hold fast to my name, and did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained;

¹¹ They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even to the death.

¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake.

²² And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

⁹ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.

¹³ And you will be hated by all men for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

²² Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it that its works are evil.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

²¹ But all this they will do to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me.

¹⁴ I have given them your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ for I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name."

⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.

¹¹ For we who live are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

¹⁰ That is why, for Christ's sake, I am content in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

²⁹ For to you it has been granted for the sake of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for his sake,

¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

³ I know you have persevered and have endured for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.

³⁰ But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

⁷ Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

³⁴ Therefore I urge you to take some food; it will give you strength, since not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you."

¹³ But he who endures to the end will be saved.

¹⁵ But the ones that fell on the good soil are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;

³ And not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance;

²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

⁴ For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through perseverance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.

³ remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁵ May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.

¹¹ And we desire each one of you to show the same diligence in realizing the full assurance of hope until the end,

¹⁵ And so Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise.

³⁶ For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

³ for you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

⁷ Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rains. ⁸ You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. ⁹ Do not grumble, brethren, against one another, that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door. ¹⁰ As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. ¹¹ Behold, we call those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

⁹ I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

² I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance. I know that you cannot bear evil men, but you have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and have found them to be false; ³ I know you have persevered and have endured for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.

¹⁰ Because you have kept my command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

¹⁰ If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the endurance and faith of the saints.

¹² Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

¹⁵ "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination of desolation,' spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand)

⁴³ For the days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, and surround you and hem you in on every side,

⁷ So they asked him, "Teacher, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when they are about to take place?"

¹⁶ then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

¹⁵ Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house.

³¹ On that day, let him who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away. And likewise let him who is in the field not turn back. ³² Remember Lot's wife. ³³ Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

⁴ Then I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins and receive of her plagues;

²² All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

¹⁹ For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be. ²⁰ And if the Lord had not shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days.

⁵ But by your hardness and your impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

⁹ then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,

⁷ But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

⁴¹ They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons."

⁴⁴ [And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."]

¹⁹ But woe for those who are pregnant and for those who are nursing babies in those days!

²⁷ But those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'"

²⁹ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us!'

¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last.

¹² He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves, but he entered the holy place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. ¹³ For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, ¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? ¹⁵ For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. ¹⁶ For where a will is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. ¹⁷ For a will is in force only when somebody has died, since it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.

²⁶ For if we sin deliberately after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone who has rejected the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much severer punishment do you think a man will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as an unclean thing the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people." ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

¹⁶ Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

¹ Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you.

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

²⁵ I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.

² But leave out the court outside the temple and do not measure it, for it has been given over to the nations; and they will trample over the holy city for forty-two months.

²⁹ "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.

²⁴ "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;

²⁶ Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

³³ And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

¹⁹ And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with fire, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. ¹¹ Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy lives and godliness, ¹² looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by fire, and the elements will melt with intense heat!

¹² I looked when he opened the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; ¹³ and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. ¹⁴ The sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it; from his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.

²⁵ the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.

²⁶ For if we sin deliberately after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries.

²⁷ For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each man according to what he has done. ²⁸ Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

³⁰ Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

³¹ "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.

⁶⁴ Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. But I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."

⁹ And after he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. ¹⁰ And as they were gazing intently into the sky while he was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. ¹¹ They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched him go into heaven."

⁷ Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all tribes of the earth will mourn because of him. Even so. Amen.

¹⁴ Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand.

⁷ And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?

¹⁹ For the creation waits with eager expectation for the revealing of the sons of God.

²³ And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

¹⁴ who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance, until the redemption of those who are God's possessionto the praise of his glory.

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

³² "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. ³³ So also, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. ³⁴ Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place. ³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

²⁸ "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. ²⁹ So also, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. ³⁰ Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place.

⁵⁷ "And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?

¹ Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. ² He answered them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather; for the sky is red.' ³ And in the morning, 'It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. ⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah." So he left them and departed.

⁵¹ Do you think that I came to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. ⁵² For from now on there will be five in one house divided: three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." ⁵⁴ He also said to the multitudes, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, "A shower is coming'; and so it happens. ⁵⁵ And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, 'There will be hot weather'; and there is. ⁵⁶ You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; but how is it you do not know how to interpret this present time? ⁵⁷ "And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?

³⁷ "For yet in a very little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.

⁹ Do not grumble, brethren, against one another, that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.

⁷ The end of all things is near; therefore be clear minded and sober for your prayers.

²⁸ Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

³⁶ Truly, I say to you, all this will come upon this generation.

³⁴ Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place.

³⁰ Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place.

¹⁸ For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will by any means pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

³¹ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

²⁵ but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word which was preached to you.

⁷ But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. ⁸ But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. ⁹ The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. ¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with fire, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. ¹¹ Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy lives and godliness, ¹² looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by fire, and the elements will melt with intense heat! ¹³ But according to his promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. ¹⁴ Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by him in peace, spotless and blameless.

²² Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

³⁹ and they did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. ⁴⁰ Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. ⁴¹ Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and the other left. ⁴² Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. ⁴³ But know this, that if the owner of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. ⁴⁴ Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. ⁴⁵ "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? ⁴⁶ Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. ⁴⁷ Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. ⁴⁸ But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' ⁴⁹ and he then begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, ⁵⁰ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of,

¹⁹ but the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

⁹ But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them.

¹⁴ And the ones that fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.

⁴¹ But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things;

⁴⁰ Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."

⁴⁵ But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, ⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he is not aware of, and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

³ Take heed to yourselves; if your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.

¹¹ And do this, knowing the hour, that now it is full time for you to wake from sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. ¹² The night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy.

¹¹ But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any one who bears the name of brother if he is an immoral person, or greedy, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindlernot even to eat with such a one.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

² For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, "Peace and safety," then destruction will come upon them suddenly as labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. ⁴ But you, brethren, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. ⁵ For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. ⁶ So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. ⁸ But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

¹⁵ See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness spring up and cause trouble, and by it many become defiled;

³ For you have spent enough time in the past doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry. ⁴ In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they abuse you; ⁵ but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. ⁶ For this reason the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they might live in the spirit according to the will of God. ⁷ The end of all things is near; therefore be clear minded and sober for your prayers.

³ Remember therefore what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. But if you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.

³⁷ And they said to him, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, "Where the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together."

²⁶ And he made from one man every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation,

¹⁵ ("Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.")

⁴² Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.

¹³ Therefore keep watch, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

⁴¹ Watch and pray, so that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

³³ Take heed, watch; for you do not know when the time will come.

³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!"

³⁷ Blessed are those servants whom the master finds watching when he comes. Truly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit at table, and will come and serve them. ³⁸ If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants. ³⁹ But know this, that if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. ⁴⁰ Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."

¹ Then he told them a parable, to show that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.

³⁵ But those who are considered worthy to attain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,

² a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave alms generously to the people and prayed to God continually.

¹³ Be on the your guard, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.

¹³ Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. ¹⁴ Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

¹⁸ Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and petition. And with this in view, keep alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, ¹⁹ and also pray for me, that in the opening of my mouth, utterance may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,

² Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

¹⁷ pray without ceasing,

⁵ This is evidence of God's righteous judgment, so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. ⁶ For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,

⁵ But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

⁸ Be sober, be alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

²⁴ Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you without blemish before the presence of his glory with great joy,

¹ Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples,

¹⁷ Then he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and he lodged there.

³⁰ And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

⁵⁵ At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.

¹² On the next day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry.

¹⁹ When evening came, they went out of the city.

³⁷ And, as he was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,

³⁹ He came out, and went to the Mount of Olives, as was his custom, and his disciples followed him.

¹ Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.

¹² Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away.

¹ But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. ² Early in the morning he came again to the temple; all the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.
