¹⁸ The evil-doer will be given as a price for the life of the good man, and the worker of deceit in the place of the upright.

⁸ The upright man is taken out of trouble, and in his place comes the sinner.

³ For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your saviour; I have given Egypt as a price for you, Ethiopia and Seba for you. ⁴ Because of your value in my eyes, you have been honoured, and loved by me; so I will give men for you, and peoples for your life.

⁴ But it was our pain he took, and our diseases were put on him: while to us he seemed as one diseased, on whom God's punishment had come. ⁵ But it was for our sins he was wounded, and for our evil doings he was crushed: he took the punishment by which we have peace, and by his wounds we are made well.
