¹⁶ For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise again, but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.

¹⁷ A rash king shall fall into mischief, but a wise messenger shall deliver him.

³² The ungodly shall be driven away in his wickedness, but he who is secure in his own holiness is just.

¹⁴ Blessed is the man who religiously fears always, but the hard of heart shall fall into mischief. ¹⁵ A hungry lion and a thirsty wolf is he, who, being poor, rules over a poor nation. ¹⁶ A king in need of revenues is a great oppressor, but he that hates injustice shall live a long time. ¹⁷ He that becomes surety for a man charged with murder shall be in exile, and not in safety. ^(28:17A) Chasten your son, and he shall love you, and give honor to your soul: he shall not obey a sinful nation. ¹⁸ He that walks justly is assisted, but he that walks in crooked ways shall be entangled therein.

¹⁴ they who swear by the propitiation of Samaria, and who say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, Your god, O Beersheba, lives; and they shall fall, and shall not rise again.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, mine enemy; for I have fallen yet shall arise; for though I should sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light to me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against Him, until He make good my cause: He also shall maintain my right, and shall bring me out to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness. ¹⁰ And she that is my enemy shall see it, and shall clothe herself with shame, who says, Where is the Lord your God? My eyes shall look upon her: now shall she be for trampling as mire in the ways.

²³ Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And becoming eaten by worms, he died.

⁸ For we do not desire you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life. ⁹ Yes, we have had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, ¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death, and is delivering us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us,

⁸ in everything being oppressed, yet not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ persecuted, but not abandoned; cast down, but not destroyed; ¹⁰ always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, so that also the life of Jesus may be revealed in our body. ¹¹ For we who are living are always handed over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifest in our body. ¹² So then death is working in us, but life in you.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am even more: in labors far more, in beatings immeasurably, in imprisonments far more, in deaths often. ²⁴ By the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have spent in the depth of the sea. ²⁶ In journeys often, in dangers of rivers, in dangers of robbers, in dangers from my own race, in dangers from the Gentiles, in dangers in the city, in dangers in the wilderness, in dangers in the sea, in dangers among false brothers; ²⁷ in labor and hardship, in sleepless nights often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness--

³ For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, just as labor pains upon the woman that is pregnant, and they shall by no means escape.

²⁰ "Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her!" ²¹ Then a mighty angel picked up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence Babylon the great city shall be cast down, and shall by no means be found anymore.
