⁷ For Athaliah was a transgressor, and her sons tore down the house of God; for they offered the holy things of the house of the Lord to the Baals.

¹⁵ So Jacob ate and was filled, and the beloved one kicked; he grew fat, he became thick and broad: then he forsook the God that made him, and departed from God his Savior. ¹⁶ They provoked Me to anger with strange gods; with their abominations they bitterly angered Me. ¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, and not to God; to gods whom they knew not: new and fresh gods came in, whom their fathers knew not.

⁴ And Joash said to the priests, As for all the money of the holy things that are brought into the house of the Lord, the money of valuation, as each man brings the money of valuation, all the money which any man may feel disposed to bring into the house of the Lord,

¹⁷ and they went up against Judah, and prevailed against them, and took away all the possessions which they found in the house of the king, and his sons, and his daughters; and there was no son left to him except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

²² but only troubled him in his affliction. And he departed yet again from the Lord, and King Ahaz said, ²³ I will seek after the gods of Damascus that attack me. And he said, Forasmuch as the gods of the king of Syria themselves strengthen them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, and they will help me. But they became a stumbling block to him, and to all Israel. ²⁴ And Ahaz removed the vessels of the house of the Lord, and cut them in pieces, and shut the doors of the house of the Lord, and made for himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem.

⁶ And Esther said, the adversary is Haman, this wicked man. Then Haman was troubled before the king and the queen.

⁷ The memory of the just is praised, but the name of the ungodly man is extinguished.

¹⁷ And you took your fair ornaments of My gold and of My silver, of what I gave you, and you made for yourself male images, and you committed harlotry with them. ¹⁸ And you took your embroidered garments and covered them, and you set before them My oil and My incense. ¹⁹ And you took My bread which I gave you, (yea, I fed you with fine flour and oil and honey) and set them before them for a sweet-smelling savor; yes, it was so, says the Lord. ²⁰ And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you bore, and sacrificed these to them to be destroyed. You went a-whoring as if that were little, ²¹ and slain your children, and gave them up, in offering them up as a sacrifice.

² And Belshazzar, drinking, gave orders as he tasted the wine that they should bring the gold and silver vessels, which Nebuchadnezzar his father had brought forth from the temple in Jerusalem; that the king, and his nobles, and his mistresses, and his concubines, should drink out of them. ³ So the gold and silver vessels were brought which Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple of God in Jerusalem; and the king, and his nobles, and his mistresses, and his concubines drank out of them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of iron, and of wood, and of stone.

²³ And you have exalted yourself against the Lord God of heaven; and they have brought before you the vessels of His house, and you, your nobles, your mistresses, and your concubines have drunk wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of gold, silver, brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, and which hear not, and know not: and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

⁸ And she knew not that I gave her her grain, and wine, and oil, and multiplied silver to her: but she made silver and gold images for Baal. ⁹ Therefore I will return, and take away My grain in its season, and My wine in its time; and I will take away My raiment and My linen clothes, so that she shall not cover her nakedness.

¹³ And I will recompense on her the days of Baalam, wherein she sacrificed to them, and put on her earrings, and her necklaces, and went after her lovers, and forgot Me, says the Lord.

⁸ And then the lawless one will be unveiled, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth, and will destroy by the brightness of His coming,

²⁰ But I have this against you, that you tolerate your wife Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit fornication and eat things sacrificed to idols.
