¹² And he went down to the king's house, into the house of the scribe. And behold, there were sitting there all the princes, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Jonathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

³ And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, in the eighth month, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam the scribe, to the house of the Lord, saying,

¹² And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achobor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,

¹⁴ So Hilkiah the priest went, and Ahikam, Achobor, Shaphan, and Asaiah, to Huldah the prophetess, the mother of Shallum, son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; and she dwelt in Jerusalem in Masena; and they spoke to her.

⁸ Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, an he reigned three months in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Nehushta, daughter of Elnathan, of Jerusalem.

²² And the king sent men to Egypt,

¹ And it came to pass in the fourth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the false prophet, the son of Azur, from Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the Lord, in the sight of the priests and all the people, saying, ² Thus says the Lord: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. ³ Yet two full years, and I will return into this place the vessels of the house of the Lord, ⁴ with Jeconiah, and the captivity of Judah; For I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. ⁵ Then Jeremiah spoke to Hananiah in the sight of all the people, and in the sight of the priests that stood in the house of the Lord, ⁶ and Jeremiah said, May the Lord indeed do thus; may He confirm your word which you prophesy, to return the vessels of the house of the Lord, and all the captivity, out of Babylon to this place. ⁷ Nevertheless hear the word of the Lord which I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people: ⁸ The prophets that were before me and before you of old, also prophesied over much country, and against great kingdoms, concerning war. ⁹ As for the prophet that has prophesied for peace, when the word has come to pass, they shall know the prophet whom the Lord has truly sent. ¹⁰ Then Hananiah took the yokes from the neck of Jeremiah in the sight of all the people, and broke them to pieces. ¹¹ And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus said the Lord: Thus will I break the yoke of the king of Babylon from the necks of all the nations. And Jeremiah went his way. ¹² And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah had broken the yokes off his neck, saying, ¹³ Go and speak to Hananiah, saying, Thus says the Lord: You have broken the yokes of wood, but I will make yokes of iron in their place. ¹⁴ For thus said the Lord: I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all the nations, that they may serve the king of Babylon. ¹⁵ And Jeremiah said to Hananiah, The Lord has not sent you; and you have caused this people to trust in unrighteousness. ¹⁶ Therefore thus said the Lord: Behold, I will cast you off from the face of the earth — this year you shall die! ¹⁷ So he died in the seventh month.

¹⁰ And Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, in the house of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, in the entrance of the new gate of the house of the Lord, and in the ears of all the people. ¹¹ And Michaiah the son of Gemariah the son of Shaphan heard all the words of the Lord, out of the book.

²⁰ And they went in to the king into the court, and gave the scroll to one to keep in the house of Elishama; and they told the king all these words. ²¹ And the king sent Jehudi to fetch the scroll. And he took it out of the house of Elishama, and Jehudi read the scroll in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood round the king.

²⁵ But Elnathan and Gemariah suggested to the king that he should burn the scroll.

¹ Now it came to pass in the seventh month that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama of the royal family came, and ten men with him, to Gedaliah to Mizpah. And they ate bread there together.
