¹ A wise son makes his father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother. ² Treasures shall not profit the lawless, but righteousness shall deliver from death. ³ The Lord will not famish a righteous soul, but He will overthrow the life of the ungodly. ⁴ Poverty brings a man low, but the hands of the vigorous make rich. ^(10:4A) A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant. ⁵ A wise son is saved from heat, but a lawless son is blighted of the winds in harvest. ⁶ The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the just, but untimely grief shall cover the mouth of the ungodly. ⁷ The memory of the just is praised, but the name of the ungodly man is extinguished. ⁸ A wise man in heart will receive commandments, but he that is unguarded in his lips shall be overthrown in his perverseness. ⁹ He that walks simply, walks confidently, but he that perverts his ways shall be known. ¹⁰ He that winks with his eyes deceitfully procures griefs for men, but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker. ¹¹ There is a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man, but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly. ¹² Hatred stirs up strife, but affection covers all that do not love strife. ¹³ He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod. ¹⁴ The wise will hide discretion, but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin. ¹⁵ The wealth of rich men is a strong city, but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly. ¹⁶ The works of the righteous produce life, but the fruits of the ungodly produce sins. ¹⁷ Instruction keeps the right ways of life, but instruction unchastened goes astray. ¹⁸ Righteous lips cover enmity, but they that utter railings are most foolish. ¹⁹ By a multitude of words you shall not escape sin, but if you refrain your lips you will be prudent. ²⁰ The tongue of the just is choice silver, but the heart of the ungodly shall fail. ²¹ The lips of the righteous know sublime truths, but the foolish die in want. ²² The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches him, and grief of heart shall not be added to it. ²³ A fool does mischief in sport, but wisdom brings forth prudence for a man. ²⁴ The ungodly is engulfed in destruction, but the desire of the righteous is acceptable. ²⁵ When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes forever. ²⁶ As a sour grape is hurtful to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so iniquity hurts those that practice it. ²⁷ The fear of the Lord adds length of days, but the years of the ungodly shall be shortened. ²⁸ Joy rests long with the righteous, but the hope of the ungodly shall perish. ²⁹ The fear of the Lord is a stronghold of the saints, but ruin comes to them that work wickedness. ³⁰ The righteous shall never fail, but the ungodly shall not dwell in the earth. ³¹ The mouth of the righteous drops wisdom, but the tongue of the unjust shall perish. ³² The lips of just men drop grace, but the mouth of the ungodly is perverse.

³² And Solomon spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were five thousand.

¹ The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, who reigned in Israel:

²⁰ A wise son gladdens his father, but a foolish son sneers at his mother.

²¹ and the heart of a fool is grief to its possessor. A father rejoices not over an uninstructed son, but a wise son gladdens his mother.

²⁵ A foolish son is a cause of anger to his father, and grief to her that bore him.

¹³ A foolish son is a disgrace to his father; vows paid out of the hire of a harlot are not pure.

¹⁵ Son, if your heart is wise, you shall also gladden my heart; ¹⁶ and your lips shall converse with my lips, if they are right.

²⁴ A righteous father brings up his children well, and his soul rejoices over a wise son. ²⁵ Let your father and your mother rejoice over you, and let her that bore you be glad.

¹ These are the proverbs of Solomon, which the friends of Hezekiah king of Judea transcribed.

³ When a man loves wisdom, his father rejoices, but he that keeps harlots will waste wealth.

¹⁵ Stripes and reproofs give wisdom, but an erring child disgraces his parents.

¹⁹ And who knows whether he will be wise, or a fool? And whether he will have power over all my labor in which I labored, and in which I grew wise under the sun? This is also vanity.

⁹ And because the Preacher was wise above others, so it was that he taught men excellent knowledge, and the ear will trace out the parables.

⁶ They that trust in their strength, and boast themselves in the multitude of their wealth — ⁷ a brother does not redeem, shall a man redeem? He shall not give to God a ransom for himself, ⁸ or the price for the redemption of his soul, though he labor forever, ⁹ and live to the end, so that he should not see corruption. ¹⁰ When he shall see wise men dying, the fool and the senseless one shall perish together; and they shall leave their wealth to strangers.

²⁸ In the ways of righteousness is life, but the ways of those that remember injuries lead to death.

⁶ He that gathers treasures with a lying tongue pursues vanity on the snares of death.

² perverting the cause of the poor, violently seizing the judgment of the needy ones of My people, that the widow may be a prey to them, and the orphan a spoil. ³ And what will they do in the day of visitation? For affliction shall come to you from afar; and to whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory,

¹⁹ Their silver shall be cast forth in the streets, and their gold shall be despised: their souls shall not be satisfied, and their bellies shall not be filled; for it was the punishment of their iniquities.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my counsel please you, and atone for your sins by alms, and your iniquities by compassion on the poor; perhaps God will be longsuffering toward your trespasses.

¹⁸ And their silver and their gold shall by no means be able to rescue them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealously; for He will bring a speedy destruction on all them that inhabit the land.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." ¹⁶ Then He told a parable to them, saying: "The field of a certain rich man produced well. ¹⁷ And he reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have nowhere to gather my crops?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and I will build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my crops and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid away for many years; relax; eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?' ²¹ So is he who accumulates treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

²² And it came to pass that the beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God,

²¹ so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁹ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

¹ Listen now, you rich, weep and howl at your miseries which are coming upon you! ² Your riches have decayed, and your garments have become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have become corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You stored up treasure in the last days.

²⁰ In famine He shall deliver you from death, and in war He shall free you from the power of the sword.

⁵ But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction: ⁶ although his gifts should go up to heaven, and his sacrifice reach the clouds. ⁷ For when he shall seem to be established, then he shall utterly perish, and those that knew him shall say, Where is he? ⁸ Like a dream that has fled away, he shall not be found; and he has fled like a vision of the night.

²⁰ There is no security to his possessions; he shall not be saved by his desire. ²¹ There is nothing remaining of his provisions, therefore his goods shall not flourish. ²² But when he shall seem to be just satisfied, he shall be straitened; and all distress shall come upon him.

²⁸ Let destruction bring his house to an end; let a day of wrath come upon him.

¹⁴ You see it; for You observe trouble and wrath, to deliver them into Your hands; the poor has been left to You; You are a helper to the orphan.

¹⁹ to deliver their souls from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

⁹ Fear the Lord, all you His saints; for there is no lack to them that fear Him. ¹⁰ The rich have become poor and hungry; but they that seek the Lord diligently shall not lack any good thing. Pause.

³ Hope in the Lord, and do good; and dwell on the land, and you shall be fed with the wealth of it.

¹⁹ They shall not be ashamed in an evil time; and in days of famine they shall be satisfied.

²⁵ I was once young, indeed I am now old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread.

¹⁰ The sinner shall see and be angry, he shall gnash his teeth, and consume away; the desire of the sinner shall perish.

³² The ungodly shall be driven away in his wickedness, but he who is secure in his own holiness is just.

¹⁶ He shall dwell in a high cave of a strong rock; bread shall be given to him, and his water shall be sure.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him? And a proverb to tell against him? And they shall say, Woe to him that multiplies to himself the possessions which are not his! How long? And who heavily loads his yoke. ⁷ For suddenly there shall arise up those that bite him, and those that plot against you shall awake, and you shall be a plunder to them. ⁸ Because you have plundered many nations, all the nations that are left shall plunder you, because of the blood of men, and the sins of the land and city, and of all that dwell in it.

³⁰ But if God thus clothes the grass of the field, which exists today, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? ³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we put on?' ³² "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ³³ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

²² Then He said to His disciples, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will wear. ²³ Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. ²⁴ Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storeroom nor barn; and God feeds them. How much more are you worth than birds?

³¹ But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.

⁵ Let your way of life be without loving money, being satisfied with what you have. For He Himself has said, "By no means shall I desert you, nor in any way shall I forsake you;" ⁶ so that being confident, we may say: "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"

⁶ Go to the ant, O sluggard; and see, and emulate his ways, and become wiser than he. ⁷ For whereas he has no leader, nor anyone to compel him, and is under no master, ⁸ he prepares food for himself in the summer, and lays up abundant supplies in harvest. ^(6:8A) Or go to the bee, and learn how diligent she is, and how earnestly she is engaged in her work; ^(6:8B) whose labors kings and private men use for health, and she is desired and respected by all: ^(6:8C) though weak in body, she is advanced by honoring wisdom. ⁹ How long will you lie, O sluggard? And when will you awake out of sleep? ¹⁰ You sleep a little, and you rest a little, and you slumber a short time, and you fold your arms over your breast a little. ¹¹ Then poverty comes upon you as an evil traveler, and your need as a swift courier. ^(6:11A) But if you be diligent, your harvest shall arrive as a fountain, and poverty shall flee away as a bad courier.

²⁴ There are some who scatter their own, and make it more, and there are some also who gather, yet have less.

²⁴ The hand of chosen men shall easily obtain rule, but the deceitful shall be for a prey.

⁴ Every slothful man desires, but the hands of the active are diligent.

¹⁵ Cowardice possesses the effeminate man, and the soul of the sluggard shall hunger.

²⁴ He that unjustly hides his hands in his bosom, will not even bring them up to his mouth.

⁴ A sluggard when reproached is not ashamed; so also he who borrows grain in harvest.

¹³ Love not to speak ill, lest you be cut off: open your eyes, and be filled with bread.

³⁰ A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard. ³¹ If you let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down. ³² Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction. ³³ The sluggard says, I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across my breast. ³⁴ But if you do this, your poverty will come speedily; and your need like a swift courier.

¹⁸ By slothful neglect a building will be brought low, and by idleness of the hands the house will fall to pieces.

²⁷ Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for upon Him God the Father has set His seal."

⁵⁸ So then, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

¹¹ But we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, ¹² lest you become dull, but become imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

⁵ But also for this very reason, making every effort, provide with your faith virtue, and with virtue knowledge, ⁶ and with knowledge self-control, and with self-control perseverance, and with perseverance godliness, ⁷ and with godliness brotherly love, and with brotherly love, love. ⁸ For if these things belong to you and are increasing, it makes you neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he who lacks these things is blind, being shortsighted, having forgotten the cleansing of his past sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be even more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for by doing these things you shall by no means stumble at any time.

⁴ A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but as a worm in wood, so a bad woman destroys her husband.

² A wise servant shall have rule over foolish masters, and shall divide portions among brethren.

²⁶ He that dishonors his father, and drives away his mother, shall be disgraced and shall be exposed to reproach.

²⁵ the ants which are weak, and yet prepare their food in summer;

⁶ Seek the Lord, and when you find Him, call upon Him; and when He draws near to you, ⁷ let the ungodly leave his ways, and the transgressor his counsels; and let him return to the Lord, and he shall find mercy; for He shall abundantly pardon your sins.

² and all these blessings shall come upon you, and shall find you. If you will indeed hear the voice of the Lord your God,

⁸ And the king returned from the garden; and Haman had fallen upon the bed, begging the queen. And the king said, Will you even force my wife in my house? And when Haman heard it, his countenance changed.

¹³ Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me; yea, the mouth of the widow has blessed me.

⁴² The upright shall see and rejoice; and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

¹¹ There is a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man, but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.

²⁶ May he that hoards grain leave it to the nation: but blessing be on the head of him that gives it.

²⁵ But they that reprove him shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;

²⁰ A man worthy of credit shall be much blessed, but the wicked shall not be unpunished.

¹⁹ Now we know that as many things as the law says, it speaks to those under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me, and he was not ashamed of my chain; ¹⁷ but when he arrived in Rome, he more diligently sought me out and found me. ¹⁸ May the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord in that Day--and you very well know how many ways he served in Ephesus.

³⁶ But to his son I will give the two remaining tribes, that My servant David may have an establishment continually before Me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for Myself, to put My name there.

³⁴ And I will defend this city as with a shield, for My own sake, and for the sake of My servant David.

¹⁶ And they buried him with the kings in the City of David, because he had dealt well with Israel, and with God and his house.

¹⁷ Let his memorial perish out of the earth, and his name shall be publicly cast out.

²³ He shall cause men to clap their hands against them, and shall hiss him out of his place.

⁵ You have rebuked the nations, and the ungodly one has perished; You have blotted out their name forever, even forever and ever. ⁶ The swords of the enemy have failed utterly; and you have destroyed cities: their memorial has been destroyed with a noise,

¹³ Let his children be given up to utter destruction; in one generation let his name be blotted out.

¹⁵ Let them be before the Lord continually; and let their memorial be blotted out from the earth.

⁶ For he shall not be moved forever; the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

¹⁰ And then I saw the ungodly carried into the tombs, and that out of the holy place. And they departed, and were praised in the city, because they had done thus. This also is vanity.

¹³ O Lord, the hope of Israel, let all that have left You be ashamed, let them that have revolted be written on the earth, because they have forsaken the fountain of life, the Lord.

⁹ And assuredly I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman did will also be spoken as a memorial of her."

⁴⁸ Because He looked upon the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

³⁴ Instruct me, and I will search out Your law, and will keep it with my whole heart.

⁵ For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and a man of understanding will gain direction;

⁹ Give an opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more instruction.

¹⁰ He that winks with his eyes deceitfully procures griefs for men, but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker.

¹ He that loves instruction loves sense, but he that hates reproofs is a fool.

¹³ For the sin of his lips a sinner falls into snare, but a righteous man escapes from them. ^(12:13A) He whose looks are gentle shall be pitied, but he that contends in the gates will afflict souls.

³ He that keeps his own mouth keeps his own life, but he that is hasty with his lips shall bring terror upon himself.

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent will understand their ways, but the folly of fools leads astray.

²³ With everyone who is careful there is abundance, but the pleasure-taking and indolent shall be in want.

⁶ The lips of a fool bring him into troubles, and his bold mouth calls for death. ⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow him up.

²⁴ "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock: ²⁵ and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.

¹³ Is there anyone wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his works are in meekness of wisdom.

⁴ Yea, though I walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

²¹ The harmless and upright joined themselves to me; for I waited for You, O Lord.

¹¹ But I have walked in my innocence; redeem me, and have mercy upon me. ¹² My foot stands in an even place; in the congregations will I bless You, O Lord.

¹¹ For the Lord loves mercy and truth; God will give grace and glory; the Lord will not withhold good things from them that walk in innocence.

²³ that you may go confidently in peace in all your ways, and that your foot may not stumble.

²⁰ and the hard-hearted man finds no good. A man of a changeful tongue will fall into mischief,

¹⁸ He that walks justly is assisted, but he that walks in crooked ways shall be entangled therein.

¹⁵ He that walks in righteousness, speaking rightly, hating transgression and iniquity, and shaking his hands from gifts, stopping his ears that he should not hear the judgment of blood, shutting his eyes that he should not see injustice. ¹⁶ He shall dwell in a high cave of a strong rock; bread shall be given to him, and his water shall be sure.

²⁶ Therefore do not fear them. For nothing is concealed that shall not be unveiled, and secret that shall not be made known.

¹ Now in the meantime, as an innumerable crowd had gathered together so that they were stepping on one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² For there is nothing covered that shall not be unveiled, and nothing secret that shall not be made known.

⁵ So then judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who also will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make clear the purposes of the hearts. Then each one's praise shall come from God.

¹³ And the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they did not act rightly with respect to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in Gentile fashion and not in Jewish fashion, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as Jews?

²⁵ Likewise also the good works of some are evident beforehand, and those which are otherwise cannot be hidden.

¹² What has your heart dared? Or what have your eyes aimed at,

¹⁹ Let not them that are my enemies rejoice against me without a cause; who hate me for nothing, and wink with their eyes.

¹³ And the same winks with the eye, and makes a sign with his foot, and teaches with the beckonings of his fingers.

⁸ A wise man in heart will receive commandments, but he that is unguarded in his lips shall be overthrown in his perverseness.

²¹ Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and they that rule it shall eat the fruits thereof.

¹⁰ On account of this, if I come, I will call to mind his works which he does, slandering us with evil words. And not being content with that, he does not receive the brothers, and hinders those who desire to, casting them out of the church.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous will meditate wisdom, and his tongue will speak of judgment. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; and his steps shall not slide.

²² Understanding is a fountain of life to its possessors, but the instruction of fools is evil. ²³ The heart of the wise will discern the things which proceed from his own mouth, and on his lips he will wear knowledge. ²⁴ Good words are like honeycombs, and the sweetness thereof is a healing of the soul.

⁴ A word in the heart of a man is a deep water, and a river and fountain of life spring forth.

¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow him up. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is folly, and the end of his talk mischievous madness. ¹⁴ A fool moreover multiplies words. No man knows what has been, nor what will be. Who shall tell him what will come after him?

³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things. ³⁶ But I say to you, that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned."

²⁹ Let no corrupt word proceed from your mouth, but only what is good for edification, that it may give grace to them that hear.

⁵ Even so the tongue is a small member and it boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. Thus the tongue is set among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every kind of both beasts and birds, of both reptiles and sea creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unrestrainable evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁸ A passionate man stirs up strife; but he that is slow to anger appeases even a rising one. ^(15:18A) A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels, but an ungodly man rather stirs them up.

²⁷ But the perverse bears destruction upon his own mouth: a foolish man digs up evil for himself, and treasures fire on his own lips.

⁹ He that conceals injuries seeks love, but he that hates to hide them separates friends and kindred.

²⁵ An unbelieving man judges rashly, but he that trusts in the Lord will act carefully.

²² A furious man stirs up strife, and a passionate man digs up sin.

⁴ Love is patient, love is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast, is not puffed up; ⁵ does not behave disgracefully, does not seek its own, is not provoked to anger, thinks no evil; ⁶ does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; ⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

¹ From where come wars and disputes among you? Is it not from here, from your lusts, which war in your members?

²⁰ let him know that he who turns a sinner back from the error of his way will save a soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

⁸ And above all things have fervent love for one another, because "love will cover a multitude of sins."

¹² And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, and let the locust come up on the land, and it shall devour every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees, which the hail left.

⁹ Be not as the horse and mule, which have no understanding; but you must constrain their jaws with bit and bridle, lest they should come near to you.

³² But the adulterer through lack of understanding procures destruction to his soul.

²² And he followed her, being gently led on, as that of an ox led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a deer shot in the liver with an arrow:

¹⁰ He that winks with his eyes deceitfully procures griefs for men, but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker. ¹¹ There is a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man, but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.

²¹ The lips of the righteous know sublime truths, but the foolish die in want.

³¹ The mouth of the righteous drops wisdom, but the tongue of the unjust shall perish.

²³ A bad man will by no means obey counsel, neither will he say anything seasonable, or of good report.

¹⁰ A threat breaks down the heart of a wise man, but a fool, though scourged, understands not.

²⁹ Scourges are preparing for the intemperate, and punishments likewise for fools.

³ As a whip for a horse, and a goad for a donkey, so is a rod for a simple nation.

²² Though you scourge a fool, disgracing him in the midst of the council, you will still in no way remove his folly from him.

⁴ The Lord, even God, gives me the tongue of instruction, to know when it is fit to speak a word; He has appointed for me early, He has given me an ear to hear;

²² And all were bearing witness to Him, and were marveling at the gracious words which came out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?"

¹ A man who wishes to separate from friends seeks excuses, but at all times he will be liable to reproach.

⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

¹⁵ The heart of the sensible man purchases discretion, and the ears of the wise seek understanding.

⁸ He that procures wisdom loves himself, and he that keeps wisdom shall find good.

²³ He that keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from trouble.

³⁵ A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

⁴⁴ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure having been hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it, he went and sold everything he had, and bought that field."

⁵² Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe having become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure new and old things."

⁶ Because it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ⁷ But we have this treasure in clay vessels, so that the extraordinary character of the power may be of God and not of us;

²⁴ If I made gold my treasure, and if I too trusted the precious stone; ²⁵ and if I also rejoiced when my wealth was abundant, and if I laid my hand on innumerable treasures:

⁶ They that trust in their strength, and boast themselves in the multitude of their wealth —

⁷ Behold, the man who made not God his help; but trusted in the abundance of his wealth, and strengthened himself in his vanity.

²⁰ Friends will hate poor friends, but the friends of the rich are many.

¹¹ The wealth of a rich man is a strong city, and its glory casts a broad shadow.

⁷ Everyone who hates his poor brother shall also be far from friendship. Good understanding will draw near to them that know it, and a sensible man will find it. He that does much harm perfects mischief, and he that used provoking words shall not escape.

²² Do no violence to the poor, for he is needy, neither dishonor the helpless man in the gates. ²³ For the Lord will plead his cause, and you shall deliver your soul in safety.

¹² For wisdom in its shadow is as the shadow of silver, and the excellence of the knowledge of wisdom will give life to him that has it.

²³ Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, and let not the strong man boast in his strength, and let not the rich man boast in his wealth;

¹ They meditated troubles, and wrought wickedness on their beds, and they put it in execution with the daylight; for they have not lifted up their hands to God. ² And they desired fields, and plundered orphans, and oppressed families, and spoiled a man and his house, even a man and his inheritance.

²⁴ And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus, answering again, says to them, "Children, how difficult it is for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid away for many years; relax; eat, drink, and be merry." '

¹⁷ Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to put their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who provides all things richly for us to enjoy,

¹⁸ An ungodly man performs unrighteous works, but the seed of the righteous is a reward of truth. ¹⁹ A righteous son is born for life, but the persecution of the ungodly ends in death.

³⁰ Out of the fruit of righteousness grows a tree of life, but the souls of transgressors are cut off before their time.

¹⁰ Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil counsel against themselves, saying against themselves, Let us bind the just, for he is burdensome to us; therefore shall they eat the fruits of their works. ¹¹ Woe to the transgressor! Evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands.

¹⁷ Thus every good tree produces good fruit, but a rotten tree produces evil fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot produce evil fruit, nor can a rotten tree produce good fruit.

³³ "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree rotten and its fruit rotten; for a tree is known by its fruit. ³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁷ Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for what a man sows, this also he will reap. ⁸ For he who sows to his flesh, from his own flesh will reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap everlasting life. ⁹ And while we do good, let us not lose heart, for in due season we shall reap if we do not become weary.

¹⁷ And their word will spread like gangrene; of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸ who have strayed concerning the truth, asserting that the resurrection has already occurred; and they overturn the faith of some.

¹³ But evil men and impostors shall advance worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

¹⁰ For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

¹⁶ And it came to pass when the prophet was speaking to him, that he said to him, Have I made you the king's counselor? Take heed lest you be scourged! And the prophet became silent, and said, I know that God is disposed against you to destroy you, because you have done this thing, and have not hearkened to my counsel.

²⁵ but you disdained my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs; ²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you:

³⁰ neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs.

¹ My son, forget not my laws, but let your heart keep my words: ² for length of days, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to you.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to all that lay hold of her, and she is a secure help to all that stay themselves on her, as on the Lord.

⁴ who spoke and instructed me, saying, Let our speech be fixed in your heart, keep our commandments, forget them not:

¹³ Take hold of my instruction; do not let it go, but keep it for yourself, for your life.

¹² and you shall say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs!

²³ For the commandment of the law is a lamp and a light; a way of life; reproof also and correction:

¹⁰ The instruction of the simple is known by them that pass by, but they that hate reproofs die disgracefully.

¹⁷ Incline your ear to the words of wise men; hear also my word, and apply your heart, ¹⁸ that you may know that they are good, and if you take them to heart, they shall also gladden you on your lips; ¹⁹ that your hope may be in the Lord, and He may make your way known to you.

¹ A reprover is better than a stiff-necked man, for when the latter is suddenly set on fire, there shall be no remedy.

⁶ Do not allow your mouth to lead your flesh to sin; and say not in the presence of God, It was an error; lest God be angry at your voice, and destroy the works of your hands.

²⁴ "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock: ²⁵ and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand: ²⁷ and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And its fall was great."

²⁸ But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

¹ On account of this we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape, having refused Him who warned them, how much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who warns from heaven;

⁵ But also for this very reason, making every effort, provide with your faith virtue, and with virtue knowledge, ⁶ and with knowledge self-control, and with self-control perseverance, and with perseverance godliness, ⁷ and with godliness brotherly love, and with brotherly love, love. ⁸ For if these things belong to you and are increasing, it makes you neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he who lacks these things is blind, being shortsighted, having forgotten the cleansing of his past sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be even more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for by doing these things you shall by no means stumble at any time. ¹¹ For in this way the entrance will be supplied to you richly into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

²¹ And Saul said, I will give her to him, and she shall be a stumbling block to him. Now the hand of the Philistines was against Saul. ²² And Saul charged his servants, saying, Speak privately to David, saying, Behold, the king delights in you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore, become the king's son-in-law.

²⁹ And he was yet more afraid of David.

²⁷ And he brought back Abner to Hebron, and Joab caused him to turn aside from the gate to speak to him, laying wait for him; and he stabbed him there in the loins, and he died for the blood of Asahel the brother of Joab.

⁸ And David said to Uriah, Go to your house, and wash your feet. And Uriah departed from the house of the king, and a portion of meat from the king followed him. ⁹ And Uriah slept at the door of the king with the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. ¹⁰ And they brought David word, saying, Uriah has not gone down to his house. And David said to Uriah, Have you not come from a long journey? Why have you not gone down to your house? ¹¹ And Uriah said to David, The ark and Israel and Judah dwell in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields; and shall I go into my house to eat and drink, and lie with my wife? How should I do this? As your soul lives, I will not do this thing. ¹² And David said to Uriah, Remain here today also, and tomorrow I will let you go. So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the day following. ¹³ And David called him, and he ate before him and drank, and he made him drunk. And he went out in the evening to lie upon his bed with the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. ¹⁴ And the morning came, and David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, Station Uriah in front of the most severe part of the fight, and retreat from behind him, that he may be wounded and die.

²³ And it came to pass at the end of two whole years, that they were shearing sheep for Absalom in Baal Hazor, near Ephraim. And Absalom invited all the king's sons. ²⁴ And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold, your servant has a sheep-shearing; let now the king and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go, and let us not be burdensome to you. And he pressed him; but he would not go, but blessed him. ²⁶ And Absalom said to him, And if not, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with you? ²⁷ And Absalom pressed him, and he sent with him Amnon and all the king's sons; and Absalom made a banquet like the banquet of the king. ²⁸ And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, Take notice when the heart of Amnon shall be merry with wine, and I shall say to you, Smite Amnon, and kill him: fear not; for is it not I that command you? Be courageous, and be valiant. ²⁹ And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom commanded them. And all the sons of the king rose up, and they mounted every man his mule, and fled.

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, Are you in health, my brother? And the right hand of Joab took hold of the beard of Amasa to kiss him. ¹⁰ And Amasa observed not the dagger that was in the hand of Joab. And Joab struck him with it on the loins, and his bowels were shed out upon the ground, and he did not repeat the blow, and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

⁹ For there is no truth in their mouth; their heart is vain; their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have used deceit.

² Everyone has spoken vanity to his neighbor: their lips are deceitful, they have spoken with a double heart.

³ Who has not spoken craftily with his tongue, neither has done evil to his neighbor, nor taken up a reproach against them that dwell nearest to him.

²⁰ You sat and spoke against your brother, and scandalized your mother's son.

²¹ They were scattered at the anger of His countenance, and his heart drew near to them. His words were smoother than oil, yet they are darts.

⁵ Him that secretly speaks against his neighbor, him have I driven from me; he that is proud in look and insatiable in heart — with him I have not eaten.

²⁴ A weeping enemy promises all things with his lips, but in his heart he contrives deceit. ²⁵ Though your enemy intreat you with a loud voice, consent not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ He that hides enmity frames deceit, but being easily discerned, exposes his own sins in the public assemblies.

²⁰ And having watched Him closely, they sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor. ²¹ Then they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth:

¹ For the end, A Song of David, to Jeduthun. I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue; I set a guard on my mouth, while the sinner stood in my presence.

²⁷ He that forbears to utter a hard word is discreet, and a patient man is wise. ²⁸ Wisdom shall be imputed to a fool who asks after wisdom, and he who holds his peace shall seem to be sensible.

³ For through the multitude of trial a dream comes; and a fool's voice is with a multitude of words.

¹⁹ So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

² For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a mature man, able also to bridle the whole body.

^{5 (6:6)} And the Lord God, having seen that the wicked actions of men were multiplied upon the earth, and that everyone in his heart was intently brooding over evil continually,

²¹ And the Lord God smelled an aroma of sweetness, and the Lord God having considered, said, I will never again curse the earth, because of the works of men, because the imagination of man is intently bent upon evil things from his youth, I will never again smite all living flesh as I have done.

¹⁹ It is better to have my fruit than to have gold and precious stones; and my produce is better than choice silver.

¹⁸ Some wound as they speak, like swords, but the tongues of the wise heal.

⁴ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, and he that keeps it shall be filled with understanding.

¹³ Righteous lips are acceptable to a king, and he loves right words.

⁷ so he eats and drinks as if anyone should swallow a hair, and do not bring him in to yourself, nor eat your morsel with him;

¹¹ As a golden apple in a necklace of sardius, so is it to speak a wise word. ¹² In an earring of gold a precious sardius is also set; so is a wise word to an obedient ear.

⁹ The heart is deep beyond all things, and it constitutes the man, and who can know him?

³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

³ For seeing you have instructed many, and have strengthened the hands of the weak one, ⁴ and have supported the failing with words, and have imparted courage to feeble knees.

¹² neither shall I transgress; but I have hid His words in my bosom.

²¹ Men heard me, and gave heed, and they were silent at my counsel. ²² At my word they spoke not again, and they were very glad whenever I spoke to them.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous will meditate wisdom, and his tongue will speak of judgment.

²⁹ For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord:

³¹ Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.

²³ Such a man dies with the uninstructed, and he is cast forth from the abundance of his own substance, and has perished through folly.

¹⁶ Why has the fool wealth? For a senseless man will not be able to purchase wisdom. ^(17:16A) He that exalts his own house seeks ruin, and he that turns aside from instruction shall fall into mischief.

⁹ And because the Preacher was wise above others, so it was that he taught men excellent knowledge, and the ear will trace out the parables. ¹⁰ The Preacher sought diligently to find out acceptable words, and a correct writing, even words of truth.

¹⁵ And I will give you shepherds after My heart, and they shall certainly tend you with knowledge.

¹⁶ Consume them, and Your word shall be to me for the joy and gladness of my heart. For Your name has been called upon me, O Lord Almighty.

⁶ My people are like as if they had no knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you, that you shall not minister as priest unto Me: and as you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand, then the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed being sown beside the road.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the light, because their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works be exposed.

¹⁵ So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I care for You." He said to him, "Feed My lambs." ¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I care for You." He said to him, "Shepherd My sheep." ¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you care for Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you care for Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I care for You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

²⁸ And just as they did not approve to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do the things which are not fitting;

² shepherd the flock of God among you, overseeing not by compulsion, but rather willingly, not in fondness for dishonest gain, but rather eagerly;

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and magnify your name, and you shall be blessed.

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, and silver, and gold.

²³ that I will not take from all your goods, from a string to a sandal strap, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich.

³⁵ and the Lord has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him sheep, calves, silver, gold, male and female servants, camels, and donkeys.

¹² And Isaac sowed in that land, and he found barley in that year, and reaped one hundred fold, and the Lord blessed him.

¹⁷ Lest you should say in your heart, My strength, and the power of my own hand have worked for me this great wealth! ¹⁸ But you shall remember the Lord your God, that He gives you strength to get wealth; even that He may establish His covenant, which the Lord swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

¹⁸ But keep yourselves strictly from the accursed thing, lest you set your mind upon and take of the accursed thing, and you make the camp of the children of Israel an accursed thing, and destroy us.

¹ But the children of Israel committed a great trespass, and kept back part of the accursed thing; and Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zambri, the son of Zabdi, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing; and the Lord was very angry with the children of Israel. ² And Joshua sent men to Ai, which is by Beth Aven, saying, Spy out Ai. And the men went up and spied out Ai. ³ And they returned to Joshua, and said to him, Let not all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and take the city by siege; for they are few. ⁴ And there went up about three thousand men, and they fled from before the men of Ai. ⁵ And the men of Ai struck down about thirty-six men, and they pursued them from the gate, and destroyed them from the steep hill; and the heart of the people was alarmed and became as water. ⁶ And Joshua tore his clothes. And Joshua fell on the earth on his face before the Lord until evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they cast dust on their heads. ⁷ And Joshua said, I pray, O Lord, why has Your servant brought this people over the Jordan to deliver them to the Amorite to destroy us? If only we would had remained, and settled ourselves beyond the Jordan! ⁸ And what shall I say since Israel has turned his back before his enemy? ⁹ And when the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land hear it, they shall compass us round about and destroy us from off the land: and what will You do for Your great name? ¹⁰ And the Lord said to Joshua, Rise up; why have you fallen upon your face? ¹¹ The people have sinned, and transgressed the covenant which I made with them; they have stolen from the accursed thing, and put it into their store. ¹² And the children of Israel will not be able to stand before their enemies; they will turn their back before their enemies, for they have become an accursed thing: I will no longer be with you, unless you remove the accursed thing from yourselves. ¹³ Rise, sanctify the people, and tell them to sanctify themselves for tomorrow. Thus says the Lord God of Israel: The accursed thing is among you; you shall not be able to stand before your enemies, until you shall have removed the accursed thing from among you. ¹⁴ And you shall all be gathered together by your tribes in the morning, and it shall come to pass that the tribe which the Lord shall show, you shall bring by families; and the family which the Lord shall show, you shall bring by households; and the household which the Lord shall show you shall bring, man by man. ¹⁵ And the man who shall be pointed out shall be burned with fire, and all that he has; because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and has done wickedness in Israel. ¹⁶ And Joshua rose up early, and brought the people by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was pointed out. ¹⁷ And it was brought by their families, and the family of the Zarhites was pointed out. ¹⁸ And it was brought man by man, and Achan the son of Zabdi the son of Zerah was pointed out. ¹⁹ And Joshua said to Achan, Give glory this day to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession; and tell me what you have done, and do not hide it from me. ²⁰ And Achan answered Joshua and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel; thus and thus have I done. ²¹ I saw in the spoil an embroidered mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and one golden wedge of fifty shekels, and I desired them and took them; and behold, they are hid in my tent, and the silver is hid under them. ²² And Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent into the camp; and these things were hidden in his tent, and the silver under them. ²³ And they brought them out of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and the elders of Israel, and they laid them before the Lord. ²⁴ And Joshua took Achan the son of Zerah, and brought him to the valley of Achor, and his sons, his daughters, his calves, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all his property, and all the people with him; and he brought them to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said to Achan, Why have you destroyed us? The Lord destroy you this day! And all Israel stoned him with stones. ²⁶ And they set up over him a great heap of stones; and the Lord ceased from His fierce anger. Therefore he called the place the Valley of Achor to this day.

⁷ The Lord makes poor, and makes rich; He brings low, and lifts up. ⁸ He lifts up the poor from the earth, and raises the needy from the dunghill; to seat him with the princes of the people, and causing them to inherit the throne of glory;

¹⁹ And you shall speak to him, saying, Thus says the Lord: Forasmuch as you have slain and taken possession, therefore thus says the Lord, In every place where the swine and the dogs have licked the blood of Naboth, there shall the dogs lick your blood; and the harlots shall wash themselves in your blood.

²⁶ From where have you come, Gehazi? And Gehazi said, Your servant has not been anywhere. And Elisha said to him, Did not my heart go with you, when the man returned from his chariot to meet you? And now you have received silver, and now you have received clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants, and maidservants. ²⁷ The leprosy also of Naaman shall cleave to you, and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence leprous, like snow.

⁸ For what is the hope of the ungodly, that he holds to it? Will he indeed trust in the Lord and be saved? ⁹ Will God hear his prayer? Or when distress has come upon him, ¹⁰ has he any confidence before Him? Or will God hear him as he calls upon Him? ¹¹ Yet now I will tell you what is in the hand of the Lord: I will not lie concerning the things which are with the Almighty. ¹² Behold, you all know that you are adding vanity to vanity. ¹³ This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the possession of oppressors shall come upon them from the Almighty. ¹⁴ And if their children are many, they shall be for slaughter: and if they grow up, they shall beg. ¹⁵ And they that survive of him shall utterly perish, and no one shall pity their widows. ¹⁶ Even if he should gather silver as dust, and prepare gold as clay, ¹⁷ all these things shall the righteous gain, and the true-hearted shall possess His wealth. ¹⁸ And his house is gone like moths, and like a spider's web. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, and shall not continue: he has opened his eyes, and he is no more. ²⁰ Pains have come upon him as water, and darkness has carried him away by night. ²¹ And a burning wind shall catch him, and he shall depart, and it shall utterly drive him out of his place. ²² And God shall cast trouble upon him, and not spare: he flees desperately from out of His hand. ²³ He shall cause men to clap their hands against them, and shall hiss him out of his place.

²² For those that bless Him shall inherit the earth; and they that curse Him shall be utterly destroyed.

³⁸ And He blesses them, and they multiply exceedingly, and He diminishes not the number of their cattle.

⁷ who lifts up the poor from the earth, and raises up the needy from the dunghill; ⁸ to set him with princes, even with the princes of His people;

²¹ A portion hastily gotten at first shall not be blessed in the end.

²² An envious man makes haste to be rich, and knows not that the merciful man will have the mastery over him.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him? And a proverb to tell against him? And they shall say, Woe to him that multiplies to himself the possessions which are not his! How long? And who heavily loads his yoke. ⁷ For suddenly there shall arise up those that bite him, and those that plot against you shall awake, and you shall be a plunder to them. ⁸ Because you have plundered many nations, all the nations that are left shall plunder you, because of the blood of men, and the sins of the land and city, and of all that dwell in it. ⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evils. ¹⁰ You have devised shame to your house, you have utterly destroyed many nations, and your soul has sinned. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beetle out of the timber shall speak. ¹² Woe to him that builds a city with blood, and establishes a city by unrighteousness.

⁴ And I will bring it forth, says the Lord Almighty, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name, and it shall rest in the midst of his house, and shall consume it, and the timber of it, and the stones of it.

¹ Listen now, you rich, weep and howl at your miseries which are coming upon you! ² Your riches have decayed, and your garments have become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have become corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You stored up treasure in the last days. ⁴ Indeed, the wages of the laborers who reaped your fields, which were kept back by you, cry out, and the cries of the reapers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You lived luxuriously upon the earth and you lived riotously, you nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

¹⁴ who rejoice in evils, and delight in wicked perverseness;

⁹ The houses of transgressors will need purification, but the houses of the just are acceptable.

²¹ The ways of a foolish man are void of sense, but a wise man walks straight.

¹⁸ As those who need correction put forth fair words to men, and he that first falls in with the proposal will be overthrown; ¹⁹ so are all that lay wait for their own friends, and when they are discovered, say, I did it in jest.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart blameless, but not in the sight of your eyes: yet know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

²⁵ For the terror of which I meditated has come upon me, and that which I had feared has befallen me.

²¹ And his terror is in his ears: just when he seems to be at peace, his overthrow will come.

² You have granted him the desire of his soul, and have not withheld from him the request of his lips. Pause.

⁴ Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall grant you the desires of your heart.

¹⁹ He will perform the desire of them that fear Him: and He will hear their supplication, and save them.

⁴ I also will choose their mockeries, and will recompense their sins upon them; because I called them, and they did not hearken to Me; I spoke, and they heard not; and they did evil before Me, and chose the things in which I did not delight.

⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans; I am coming to you.

²⁴ Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery zeal being about to devour the adversaries.

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we should ask anything according to His will, He hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that He hears us, whatever we may ask, we know that we have the requests that we have requested from Him.

¹⁸ And they shall be as chaff before the wind, or as dust which the storm has taken up.

⁹ For evildoers shall be destroyed; but they that wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the land. ¹⁰ And yet a little while, and the sinner shall not be, and you shall seek for his place, and shall not find it.

⁹ Before your pots you can feel the white thorn, He shall swallow you up as living, as in His wrath.

¹⁸ Surely You have appointed judgments to them because of their crafty dealings; You have cast them down when they were lifted up. ¹⁹ How have they become desolate! Suddenly they have failed; they have perished because of their iniquity. ²⁰ As the dream of one awakening, O Lord, in Your city You will despise their image.

²⁷ yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you.

³⁰ The righteous shall never fail, but the ungodly shall not dwell in the earth.

³ A man shall not prosper by wickedness, but the roots of the righteous shall not be taken up.

⁷ When the ungodly is overthrown, he vanishes away, but the houses of the just remain.

²⁴ For they shall not plant, neither shall they sow, neither shall their root be fixed in the ground; He has blown upon them, and they have withered, and a storm shall carry them away like sticks.

¹⁸ And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I shall build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

²⁰ being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,

¹⁹ storing up for yourselves a good foundation for the future, that they may lay hold of eternal life.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His," and, "Let everyone naming the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness."

¹³ As a fall of snow in the time of harvest is good against heat, so a faithful messenger refreshes those that send him; for he helps the souls of his employers.

²⁰ As vinegar is bad for a sore, so trouble befalling the body afflicts the heart. ^(25:20A) As a moth in a garment, and a worm in wood, so the grief of a man hurts the heart.

⁶ He that sends a message by a foolish messenger procures for himself a reproach from his own ways.

⁵ who say, Depart from me, draw not near to me, for I am pure. This is the smoke of My wrath, a fire burns with it continually.

²⁶ "But his lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter.

¹¹ not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;

¹² lest you become dull, but become imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

³² His harvest shall perish before the time, and his branch shall not flourish. ³³ And let him be gathered as the unripe grape before the time, and let him fall as the blossom of the olive.

¹⁵ Will you not mark the old way, which righteous men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were seized before their time — their foundations are as an overflowing stream.

⁴ He asked life of You, and You gave him length of days forever and ever.

¹¹ Come, you children, hear me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. ¹² What man is there that desires life, loving to see good days? ¹³ Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking guile.

²³ But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; bloody and crafty men shall not live out half their days; but I will hope in You, O Lord.

¹⁶ I will satisfy him with length of days, and show him My salvation.

² for length of days, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to you.

¹⁶ For length of days and years of life are in her right hand, and in her left hand are wealth and glory. ^(3:16A) Out of her mouth proceeds righteousness, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue.

¹¹ For in this way you shall live long, and years of your life shall be added to you.

¹⁷ Be not very wicked, and be not stubborn, lest you should die before your time.

¹¹ The partridge utters her voice; she gathers eggs which she did not lay. So is a man gaining his wealth unjustly: in the midst of his days his riches shall leave him, and at his latter end he will be a fool.

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?'

¹³ Thus then shall be the end of all that forget the Lord: for the hope of the ungodly shall perish.

²⁰ But safety shall fail them, for their hope is destruction, and the eyes of the ungodly shall waste away.

⁹ Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue exalted; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

²⁴ You have guided me by Your counsel, and You have taken me to Yourself with glory. ²⁵ For whom have I in heaven but You? And what have I desired upon the earth besides You? ²⁶ My heart and my flesh have failed; but God is the strength of my heart, and God is my portion forever.

⁷ At the death of a just man his hope does not perish, but the boast of the ungodly perishes.

²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am suffering in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things, but now here he is comforted and you are suffering. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you a great gulf has been fixed, so that those who desire to cross over from here to you are not able, nor may those from there cross over to us.'

² through whom also we have had access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

¹² rejoicing in hope, enduring in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;

¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and a good hope by grace,

³ Alas! Destruction to the unrighteous, and rejection to them that do iniquity!

⁶ For the Lord knows the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

¹² There the workers of iniquity have fallen; they are cast out, and shall not be able to stand.

²⁰ For the sinners shall perish; and the enemies of the Lord at the moment of their being honored and exalted have utterly vanished like smoke.

⁷ They shall go from strength to strength; the God of gods shall be seen in Zion.

⁷ When the sinners spring up as the grass, and all the workers of iniquity have watched; it is that they may be utterly destroyed forever.

¹⁵ It is the joy of the righteous to do judgment, but a holy man is abominable with evildoers.

³¹ but they that wait on God shall renew their strength; they shall put forth new feathers like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

¹² And I will strengthen them in the Lord their God; and they shall boast in His name, says the Lord.

²² Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name we cast out demons, and in Your name we did many mighty works?' ²³ "And then I will confess to them, 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you who work iniquity!'

²⁶ Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.' ²⁷ But He will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.'

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and who disobey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, ⁹ ~ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that works evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;

¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

⁸ I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.

²⁸ For the Lord loves judgment, and will not forsake His saints; they shall be preserved forever; the blameless shall be avenged, but the seed of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed. ²⁹ But the righteous shall inherit the earth, and dwell upon it forever.

⁵ Therefore may God destroy you forever, may He pluck you up and utterly remove you from your dwelling, and your root from the land of the living. Pause.

¹ A Song of Degrees. They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion: he that dwells in Jerusalem shall never be moved.

²¹ For the upright shall dwell in the earth, and the holy shall be left behind in it. ²² The paths of the ungodly shall perish out of the earth, and transgressors shall be driven away from it.

²⁵ When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes forever.

²⁴ Son of man, those that inhabit the desolate places on the land of Israel say, Abraham was only one, and he possessed the land; and we are more numerous; to us the land is given for a possession. ²⁵ (TEXT OMITTED) ²⁶ (TEXT OMITTED)

⁹ The leaders of My people shall be cast forth from their luxurious houses; they are rejected because of their evil practices; draw near to the everlasting mountains. ¹⁰ Arise, and depart; for this is not your rest because of uncleanness: you have been utterly destroyed;

⁴¹ They said to Him, "He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other farmers, who will render to him the fruits in their seasons."

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ³⁶ Just as it is written: "For Your sake we are put to death the whole day long; we are accounted as sheep for slaughter." ³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, ³⁹ nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁸ Let the deceitful lips become dumb, which speak iniquity against the righteous with pride and scorn.

¹¹ But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone that swears by Him shall be praised; for the mouth of them that speak unjust things has been stopped.

³ What should be given to you, and what should be added to you, for your crafty tongue? ⁴ Sharpened weapons of the mighty, with coals of the desert.

¹³ He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod.

¹² to deliver you from the evil way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully.

^{11 (11:10A)} but by the mouth of ungodly men it is overthrown.

⁶ The words of ungodly men are crafty, but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

² The tongue of the wise knows what is good, but the mouth of the foolish speaks evil things.

²⁸ The hearts of the righteous meditate faithfulness, but the mouth of the ungodly answers evil things. ^(15:28A) The ways of righteous men are acceptable with the Lord, and through them even enemies become friends.

⁶ The lips of a fool bring him into troubles, and his bold mouth calls for death. ⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul. ⁸ Fear casts down the slothful, and the souls of the effeminate shall hunger.

¹⁰ The Preacher sought diligently to find out acceptable words, and a correct writing, even words of truth.

⁸ sound speech that cannot be condemned, in order that the one who is an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
