¹⁴ So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their homes, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach.

²⁴ The sins of some men are obvious, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins appear later. ²⁵ In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden.

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

²⁶ and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

⁵ to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

⁸ and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a troublesome meddler; ¹⁶ yet if one suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but under that name let him glorify God.
