⁶ So Yahweh sent burning serpents among the people; they bit the people, and many people of Israel died.

¹⁴ And saying is Yahweh Elohim to the serpent, "As you do this, most cursed are you of every beast, and of all field life. On your torso shall you go, and soil shall you eat all the days of your lives. ¹⁵ And enmity am I setting between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He shall hurt your head and you shall hurt his heel.

¹⁵ Who was causing you to go through the great and fear-inspiring wilderness with burning serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground in which there is no water, Who was bringing forth for you water from the flinty rock,

²⁹ You must not rejoice, Philistia, any of you, that the club of your smiter is broken, for from the root of the serpent shall come forth a yellow viper, and its fruit, the burning flying serpent,

⁶ The load of the beasts of the south rim; in a land of distress and aridity and constraint, the parent lion and the long maned lion are there, yet no water. The puff adder and the burning serpent are making flight. They are bearing on the shoulders of donkeys their estate, and on the humps of camels their treasures, to a people who are not benefiting them for help, but for shame and for reproach."

¹⁷ For, lo, I am sending among you serpents, Vipers that have no charmer, And they have bitten you, an affirmation of Yahweh."

³ And if they are hiding in the summit of Carmel, thence will I search and take them. And if they are concealed from in front of My eyes on the floor of the sea, thence will I instruct the serpent, and it will bite them." ⁴ And if they are going into captivity before their enemies, thence will I instruct the sword, and it will kill them. And I place my eye on them for evil, and not for good."

⁹ Nor yet may we be putting the Lord on trial, according as some of them put Him on trial, and perished by serpents."
