¹ Διώκετε (Earnestly pursue) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love); ζηλοῦτε (earnestly desire) δὲ (now) τὰ (-) πνευματικά (spiritual gifts), μᾶλλον (especially) δὲ (now) ἵνα (that) προφητεύητε (you might prophesy).

³⁰ Τί (What) οὖν (then) ἐροῦμεν (will we say)? ὅτι (That) ἔθνη (Gentiles) τὰ (-) μὴ (not) διώκοντα (pursuing) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), κατέλαβεν (have attained) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) δὲ (now) τὴν (that is) ἐκ (by) πίστεως (faith);

⁶ Ἔχοντες (We are having) δὲ (however) χαρίσματα (gifts) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τὴν (-) δοθεῖσαν (having been given) ἡμῖν (to us) διάφορα (different): εἴτε (if) προφητείαν (prophecy), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἀναλογίαν (proportion) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (faith);

¹⁹ Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), τὰ (the things) τῆς (-) εἰρήνης (of peace) διώκωμεν* (we should pursue), καὶ (and) τὰ (the things) τῆς (-) οἰκοδομῆς (for edification) τῆς (-) εἰς (among) ἀλλήλους (each other).

¹ Περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῶν (-) πνευματικῶν (spiritual gifts), ἀδελφοί (brothers), οὐ (not) θέλω (I do want) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀγνοεῖν (to be ignorant).

³¹ ζηλοῦτε (Be desirous of) δὲ (however) τὰ (the) χαρίσματα (gifts) τὰ (-) μείζονα (greater). Καὶ (And) ἔτι (now), καθ’ (according to) ὑπερβολὴν (a more surpassing) ὁδὸν (way), ὑμῖν (to you) δείκνυμι (I show).

¹³ Νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however) μένει (abide) πίστις (faith), ἐλπίς (hope), ἀγάπη (love), τὰ (the things) τρία (three) ταῦτα (these); μείζων (the greatest) δὲ (however) τούτων (of these is) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love).

³ ὁ (The one) δὲ (however) προφητεύων (prophesying), ἀνθρώποις (to men) λαλεῖ (speaks for) οἰκοδομὴν (edification), καὶ (and) παράκλησιν (encouragement), καὶ (and) παραμυθίαν (consolation). ⁴ ὁ (The one) λαλῶν (speaking) γλώσσῃ (in a tongue), ἑαυτὸν (himself) οἰκοδομεῖ (edifies); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) προφητεύων (prophesying), ἐκκλησίαν (the church) οἰκοδομεῖ (edifies). ⁵ Θέλω (I desire) δὲ (now) πάντας (all) ὑμᾶς (you) λαλεῖν (to speak) γλώσσαις (in tongues), μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (however) ἵνα (that) προφητεύητε (you should prophesy); μείζων (greater is) δὲ (now) ὁ (the one) προφητεύων (prophesying) ἢ (than) ὁ (the one) λαλῶν (speaking) γλώσσαις (in tongues), ἐκτὸς (except) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) διερμηνεύῃ (he should interpret), ἵνα (so that) ἡ (the) ἐκκλησία (church) οἰκοδομὴν (edification) λάβῃ (might receive).

²⁴ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) πάντες (all) προφητεύωσιν (prophesy), εἰσέλθῃ (should come in) δέ (then) τις (some) ἄπιστος (unbeliever) ἢ (or) ἰδιώτης (uninstructed), ἐλέγχεται (he is convicted) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all), ἀνακρίνεται (he is examined) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all), ²⁵ τὰ (the) κρυπτὰ (secrets) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him) φανερὰ (manifest) γίνεται (become). καὶ (And) οὕτως (thus) πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (upon) πρόσωπον (his face), προσκυνήσει (he will worship) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God), ἀπαγγέλλων (declaring) ὅτι (that) Ὄντως (certainly) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) ἐστιν (is).

³⁷ Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) δοκεῖ (considers) προφήτης (a prophet) εἶναι (himself to be), ἢ (or) πνευματικός (spiritual), ἐπιγινωσκέτω (let him recognize) ἃ (the things) γράφω (I write) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐστὶν (are) ἐντολή (the commands).

³⁹ Ὥστε (So), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me), ζηλοῦτε (earnestly desire) τὸ (-) προφητεύειν (to prophesy), καὶ (and) τὸ (-) λαλεῖν (to speak) μὴ (not) κωλύετε (do forbid) γλώσσαις (in tongues).

¹⁴ πάντα (All things) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love) γινέσθω (let be done).

³ Εὐλογητὸς (Blessed be) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (and) Πατὴρ (Father) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the One) εὐλογήσας (having blessed) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (with) πάσῃ (every) εὐλογίᾳ (blessing) πνευματικῇ (spiritual) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ),

²⁰ προφητείας (Prophecies) μὴ (not) ἐξουθενεῖτε (do despise).

¹⁴ Μὴ (Not) ἀμέλει (be negligent) τοῦ (of the) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) χαρίσματος (gift), ὃ (which) ἐδόθη (was given) σοι (to you) διὰ (through) προφητείας (prophecy), μετὰ (with) ἐπιθέσεως (the laying on) τῶν (of the) χειρῶν (hands) τοῦ (of the) πρεσβυτερίου (elderhood).

¹⁰ ἐν (in) ἔργοις (works) καλοῖς (good) μαρτυρουμένη (being borne witness to), εἰ (if) ἐτεκνοτρόφησεν (she has brought up children), εἰ (if) ἐξενοδόχησεν (she entertained strangers), εἰ (if) ἁγίων (saints’) πόδας (feet) ἔνιψεν (she has washed), εἰ (if to those) θλιβομένοις (being oppressed) ἐπήρκεσεν (she has imparted relief), εἰ (if) παντὶ (every) ἔργῳ (work) ἀγαθῷ (good) ἐπηκολούθησεν (she has followed after).

¹¹ Σὺ (You) δέ (however), ὦ (O) ἄνθρωπε (man) Θεοῦ (of God), ταῦτα (these things) φεῦγε (flee); δίωκε (pursue) δὲ (now) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), εὐσέβειαν (godliness), πίστιν (faith), ἀγάπην (love), ὑπομονήν (endurance), πραϋπαθίαν (and gentleness).

²² Τὰς (-) δὲ (And) νεωτερικὰς (youthful) ἐπιθυμίας (lusts) φεῦγε (flee); δίωκε (pursue) δὲ (now) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), πίστιν (faith), ἀγάπην (love), εἰρήνην (and peace), μετὰ (along with) τῶν (those) ἐπικαλουμένων (calling on) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) ἐκ (out of) καθαρᾶς (pure) καρδίας (a heart).

¹⁴ Εἰρήνην (Peace) διώκετε (pursue) μετὰ (with) πάντων (all), καὶ (and) τὸν (-) ἁγιασμόν (holiness), οὗ (which) χωρὶς (without) οὐδεὶς (no one) ὄψεται (will see) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord),

¹¹ ἐκκλινάτω (Let him turn away) δὲ (also) ἀπὸ (from) κακοῦ (evil), καὶ (and) ποιησάτω (let him do) ἀγαθόν (good). ζητησάτω (Let him seek) εἰρήνην (peace) καὶ (and) διωξάτω (let him pursue) αὐτήν (it). ¹² ὅτι (Because) ὀφθαλμοὶ (the eyes) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐπὶ (are on) δικαίους (the righteous), καὶ (and) ὦτα (the ears) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (toward) δέησιν (prayer) αὐτῶν (of them). πρόσωπον (The face) δὲ (however) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐπὶ (is against) ποιοῦντας (those doing) κακά (evil).” ¹³ Καὶ (And) τίς (who is) ὁ (he who) κακώσων (will harm) ὑμᾶς (you), ἐὰν (if) τοῦ (for that which is) ἀγαθοῦ (good), ζηλωταὶ (zealous) γένησθε (you should be)?

⁷ ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) εὐσεβείᾳ (godliness) τὴν (-) φιλαδελφίαν (brotherly affection), ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) φιλαδελφίᾳ (brotherly affection) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love).

¹¹ Ἀγαπητέ (Beloved), μὴ (not) μιμοῦ (do imitate) τὸ (what is) κακὸν (evil), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (what is) ἀγαθόν (good). ὁ (The one) ἀγαθοποιῶν (doing good), ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (is); ὁ (the one) κακοποιῶν (doing evil), οὐχ (not) ἑώρακεν (has seen) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God).
