¹⁶ Thus says the Lord, Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths of the Lord; and see what is the good way and walk in it, and you shall find purification for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in them.

⁷ Remember the days of old, consider the years for past ages; ask your father, and he shall relate to you, ask your elders, and they shall tell you.

⁷ Tell me, you whom my soul loves, where you tend your flock, where you cause them to rest at noon, lest I become as one that is veiled by the flocks of your companions. ⁸ If you know not yourself, you fair one among women, go forth by the footsteps of the flocks, and feed your little goats by the shepherd's tents.

⁵ And now, O house of Jacob, come, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.

²⁰ For He has given the law for a help, that they should not speak according to this word, concerning which there are no gifts to give for it.

¹² This is the rest to him that is hungry, and this is the calamity; but they would not hear.

²¹ and your ears shall hear the words of them that went after you to lead you astray, who say, This is the way, let us walk in it, whether to the right or to the left.

²⁵ Withdraw your foot from a rough way, and your throat from thirst: but she said I will strengthen myself — for she loved strangers, and went after them.

²³ but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hear My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all My ways which I shall command you, that it may be well with you.

¹² And they said, We will quit ourselves like men, for we will pursue our perverse ways, and we will perform each the lusts of his evil heart.

¹⁵ For My people have forgotten Me, they have offered incense in vain, and they fail in their ways, leaving the ancient tracks, to enter upon impassable paths;

²¹ I spoke to you on occasion of your trespass, but you said, I will not hearken. This has been your way from your youth, you have not hearkened to My voice.

¹⁶ As for the word which you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you.

⁴ Remember the law of My servant Moses, accordingly as I charged him with it in Horeb for all Israel, even the commandments and ordinances.

²⁸ Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

²⁸ "But what do you think? A man had two children. And having come to the first, he said, 'Child, go, work today in my vineyard.' ²⁹ "But he answered and said, 'I will not,' but later he regretted it and went. ³⁰ And having come to the other, he said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I am going, sir,' but he did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; but you, having seen, did not repent afterwards, that you might believe him.

²⁹ Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'

³⁹ You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about Me.

⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would have believed Me; for he wrote about Me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, "For yet a little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

¹⁷ If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

¹¹ And these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all readiness, each day examining the Scriptures to see whether these things might be so.

¹ What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? ² For if Abraham was justified by works, he has grounds for boasting, but not before God. ³ For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." ⁴ Now to him who works, the reward is not accounted according to grace but according to debt. ⁵ But to him who does not work but believes on Him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, ⁶ just as David also speaks of the blessing of the man to whom God accounts righteousness apart from works:

¹² and the father of circumcision to those not only of circumcision, but also to those following in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while in uncircumcision.

⁶ Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,

¹² lest you become dull, but become imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

² For by it the elders obtained witness.
