⁵ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ἐλπὶς (hope) οὐ (not) καταισχύνει (does make us ashamed), ὅτι (because) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐκκέχυται (has been poured out) ἐν (into) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us) διὰ (through) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), τοῦ (the One) δοθέντος (having been given) ἡμῖν (to us).

³⁶ “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), ποία (which) ἐντολὴ (commandment) μεγάλη (is the greatest) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law)?” ³⁷ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἔφη (He said) αὐτῷ (to him), “‘Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) κύριον (the Lord) τὸν (the) Θεόν (God) σου (of you) ἐν (with) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (the) ψυχῇ (soul) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (the) διανοίᾳ (mind) σου (of you).’

¹⁷ ‘Καὶ (And) ἔσται (it will be) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἐσχάταις (last) ἡμέραις (days), λέγει (says) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), ἐκχεῶ (I will pour out) ἀπὸ (of) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματός (Spirit) μου (of Me) ἐπὶ (upon) πᾶσαν (all) σάρκα (flesh); καὶ (and) προφητεύσουσιν (will prophesy) οἱ (the) υἱοὶ (sons) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) θυγατέρες (daughters) ὑμῶν (of you); καὶ (and) οἱ (the) νεανίσκοι (young men) ὑμῶν (of you) ὁράσεις (visions) ὄψονται (will see), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐνυπνίοις (dreams) ἐνυπνιασθήσονται (will dream);

³³ τῇ (To the) δεξιᾷ (right hand) οὖν (therefore) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ὑψωθεὶς (having been exalted), τήν (-) τε (and) ἐπαγγελίαν (the promise) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) τοῦ (-) Ἁγίου (Holy) λαβὼν (having received) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father), ἐξέχεεν (He has poured out) τοῦτο (this) ὃ (which) ὑμεῖς (you) καὶ (both) βλέπετε (are seeing) καὶ (and) ἀκούετε (hearing).

¹⁴ ὅσοι (As many as) γὰρ (for) Πνεύματι (by the Spirit) Θεοῦ (of God) ἄγονται (are led), οὗτοι (these) υἱοί (sons) εἰσιν (are) Θεοῦ (of God). ¹⁵ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐλάβετε (you have received) πνεῦμα (a spirit) δουλείας (of bondage) πάλιν (again) εἰς (to) φόβον (fear), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐλάβετε (you have received) πνεῦμα (the Spirit) υἱοθεσίας (of divine adoption as sons), ἐν (by) ᾧ (whom) κράζομεν (we cry), “Ἀββᾶ (Abba)! ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father)!” ¹⁶ αὐτὸ (Himself) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) συμμαρτυρεῖ (bears witness with) τῷ (the) πνεύματι (spirit) ἡμῶν (of us) ὅτι (that) ἐσμὲν (we are) τέκνα (children) Θεοῦ (of God). ¹⁷ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) τέκνα (children), καὶ (also) κληρονόμοι (heirs), κληρονόμοι (heirs) μὲν (indeed) Θεοῦ (of God), συνκληρονόμοι (joint-heirs) δὲ (now) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), εἴπερ (if indeed) συμπάσχομεν (we suffer with Him), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) συνδοξασθῶμεν (we may be glorified together).

²⁸ Οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) τοῖς (to those) ἀγαπῶσιν (loving) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), πάντα (all things) συνεργεῖ (works together) (ὁ (-) θεὸς) (God) εἰς (for) ἀγαθόν (good), τοῖς (to those) κατὰ (according to) πρόθεσιν (His purpose) κλητοῖς (called) οὖσιν (being).

³ εἰ (If) δέ (however) τις (anyone) ἀγαπᾷ (loves) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), οὗτος (he) ἔγνωσται (is known) ὑπ’ (by) αὐτοῦ (Him).

²² ὁ (the One) καὶ (also) σφραγισάμενος (having sealed) ἡμᾶς (us), καὶ (and) δοὺς (having given) τὸν (the) ἀρραβῶνα (pledge) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us).

¹⁸ ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (now) πάντες (all), ἀνακεκαλυμμένῳ (having been unveiled) προσώπῳ (in face), τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) Κυρίου (of the Lord) κατοπτριζόμενοι (beholding as in a mirror), τὴν (the) αὐτὴν (same) εἰκόνα (image) μεταμορφούμεθα (are being transformed into), ἀπὸ (from) δόξης (glory) εἰς (to) δόξαν (glory), καθάπερ (even as) ἀπὸ (from) Κυρίου (the Lord), Πνεύματος (the Spirit).

⁶ ὅτι (For it is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὁ (-) εἰπών (having said), “Ἐκ (Out of) σκότους (darkness) φῶς (light) λάμψει (shall shine),” ὃς (who) ἔλαμψεν (shone) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us) πρὸς (for the) φωτισμὸν (radiance) τῆς (of the) γνώσεως (knowledge) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) προσώπῳ (the face) [Ἰησοῦ] (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

⁶ Ὅτι (Because) δέ (now) ἐστε (you are) υἱοί (sons), ἐξαπέστειλεν (sent forth) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us), κρᾶζον (crying out), “Ἀββᾶ (Abba), ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father)!”

²² Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) καρπὸς (the fruit) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματός (Spirit) ἐστιν (is) ἀγάπη (love), χαρά (joy), εἰρήνη (peace), μακροθυμία (patience), χρηστότης (kindness), ἀγαθωσύνη (goodness), πίστις (faithfulness),

¹⁶ ἵνα (that) δῷ (He might give) ὑμῖν (you) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), δυνάμει (with power), κραταιωθῆναι (to be strengthened) διὰ (by) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (in) τὸν (the) ἔσω (inner) ἄνθρωπον (man), ¹⁷ κατοικῆσαι (for to dwell) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) πίστεως (faith) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love) ἐρριζωμένοι (being rooted) καὶ (and) τεθεμελιωμένοι (being founded), ¹⁸ ἵνα (so that) ἐξισχύσητε (you may be fully able) καταλαβέσθαι (to comprehend) σὺν (with) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (the) ἁγίοις (saints) τί (what is) τὸ (the) πλάτος (breadth) καὶ (and) μῆκος (length) καὶ (and) ὕψος (height) καὶ (and) βάθος (depth), ¹⁹ γνῶναί (to know) τε (then) τὴν (the) ὑπερβάλλουσαν (surpassing) τῆς (-) γνώσεως (knowledge) ἀγάπην (love) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ἵνα (so that) πληρωθῆτε (you may be filled) εἰς (unto) πᾶν (all) τὸ (the) πλήρωμα (fullness) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

³⁰ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) λυπεῖτε (grieve) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) ἐσφραγίσθητε (you were sealed) εἰς (for) ἡμέραν (the day) ἀπολυτρώσεως (of redemption).

²⁰ κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἀποκαραδοκίαν (earnest expectation) καὶ (and) ἐλπίδα (hope) μου (of me) ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) οὐδενὶ (nothing) αἰσχυνθήσομαι (I will be ashamed), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) παρρησίᾳ (boldness), ὡς (as) πάντοτε (always) καὶ (also) νῦν (now), μεγαλυνθήσεται (will be magnified) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σώματί (body) μου (of me), εἴτε (whether) διὰ (by) ζωῆς (life) εἴτε (or) διὰ (by) θανάτου (death).

¹⁶ Αὐτὸς (Himself) δὲ (now) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἡμῶν (of us), ὁ (the One) ἀγαπήσας (having loved) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) δοὺς (having given us) παράκλησιν (comfort) αἰωνίαν (eternal) καὶ (and) ἐλπίδα (hope) ἀγαθὴν (good) ἐν (by) χάριτι (grace),

¹² Δι’ (For) ἣν (this) αἰτίαν (reason) καὶ (also) ταῦτα (these things) πάσχω (I suffer). ἀλλ’ (But) οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνομαι (I am ashamed); οἶδα (I know) γὰρ (for) ᾧ (whom) πεπίστευκα (I have believed), καὶ (and) πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) ὅτι (that) δυνατός (able) ἐστιν (He is) τὴν (the) παραθήκην (deposit entrusted) μου (of me) φυλάξαι (to guard) εἰς (for) ἐκείνην (that) τὴν (-) ἡμέραν (day).

⁵ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) ἃ (that) ἐποιήσαμεν (did) ἡμεῖς (we), ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (-) αὐτοῦ (His) ἔλεος (mercy), ἔσωσεν (He saved) ἡμᾶς (us) διὰ (through) λουτροῦ (the washing) παλινγενεσίας (of regeneration) καὶ (and) ἀνακαινώσεως (renewing) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), ⁶ οὗ (whom) ἐξέχεεν (He poured out) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us) πλουσίως (richly) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τοῦ (the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us),

¹⁸ ἵνα (so that) διὰ (by) δύο (two) πραγμάτων (things) ἀμεταθέτων (unchangeable), ἐν (in) οἷς (which) ἀδύνατον (it is impossible) ψεύσασθαι (to lie) [τὸν] (-) Θεόν (for God), ἰσχυρὰν (strong) παράκλησιν (encouragement) ἔχωμεν (we may have), οἱ (-) καταφυγόντες (having fled for refuge), κρατῆσαι (to take hold) τῆς (of the) προκειμένης (being set before us) ἐλπίδος (hope), ¹⁹ ἣν (which) ὡς (as) ἄγκυραν (an anchor) ἔχομεν (we have) τῆς (of the) ψυχῆς (soul), ἀσφαλῆ (sure) τε (both) καὶ (and) βεβαίαν (unshakable) καὶ (and) εἰσερχομένην (entering) εἰς (into) τὸ (that) ἐσώτερον (within) τοῦ (the) καταπετάσματος (veil),

¹⁰ ὅτι (For) αὕτη (this is) ἡ (the) διαθήκη (covenant) ἣν (that) διαθήσομαι (I will make) τῷ (with the) οἴκῳ (house) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel), μετὰ (after) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days) ἐκείνας (those), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord), διδοὺς (putting) νόμους (Laws) μου (of Me) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) διάνοιαν (mind) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) καρδίας (hearts) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπιγράψω (I will inscribe) αὐτούς (them); καὶ (and) ἔσομαι (I will be) αὐτοῖς (to them) εἰς (for) Θεόν (God), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) ἔσονταί (will be) μοι (to Me) εἰς (for) λαόν (a people). ¹¹ καὶ (And) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) διδάξωσιν (shall they teach) ἕκαστος (each) τὸν (the) πολίτην (neighbor) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) ἕκαστος (each) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him) λέγων (saying), ‘Γνῶθι (Know) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord),’ ὅτι (because) πάντες (all) εἰδήσουσίν (will know) με (Me), ἀπὸ (from) μικροῦ (the least) ἕως (to the) μεγάλου (greatest) αὐτῶν (of them), ¹² ὅτι (because) ἵλεως (merciful) ἔσομαι (I will be) ταῖς (toward the) ἀδικίαις (iniquities) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) αὐτῶν (of them) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) μνησθῶ (I shall remember) ἔτι (more).

¹⁹ Ἡμεῖς (We) ἀγαπῶμεν (love) ὅτι (because) αὐτὸς (He) πρῶτος (first) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ἡμᾶς (us).
