⁶ Utterly slay old man and youth, and virgin and infants and women: but do not go near any on whom is the mark: begin at My sanctuary. So they began with the elder men who were within in the house.

²³ And the Lord shall pass by to smite the Egyptians, and shall see the blood upon the lintel, and upon the doorposts; and the Lord shall pass over the door, and shall not allow the destroyer to enter into your houses to kill you.

¹⁵ And Moses said to them, Why have you saved every female alive? ¹⁶ For they were the occasion to the children of Israel by the word of Balaam of their revolting and despising the word of the Lord, because of Peor. And there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord. ¹⁷ Now then kill every male in all the spoil, kill every woman, who has known a man intimately.

³⁴ And we took possession of all his cities at that time, and we utterly destroyed every city in succession, and their wives, and their children; we left no living prey.

⁶ We utterly destroyed them as we dealt with Sihon the king of Heshbon, so we utterly destroyed every city in order, and the women and children,

¹⁸ Behold, we shall enter into a part of the city, and you shall set a sign; you shall bind this scarlet cord in the window, by which you have let us down, and you shall bring in to yourself, into your house, your father, and your mother, and your brothers, and all the family of your father. ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass that whoever shall go outside the door of your house, his guilt shall be upon him, and we shall be freed of this your oath; and we will be responsible for all that shall be found with you in your house.

¹⁷ And the city shall be devoted, it and all things that are in it, to the Lord of hosts: only save Rahab the harlot, and everything in her house. ¹⁸ But keep yourselves strictly from the accursed thing, lest you set your mind upon and take of the accursed thing, and you make the camp of the children of Israel an accursed thing, and destroy us. ¹⁹ And all the silver, or gold, or brass, or iron, shall be holy to the Lord; it shall be carried into the treasury of the Lord. ²⁰ And the priests sounded with the trumpets. And when the people heard the trumpets, all the people shouted at once with a loud and strong shout, and all the wall fell round about, and all the people went up into the city. ²¹ And Joshua devoted it to destruction, and all things that were in the city, man and woman, young man and old, and calf and donkey, with the edge of the sword. ²² And Joshua said to the two young men who had acted as spies, Go into the house of the woman, and bring her out from there, and all that she has. ²³ And the two young men who had spied out the city entered into the house of the woman, and brought out Rahab the harlot, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and her kindred, and all that she had; and they set her outside the camp of Israel. ²⁴ And the city was burned with fire,with all the things that were in it: only of the silver, gold, brass, and iron, they gave to be brought into the treasury of the Lord. ²⁵ And Joshua saved alive Rahab the harlot, and all the house of her father, and caused her to dwell in Israel until this day, because she hid the spies which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

³ And now go, and you shall strike Amalek and Hierim and all that belongs to him, and you shall not save anything of his alive, but you shall utterly destroy him. And you shall devote him and all his to destruction, and you shall spare nothing belonging to him; and you shall slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, calf and sheep, camel and donkey.

¹⁷ And He brought the king of the Chaldeans against them, and killed their young men with the sword in the house of His sanctuary, and did not spare Zedekiah, and had no mercy upon their virgins, and they led away their old men; He delivered all things into their hands.

²⁹ For I am beginning to afflict the city which is called by My name, and you shall by no means be held guiltless: for I am calling a sword upon all that dwell upon the earth.

⁵ And He said to me, Son of man, lift up your eyes toward the north. So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, I looked from the north toward the eastern gate. ⁶ And He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what these people do? They commit great abominations here, so that I should keep away from My sanctuary; and you shall see even greater iniquities. ⁷ And He brought me to the porch of the court. ⁸ And He said to me, Son of man, dig. So I dug, and behold, there was a door. ⁹ And He said to me, Go in, and behold the iniquities which they practice here. ¹⁰ So I went in and looked, and I beheld vain abominations, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon them round about. ¹¹ And seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, and Jechoniah the son of Shaphan stood in their presence in the midst of them, and each one held his censer in his hand; and the smoke of the incense went up. ¹² And He said to me, You have seen, son of man, what the elders of the house of Israel do, each one of them in their secret chamber; because they have said, The Lord does not see; the Lord has forsaken the earth. ¹³ And He said to me, You shall see even greater iniquities than these. ¹⁴ And He brought me in to the porch of the house of the Lord that looks to the north; and behold there were women sitting there lamenting for Tammuz. ¹⁵ And He said to me, Son of man, you have seen; but you shall yet see evil practices even greater then these. ¹⁶ And He brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty men, with their back parts toward the temple of the Lord, and their faces turned the opposite way; and these were worshipping the sun.

¹ Moreover the Spirit took me up, and brought me to the front gate of the house of the Lord, that looks eastward. And behold, at the entrance of the gate were about twenty-five men; and I saw in the midst of them Jechoniah the son of Azzur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, the leaders of the people.

² You especially have I known out of all the families of the earth: therefore will I take vengeance upon you for all your sins.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not get ready or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many blows.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His," and, "Let everyone naming the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness."

¹⁷ For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who are disobedient to the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the godless and the sinner appear?"

³ saying, "Do not harm the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees, until we shall seal the servants of our God on their foreheads."

⁴ They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, nor any plant, nor any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

⁴ These are those who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever He may go. These were redeemed by Jesus from among men, firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.
