³⁹ And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

¹⁹ you shall honor the father and mother, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

³¹ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is not another commandment greater than these.”

²⁷ And answering, he said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind’ and ‘Your neighbor as yourself.’” ²⁸ And He said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.” ²⁹ But desiring to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” ³⁰ Jesus having taken it up, then said, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, who both having stripped him and having inflicted wounds, went away having left him half dead. ³¹ Now by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and having seen him, he passed by on the opposite side. ³² And likewise also a Levite having come to the spot, and having seen him, passed by on the opposite side. ³³ But a certain Samaritan journeying came to him, and having seen him was moved with compassion, ³⁴ and having approached Him, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him. ³⁵ And on the next day, having taken out two denarii, he gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you might expend, I will repay you on my returning.’ ³⁶ Which of these three seems to you to have been a neighbor of the one having fallen among the robbers?” ³⁷ And he said, “The one having shown compassion toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “You go and do likewise.”

⁹ For, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, in, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” ¹⁰ Love does not do evil to its neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law.

² Let each of us please the neighbor unto the good, for edification.

¹⁴ For the entire Law is fulfilled in in this one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

¹⁰ So then, as we have occasion, we should work good toward all, and especially toward those of the household of the faith.

⁸ If indeed you keep the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.
