9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves the preeminence over them, does not receive us.

Matthew 10:40-42

40 "He that receives you receives Me, and he that receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41 He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."

Matthew 20:20-28

20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him with her sons, worshipping Him, and asking something from Him. 21 And He said to her, "What do you desire?" She said to Him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and one on Your left, in Your kingdom." 22 But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup which I am about to drink, or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" They said to Him, "We are able." 23 So He said to them, "You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is to those for whom it has been prepared by My Father." 24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus, having summoned them, said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, shall be your servant. 27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

Matthew 23:4-8

4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they do not desire to move them with their finger. 5 But all their works they do in order to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and they enlarge the borders of their garments. 6 They love the first couch in the suppers, and the best seats in the synagogues, 7 and greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.' 8 "But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brothers.

Are you able to drink the cup which I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" 39 They said to Him, "We are able." So Jesus said to them, "You will indeed drink the cup which I drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized you will be baptized with; 40 but to sit on My right side and on My left side is not Mine to give, but to those for whom it has been prepared." 41 And having heard this, the ten began to be indignant with James and John. 42 But Jesus, having called them to Himself, said to them, "You know that those being reputed to be ruling the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 Yet it will not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

24 And there became also a dispute among them, as to which of them seemed to be greater. 25 But He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called 'benefactors.' 26 But you shall not be thus; but let the greatest among you, let him be as the youngest, and he who leads as he who serves. 27 For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.

Titus 1:7-16

7 For a bishop must be unimpeachable, as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, 8 but hospitable, loving good, prudent, just, holy, temperate, 9 holding fast to the faithful word as he was taught, that he may be able to exhort by sound doctrine, and to convince those who oppose it. 10 For there are also many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11 whom it is necessary to shut their mouths, who overturn whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 There said a certain one of them, a prophet of their own, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons." 13 This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not giving heed to Jewish myths and to commands of men turning away from the truth. 15 All things indeed are pure to the pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience have been defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but in their works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

3 John 1:8
