⁴⁰ ἐν (On) ταύταις (these) ταῖς (-) δυσὶν (two) ἐντολαῖς (commandments), ὅλος (all) ὁ (the) νόμος (law) κρέμαται (hangs) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) προφῆται (Prophets).”

¹² Πάντα (All things) οὖν (therefore), ὅσα (as many as) ἐὰν (if) θέλητε (you might desire) ἵνα (that) ποιῶσιν (should do) ὑμῖν (to you) οἱ (the) ἄνθρωποι (men), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ποιεῖτε (do) αὐτοῖς (to them). οὗτος (This) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) νόμος (law) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) προφῆται (prophets).

¹⁷ ὅτι (For) ὁ (the) νόμος (law) διὰ (through) Μωϋσέως (Moses) ἐδόθη (was given); ἡ (-) χάρις (grace) καὶ (and) ἡ (-) ἀλήθεια (truth) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐγένετο (came).

¹⁹ Οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) ὅσα (whatever) ὁ (the) νόμος (law) λέγει (says), τοῖς (to those) ἐν (under) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law) λαλεῖ (it speaks), ἵνα (so that) πᾶν (every) στόμα (mouth) φραγῇ (may be stopped), καὶ (and) ὑπόδικος (under judgment) γένηται (may be) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God). ²⁰ διότι (Therefore) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works) νόμου (of the Law) οὐ (not) δικαιωθήσεται (will be justified) πᾶσα (any) σὰρξ (flesh) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him); διὰ (through) γὰρ (for) νόμου (the Law) ἐπίγνωσις (is knowledge) ἁμαρτίας (of sin). ²¹ Νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however), χωρὶς (apart from) νόμου (law), δικαιοσύνη (the righteousness) Θεοῦ (of God) πεφανέρωται (has been revealed), μαρτυρουμένη (being borne witness to) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) νόμου (Law) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (Prophets),

⁹ τὸ (-) γάρ (For), “Οὐ (Not) μοιχεύσεις (you shall commit adultery),” “Οὐ (Not) φονεύσεις (you shall murder),” “Οὐ (Not) κλέψεις (you shall steal),” “Οὐκ (Not) ἐπιθυμήσεις (you shall covet),” καὶ (and) εἴ (if) τις (any) ἑτέρα (other) ἐντολή (commandment), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) λόγῳ (word) τούτῳ (this) ἀνακεφαλαιοῦται (it is summed up), ἐν (in) τῷ (the saying): “Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) τὸν (the) πλησίον (neighbor) σου (of you) ὡς (as) σεαυτόν (yourself).”

⁵ Τὸ (-) δὲ (And) τέλος (the goal) τῆς (of our) παραγγελίας (instruction) ἐστὶν (is) ἀγάπη (love) ἐκ (out of) καθαρᾶς (a pure) καρδίας (heart) καὶ (and) συνειδήσεως (a conscience) ἀγαθῆς (good) καὶ (and) πίστεως (a faith) ἀνυποκρίτου (sincere),

⁸ Εἰ (If) μέντοι (indeed) νόμον (the law) τελεῖτε (you keep) βασιλικὸν (royal), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) γραφήν (Scripture), “Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) τὸν (the) πλησίον (neighbor) σου (of you) ὡς (as) σεαυτόν (yourself),” καλῶς (well) ποιεῖτε (you are doing).

⁷ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another), ὅτι (because) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (is); καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἀγαπῶν (loving), ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) γεγέννηται (has been born), καὶ (and) γινώσκει (knows) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God). ⁸ ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving), οὐκ (not) ἔγνω (has known) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ὅτι (because) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀγάπη (love) ἐστίν (is). ⁹ Ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐφανερώθη (has been revealed) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (among) ἡμῖν (us), ὅτι (that) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τὸν (the) μονογενῆ (one and only), ἀπέσταλκεν (has sent) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ἵνα (so that) ζήσωμεν (we might live) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him). ¹⁰ ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love), οὐχ (not) ὅτι (that) ἡμεῖς (we) ἠγαπήκαμεν (loved) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅτι (that) αὐτὸς (He) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) ἀπέστειλεν (sent) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἱλασμὸν (as a propitiation) περὶ (for) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ἡμῶν (of us). ¹¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), εἰ (if) οὕτως (so) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ἡμᾶς (us), καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) ὀφείλομεν (ought) ἀλλήλους (one another) ἀγαπᾶν (to love).

¹⁹ Ἡμεῖς (We) ἀγαπῶμεν (love) ὅτι (because) αὐτὸς (He) πρῶτος (first) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ἡμᾶς (us). ²⁰ Ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) εἴπῃ (should say) ὅτι (-), “Ἀγαπῶ (I love) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God),” καὶ (and) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him) μισῇ (should hate), ψεύστης (a liar) ἐστίν (he is). ὁ (The one) γὰρ (for) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), ὃν (whom) ἑώρακεν (he has seen), τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), ὃν (whom) οὐχ (not) ἑώρακεν (he has seen), οὐ (not) δύναται (is he able) ἀγαπᾶν (to love). ²¹ καὶ (And) ταύτην (this) τὴν (the) ἐντολὴν (commandment) ἔχομεν (we have) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him), ἵνα (that) ὁ (the one) ἀγαπῶν (loving) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἀγαπᾷ (should love) καὶ (also) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him).
