¹ Now the queen of Sheba heard of the name of Solomon, and the name of the Lord, and she came to test him with riddles.

⁷ And the sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah. And the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

²⁸ Ebal, Abimael, Sheba,

³ And Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were the Assurians, the Letushim, and the Leummim.

¹² And Sampson said to them, I propound you a riddle: if you will indeed tell it to me, and discover it within the seven days of the feast, I will you give thirty sheets and thirty changes of clothing. ¹³ And if you cannot tell it me, you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing. And they said to him, Propound your riddle, and we will hear it. ¹⁴ And he said to them, Out of the eater came something to eat, and out of the strong came something sweet. And they could not explain the riddle for three days.

³¹ And he was wiser than all other men; and he was wiser than Ethan the Ezrahrite, and than Heman, and than Chalcol and Darda the son of Mahol.

³⁴ And all the nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and ambassadors from all the kings of the earth, as many as heard of his wisdom. And Solomon took to himself the daughter of Pharaoh as wife, and brought her into the City of David until he had finished the house of the Lord, and his own house, and the wall of Jerusalem. Then he went up to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and took Gazer, and burnt it and the Canaanite dwelling in Mergab; and Pharaoh gave them as a dowry to his daughter the wife of Solomon; and Solomon rebuilt Gazer.

¹ Now the queen of Sheba heard of the name of Solomon, and she came to Jerusalem with a very large entourage, to test Solomon with hard questions, and she had camels bearing spices in abundance, and gold, and precious stones. And she came to Solomon, and told him all that was in her mind. ² And Solomon answered all her questions; and there passed not a word from Solomon which he told her not. ³ And the queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of Solomon, and the house which he had built, ⁴ and the food on his tables, and the sitting of his servants, and the standing of his ministers, and their garments; and his cupbearers, and their apparel; and the whole burnt offerings which he offered up in the house of the Lord; and she marveled. ⁵ And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in my land concerning your words, and concerning your wisdom. ⁶ Yet I believed not the reports until I came, and my eyes saw; and behold, the half of the abundance of your wisdom was not told me! You have exceeded the report which I heard. ⁷ Blessed are your men, blessed are these your servants, who stand before you continually, and hear your wisdom. ⁸ Blessed be the Lord your God, who took pleasure in you, to set you upon His throne for a king, to the Lord your God; forasmuch as the Lord your God loved Israel to establish them forever, therefore He has set you over them for a king, to execute judgment and justice. ⁹ And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and spices in very great abundance, and precious stones; and there were not any where else such spices as those which the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon. ¹⁰ And the servants of Solomon and the servants of Hiram brought gold to Solomon out of Ophir, and pine timber, and precious stones. ¹¹ And the king made of the pine timber steps to the house of the Lord, and to the king's house, and harps and lutes for the singers; and such were not seen before in the land of Judah. ¹² And King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all that she requested, even much more than she brought to King Solomon. And she returned to her own land.

¹⁹ Behold the ways of the Temanites, you that mark the paths of the Sabaeans.

²⁸ And He said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.

⁴ I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my riddle on the harp.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish, and the isles, shall bring presents: the kings of the Arabians and Sheba shall offer gifts.

¹⁵ And He shall live, and the gold of Arabia shall be given to Him, and men shall pray for Him continually; and all the day shall they praise Him.

⁵ For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and a man of understanding will gain direction; ⁶ and will understand a parable, and an enigma; the saying of the wise also, and riddles.

³ For if you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding; ⁴ and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures; ⁵ then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His presence come knowledge and understanding,

⁶ and the camels of Midian and Ephah shall cover you; all from Saba shall come bearing gold, and shall bring frankincense, and they shall proclaim the salvation of the Lord.

²⁰ Why do you bring Me frankincense from Sheba, and cinnamon from a land afar off? Your whole burnt offerings are not acceptable, and your sacrifices have not been pleasing to Me.

²² The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, these were your merchants, with choice spices, and precious stones; and they brought gold to your market. ²³ Haran and Canneh, these were your merchants: Assyria and Chilmad, were your merchants;

¹³ Sheba, Dedan, and Carthaginian merchants, and all their villages shall say to you, You have come for plunder to take a prey, and to get spoils; you have gathered your multitude to take silver and gold, to carry off property, to take spoils.

⁴² The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and she shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

¹¹ He answered and said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

³⁵ so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world."

³⁴ And apart from a parable He did not speak to them, however, privately to His disciples, he would explain all things.

³¹ The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and shall condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed one greater than Solomon is here.

³ And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, God was well pleased, through the foolishness of our preaching, to save those that believe.
