²² Blessed are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall exclude you, and shall revile you, and cast out your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

⁵ who say, Depart from me, draw not near to me, for I am pure. This is the smoke of My wrath, a fire burns with it continually.

⁵ Hear the words of the Lord, you that tremble at His word; speak, our brethren, to them that hate you and abominate you, that the name of the Lord may be glorified, and may appear their joy; but they shall be ashamed.

¹⁰ Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ "Blessed are you whenever they revile you, and they persecute you, and they say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. ¹² Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

¹⁸ And you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the nations.

²² And you will be hated by all people for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

³⁹ He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

⁹ But take heed to yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be flogged in the synagogues. You will stand before rulers and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them. ¹⁰ And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations. ¹¹ But whenever they lead you forth to deliver you over, do not worry beforehand as to what you will say, nor rack your brains. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak this; for it is not you who is speaking, but the Holy Spirit. ¹² Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and will cause them to be put to death. ¹³ And you will be hated by all on account of My name. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

¹⁵ And casting him out of the vineyard, they killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

¹⁷ And you will be hated by all people for My name's sake.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

²² These things his parents said because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone should confess that He was Christ, he would be excommunicated. ²³ On account of this his parents said, "He is of age; ask him." ²⁴ Therefore they called a second time the man who was blind, and said to him, "Give glory to God! We know that this Man is a sinner." ²⁵ He answered and said, "Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I do know: that although I was blind, now I see." ²⁶ Then they said to him again, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?" ²⁷ He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you wish to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?" ²⁸ Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

³⁴ They answered and said to him, "You were completely born in sins, and do you teach us?" And they cast him out.

⁴² Nevertheless even from among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be excommunicated;

¹⁸ "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word which I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

² They will excommunicate you; but a time is coming when everyone who kills you will think that he is offering God a service.

¹⁴ I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ For I will show him all the things that he must suffer for My name's sake."

²² Now they were listening to him until this statement, and they lifted their voice saying, "Take away such a man from the earth, for it is not fitting for him to live!"

⁵ For we have found this man to be a plague, and one causing discord among all the Jews throughout the world, and a leader of the Nazarenes sect,

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are despised! ¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are naked, and beaten, and homeless.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am even more: in labors far more, in beatings immeasurably, in imprisonments far more, in deaths often. ²⁴ By the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have spent in the depth of the sea. ²⁶ In journeys often, in dangers of rivers, in dangers of robbers, in dangers from my own race, in dangers from the Gentiles, in dangers in the city, in dangers in the wilderness, in dangers in the sea, in dangers among false brothers;

²⁸ and not being terrified in anything by your enemies, which is to them a proof of destruction, but to you of salvation, and this from God. ²⁹ For to you it has been granted for the sake of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, ³⁰ having the same struggle which you saw in me and now you hear is in me.

¹⁴ For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus, because you suffered the same things from your fellow countrymen, just as also they did by the Jews, ¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are against all men,

¹¹ persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, in Iconium, at Lystra--what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. ¹² Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

¹⁹ For this is admirable, if because of conscience toward God someone endures pain, suffering unjustly. ²⁰ For what glory is it, if when you sin and are beaten, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it, you endure, this is admirable before God.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer on account of righteousness, you are blessed. "But do not fear their threats, nor be troubled."

¹² Beloved, do not be surprised by the fiery trial among you, taking place to test you, as though some strange thing was happening to you; ¹³ but inasmuch as you partake in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, in order that also at the unveiling of His glory, you may rejoice with great happiness. ¹⁴ If you are reviled in the name of Christ, blessed are you, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On the one hand He is blasphemed, but on the other He is glorified. ¹⁵ For let not anyone of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a meddler in other people's affairs; ¹⁶ but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be put to shame, but let him glorify God in this matter.
