¹⁶ and I have left of them, a few in number, from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence, so that they recount all their abominations among the nations whither they have come, and they have known that I [am] Yahweh.'"

¹⁶ And I make your seed as the soil of the land. Could a man count the soil of the land, moreover, then your seed shall be counted.

⁴⁰ If they will confess their depravity and the depravity of their fathers in their offense (when they had offended Me and, indeed, when they had gone contrary to M. ⁴¹ so that I Myself also went contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies), if then their uncircumcised heart should submit, and if then they should accept their depravity,

²⁴ hence all the nations will ask:Why did Yahweh do thus to this land? Why the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then some will answer:Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, that He had contracted with them when He brought them forth from the country of Egypt, ²⁶ for they went off and served other elohim and bowed themselves down to them, elohim whom they had neither known, nor had He apportioned for them. ²⁷ Hence the anger of Yahweh grew hot against that land so as to bring upon it all the malediction that is written in this scroll. ²⁸ So Yahweh plucked them up off their ground in anger, in fury and in great wrath, and He flung them into another country as it is this day.

⁶ `If you at all turn back--you and your sons--from after Me, and keep not My commands--My statutes, that I have set before you, and you have gone and served other elohims, and bowed yourselves to them, ⁷ then I have cut off Israel from the face of the ground that I have given to them, and the house that I have hallowed for My name I send away from My presence, and Israel has been for a simile and for a byword among all the peoples;" ⁸ as to this house, [that] is high, every one passing by it is astonished, and has hissed, and they have said, Wherefore has Yahweh done thus to this land and to this house? ⁹ and they have said, Because that they have forsaken Yahweh their Elohim, who brought out their fathers from the land of Egypt, and they lay hold on other elohims, and bow themselves to them, and serve them; therefore has Yahweh brought in upon them all this evil..

⁹ Unless Yahweh of hosts reserves for us a few survivors, as Sodom would we become, and to Gomorrah would we be likened."

¹³ Yet still a tenth remains in it, for it turns back, and it becomes consumed as a terebinth. Yet, as an oak which, when flung down, is a monument, among them, the holy seed is its monument."

¹⁹ And the remainder of the trees of his wildwood will be a number that a lad will list them.

²² For, should the people of Israel come to be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved among them. The conclusion decided shall be overflowing with righteousness,

¹³ Thus shall all become within the land:Amidst the peoples, as the after-gleaning of an olive tree, as clean-gleanings, if the vintage is finished."

²⁴ And the shameful thing has devoured The labor of our fathers from our youth, Their flock and their herd, Their sons and their daughters." ²⁵ We have lain down in our shame, and cover us does our confusion, For against Yahweh our Elohim we have sinned, We, and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, Nor have we hearkened to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim!"

²⁷ For thus said Yahweh:All the land is a desolation, but a completion I make not."

⁸ And many nations have passed by this city, And they have said, each to his neighbor, For what has Yahweh done thus to this great city? ⁹ And they have said, `Because that they have forsaken The covenant of Yahweh their Elohim, And bow themselves to other elohims, and serve them.'"

¹¹ For with you [am] I, An affirmation of Yahweh--to save you, For I make an end of all the nations Whither I have scattered you, Only, of you I do not make an end, And I have chastised you in judgment, And do not entirely acquit you."

⁸ And I have caused [some] to remain, In their being to you the escaped of the sword among nations, In your being scattered through lands." ⁹ And remembered Me have your escaped among nations, Whither they have been taken captive, Because I have been broken with their heart that is going a-whoring, That has turned aside from off Me, And with their eyes they are going a-whoring after their idols, And they have been loathsome in their own faces, For the evils that they have done--all their abominations." ¹⁰ And they have known that I [am] Yahweh, Not for nought have I spoken to do to them this evil."

²² yet, lo, there has been left in it an escape, who are brought forth, sons and daughters, lo, they are coming forth unto you, and you have seen their way, and their doings, and have been comforted concerning the evil that I have brought in against Jerusalem, all that which I have brought in against it." ²³ And they have comforted you, for you see their way and their doings, and you have known that not for nought have I done all that which I have done in her--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh.'"

³¹ And you have remembered your ways that [are] evil, And your doings that [are] not good, And have been loathsome in your own faces, For your iniquities, and for your abominations."

⁵ We sin and we are depraved, we do wickedly and revolt, we withdraw from Thy instructions and from Thy judgments." ⁶ We do not hearken to Thy servants the prophets, who speak in Thy name to our kings, our chiefs, our forefathers and to all the people of the land." ⁷ To Thee, my Lord, is righteousness, yet to us is shamefacedness as at this day:To each man of Judah, to the dwellers of Jerusalem, to all the people of Israel, the near and the far, in all the lands where Thou hast expelled them for their offense with which they offend Thee." ⁸ To Thee, Yahweh, is righteousness, yet to us is shamefacedness:To our kings, to our chiefs, to our forefathers, who sin against Thee." ⁹ Of Yahweh our Elohim are compassions and pardons; for we revolt against Him." ¹⁰ We do not hearken to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim, to go in His laws which He sets before us by the hand of His servants the prophets." ¹¹ All Israel--they trespass against Thy law to withdraw so as not to hearken to Thy voice. Hence pouring forth on us is the imprecation and the oath which is written in the law of Moses, the servant of Elohim; for we sin against Him." ¹² Hence He is setting up His words, which He speaks concerning us and concerning our judges who judge us, to bring on us this great evil which is not done under the entire heavens as it is done in Jerusalem."

⁸ Behold! the eyes of my Lord Yahweh are on the sinning kingdom, and I will exterminate it off the surface of the ground, only that I will not utterly exterminate the house of Jacob, (averring is Yahweh)." ⁹ For behold! I am instructing, and I will jerk the house of Israel to and fro, among all nations, just as grain in a sieve is jerked to and fro, yet a pouch-full shall not fall to the earth."

¹⁴ Yet what a cramped gate and narrowed way is the one leading away into life, and few are those who are finding it."

²² And, except those days were discounted, no flesh at all would be saved. Yet, because of the chosen, those days shall be discounted."

²⁷ Now Isaiah is crying over Israel, If the number of the sons of Israel should be as the sand of the sea, the residue shall be saved,

⁴ But what is that which apprises saying to him? I left for Myself seven thousand men who do not bow the knee to the image of Baal. ⁵ Thus, then, in the current era also, there has come to be a remnant according to the choice of grace."
