²⁰ When he saw Amalek, he took up his discourse and said:First of the nations was Amalek, yet his hereafter will lead unto perishing.

⁸ Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

¹⁴ Then Yahweh said to Moses: Write this as a reminder in a scroll, and put it in the ears of Joshua that I shall wipe out, yea wipe out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens.

¹⁶ and said: For a hand is against the throne of Yah; Yahweh has a war with Amalek from generation to generation!

³ And it has been, if Israel has sowed, that Midian has come up, and Amalek, and the sons of the east, yea, they have come up against him,

⁴⁸ And he makes a force, and smites Amalek, and delivers Israel out of the hand of its spoiler.

³ Now, go, and you have smitten Amalek, and devoted all that it has, and you have no pity on it, and have put to death from man unto woman, from infant unto suckling, from ox unto sheep, from camel unto ass.. ⁴ And Saul summons the people, and inspects them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand [are] men of Judah. ⁵ And Saul comes in unto a city of Amalek, and lays wait in a valley;" ⁶ and Saul said unto the Kenite, `Go, turn aside, go down from the midst of Amalek, lest I consume you with it, and you did kindness with all the sons of Israel, in their going up out of Egypt;' and the Kenite turns aside from the midst of Amalek. ⁷ And Saul smites Amalek from Havilah--your going in to Shur, which [is] on the front of Egypt, ⁸ and he catches Agag king of Amalek alive, and all the people he has devoted by the mouth of the sword;"

⁸ and David goes up and his men, and they push unto the Geshurite, and the Gerizite, and the Amalekite, (for they are inhabitants of the land from of old), as you come in to Shur and unto the land of Egypt, ⁹ and David has smitten the land, and does not keep alive man and woman, and has taken sheep, and oxen, and asses, and camels, and garments, and turns back, and comes in unto Achish.

¹ And it comes to pass, in the coming in of David and his men to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites have pushed unto the south, and unto Ziklag, and smite Ziklag, and burn it with fire,

¹⁷ And David smites them from the twilight even unto the evening of the morrow, and there has not escaped of them a man, except four hundred young men who have ridden on the camels, and are fled.

⁴³ and they smite the remnant of those escaped of Amalek, and dwell there unto this day.

¹ After these things king Xerxes magnified Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite; he advanced him and put his covered seat above all the other chief officials who were with him.

⁹ And Harbona, one of the eunuchs before the king, said:Moreover, behold, there is standing at Haman's house the lofty gallows of fifty cubits that Haman had prepared for Mordecai who had spoken to the good of the king. So the king commanded:Hang him on it!" ¹⁰ Then they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. And the king's fury subsided.

¹⁴ So the king ordered it to be done in this way; an edict was issued in Susa, and they hanged the ten sons of Haman.
