¹³ Now I should have lain down and been quiet, I should have slept and been at rest,

⁸ The eye of him that sees me shall not see me again: your eyes are upon me, and I am no more. ⁹ I am as a cloud that is cleared away from the sky: for if a man should go down to the grave, he shall not come up again. ¹⁰ And he shall surely not return to his own house, neither shall his place know him any more.

²¹ Why have You not forgotten my iniquity, and purged my sin? But now I shall depart to the earth, and in the morning I am no more.

²² to a land of perpetual darkness, where there is no light, neither can anyone see the life of mortals.

¹⁰ But a man that has died is utterly gone, and when a mortal has fallen, he is no more. ¹¹ For the sea wastes in length of time, and a river fails, and is dried up. ¹² And man that has lain down in death shall certainly not rise again till the heaven be dissolved, and they shall not awake from their sleep.

¹³ For if I remain, Hades is my habitation: and my bed has been made in darkness.

²⁷ which I am conscious of in myself, which my eye has seen, and not another, but all have been fulfilled to me in my bosom.

¹³ And they spend their days in wealth, and fall asleep in the rest of the grave.

²³ One shall die in his perfect strength, and wholly at ease and prosperous;

³ If a man beget a hundred children, and live many years, yea, however abundant the days of his years shall be, yet if his soul shall not be satisfied with good, and also he have no burial; I said, An untimely birth is better than he. ⁴ For he came in vanity, and departs in darkness, and his name shall be covered in darkness. ⁵ Moreover he has not seen the sun, nor known rest. There is no more rest to this one than another.

¹⁰ Whatsoever your hand shall find to do, do with all your might; for there is no work nor device nor knowledge nor wisdom in Hades, where you are going.
