²⁷ For as the lightning comes out from the east, and shines even to the west, so also shall the coming of the Son of man be.

²⁴ For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven, shines to an other part under heaven, so shall the Son of man be in his day. ²⁵ But first he must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation. ²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, till the day in which Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ In like manner also, as it was in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; ²⁹ but in the day in which Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even thus shall it be in the day in which the Son of man is revealed. ³¹ In that day, let not him that is on the house-top, and whose goods are in the house, come down to take them away. Likewise, he that is in the field, let him not turn back. ³² Remember Lot's wife. ³³ Whoever will seek to save his life, shall lose it; and whoever will lose his life, shall save it. ³⁴ I say to you, on that night two men shall be in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other left. ³⁵ Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. ³⁶ Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. ³⁷ And they answered and said to him. Where, Lord? And he said to them: Where the body is, there will the vultures be gathered.

⁸ Be you also patient, establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws near.

⁴ and saying: Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
