¹ Hold a feast to Me, you islands; for the princes shall renew their strength; let them draw near and speak together; then let them declare judgment.

³ Oh, that I knew where I might find Him, and come to an end of the matter! ⁴ And I would plead my own cause, and He would fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ And I would know the remedies which He would speak to me, and I would perceive what He would tell me. ⁶ Though He should come on me in His great strength, then He would not threaten me; ⁷ for truth and reproof are from Him, and He would bring forth my judgment to an end.

³⁵ (Oh that I had a hearer!) And if I had not feared the hand of the Lord; and as to the written charge which I had against anyone, ³⁶ I would place it as a chaplet on my shoulders, and read it.

³ Gird your loins like a man, and I will ask you, and you shall answer Me!

^{7 (40:2)} Nay, gird up now your loins like a man; and I will ask you, and you shall answer Me. ^{8 (40:3)} Do not set aside My judgment: and do you think that I have dealt with you in any other way, than that you might appear to be righteous? ^{9 (40:4)} Have you an arm like the Lord's? Or can you thunder with a voice like His? ^{10 (40:5)} Assume now a lofty bearing and power; and clothe yourself with glory and honor.

¹⁰ Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

¹⁸ And come, let us reason together, says the Lord; and though your sins be as purple, I will make them white as snow; and though they be as scarlet, I will make them white as wool.

⁹ Know, you Gentiles, and be conquered; listen, even to the extremity of the earth; be conquered, after you strengthened yourselves; for even if you should again strengthen yourselves, you shall again be conquered. ¹⁰ And whatever counsel you shall take, the Lord shall bring it to nought; and whatever word you shall speak, it shall not stand among you; for God is with us.

¹¹ And it shall be in that day, that the Lord shall again show His hand, to be zealous for the remnant that is left of the people, which shall be left by the Assyrians, and that from Egypt, and from the country of Babylon, and from Ethiopia, and from the Elamites, and from the rising of the sun, and out of Arabia.

¹ Draw near, you nations; and hearken, you princes; let the earth hear, and they that are in it; the world, and the people therein.

⁶ everyone judging for his neighbor and that to assist his brother; and one will say, ⁷ The artificer has become strong, and the coppersmith that smites with the hammer, and forges also; sometimes he will say, It is a piece well joined; they have fastened them with nails; they will fix them, and they shall not be moved.

²¹ Your judgment draws near, says the Lord God; your counsel has drawn near, says the King of Jacob. ²² Let them draw near, and declare to you what things shall come to pass; or tell us what things were of old, and we will apply our understanding, and we shall know what are the last and the future things;

¹⁶ Draw near to Me, and hear these words; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; when it took place, there was I, and now the Lord, even the Lord, and His Spirit, has sent me.

¹ Hearken to Me, you islands; and attend, you Gentiles; after a long time it shall come to pass, says the Lord; from my mother's womb He has called my name;

⁸ for He that has justified me draws near. Who is he that pleads with me? Let him stand up against me at the same time; yea, who is he that pleads with me? Let him draw near to me.

¹⁰ Beat your plowshares into swords, and your sickles into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. ¹¹ Gather yourselves together, and go in, all you nations round about, and gather yourselves there; let the timid become a warrior.

¹ Hear now a word: the Lord God has said; Arise, plead with the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. ² Hear, O you mountains, the controversy of the Lord, and you valleys; even the foundations of the earth: for the Lord has a controversy with His people, and will plead with Israel. ³ O My people, what have I done to you? Or wherein have I grieved you? Or wherein have I troubled you? Answer Me.

²⁰ But the Lord is in His holy temple: let all the earth fear before Him.

¹³ Let all flesh fear before the Lord, for He has risen up from His holy clouds.
