²⁸ Where do we go up? And your brethren drew away your heart, saying, It is a great nation and populous, and mightier than we; and there are cities great and walled up to heaven. Moreover we saw the sons of the giants there.

¹⁵ Then the princes of Edom, and the chiefs of the Moabites hastened; trembling took hold upon them, all the inhabitants of Canaan melted away.

²⁸ Only the nation that dwells upon it is bold, and they have very great and strong walled towns, and we saw there the children of Anak. ²⁹ And Amalek dwells in the land toward the south: and the Hittite and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwells in the hill country: and the Canaanite dwells by the sea, and by the River Jordan. ³⁰ And Caleb quieted the people from speaking before Moses, and said to him, Nay, but we will go up by all means, and will inherit it, for we shall surely prevail against them! ³¹ But the men that went up together with him said, We shall not go up! For we shall by no means be able to go up against the nation, for it is much stronger than we. ³² And they brought a horror of that land which they surveyed upon the children of Israel, saying, The land which we passed by to survey it, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of extraordinary stature. ³³ And there we saw the giants; and we were as mere insects in our own sight, and so we were before them.

¹ Hear, O Israel: You go this day across the Jordan to inherit nations greater and stronger than yourselves, cities great and walled up to heaven; ² a people great and many and tall, the sons of Anak, whom you know, and concerning whom you have heard it said, Who can stand before the children of Anak?

⁸ And the scribes shall speak further to the people, and say, What man is there that fears, and is cowardly in his heart? Let him go and return to his house, lest he make the heart of his brother fail, as his own.

⁹ and she said to them, I know that the Lord has given you the land, for the fear of you has fallen upon us.

¹¹ And when we heard it we were amazed in our heart, and there was no longer any spirit in any of us because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above, and on the earth below.

²⁴ And they said to Joshua, The Lord has delivered all the land into our power, and all the inhabitants of that land tremble because of us.

²² There was not anyone left of the Anakim by the children of Israel, only there was left of them in Gaza, and in Gath, and in Ashdod.

⁸ My brethren that went up with me turned away the heart of the people, but I applied myself to follow the Lord my God.

¹⁴ And Caleb the son of Jephunneh destroyed from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Talmai, and Ahiman.

¹⁰ And Judah went to the Canaanite who dwelt in Hebron; and Hebron came out against him; (and the name of Hebron before was Kirjath Arba:) and they killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Enac.

And there was a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands and the toes of his feet were six on each, twenty-four in number: and he also was born to Rapha. ²¹ And he defied Israel, and Jonathan son of Shimei brother of David, killed him. ²² These four were born descendants of the giants in Gath, the family of Rapha; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

⁷ Therefore every hand shall become powerless, and every soul of man shall be dismayed.

⁷ And it shall come to pass, if they shall say to you, Why do you groan? That you shall say, For the report; because it comes: and every heart shall break, and all hands shall become feeble, and all flesh and every spirit shall faint, and all thighs shall be defiled with moisture: behold, it comes, says the Lord.
