¹³ The sluggard makes excuses, and says, There is a lion in the road, and murderers in the streets.

³² And they brought a horror of that land which they surveyed upon the children of Israel, saying, The land which we passed by to survey it, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of extraordinary stature. ³³ And there we saw the giants; and we were as mere insects in our own sight, and so we were before them.

¹⁹ The ways of sluggards are strewn with thorns, but those of the diligent are made smooth.

¹³ A sluggard when sent on a journey says, There is a lion in the road, and there are murderers in the streets. ¹⁴ As a door turns on the hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed. ¹⁵ A sluggard having hid his hand in his bosom, will not be able to bring it up to his mouth. ¹⁶ A sluggard seems to himself wiser than one who most satisfactorily brings back a message.
