²³ And there went out some from the camp of the Philistines to the place beyond Micmash.

² And Saul chose for himself three thousand men of the men of Israel. And there were with Saul two thousand who were in Michmash, and in Mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. And he sent the rest of the people away, every man to his tent. ³ And Jonathan attacked Nasib the Philistine that dwelt in the hill; and the Philistines heard of it, and Saul sounded the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, The servants have despised us.

⁵ And the Philistines gathered together to war with Israel; and they came up against Israel with thirty thousand chariots, six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand by the seashore in multitude. And they came up, and encamped in Michmash, opposite Beth Aven southward.

¹ And when a certain day arrived, Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man that bore his armor, Come, and let us go over to the garrison of the Philistines that is on the other side; but he didn't tell his father.

⁴ And in the midst of the passage whereby Jonathan sought to pass over to the encampment of the Philistines, there was both a sharp rock on this side, and a sharp rock on the other side. The name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh. ⁵ The one way was northward to one coming to Michmash, and the other way was southward to one coming to Gibeah.

¹⁴ And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

²⁸ For he shall arrive at the city of Aiath, and shall pass on to Migron, and shall lay up his stores in Michmash.
