²⁰ Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee, with her sons, bowing down, and asking something of him.

¹¹ And having come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother; and falling down, they did him homage. And when they had opened their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

²¹ And going on thence, he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

² And behold, a leper came and did him homage, saying: Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

Jesus said to them: You shall drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be immersed with the immersion with which I am immersed. ⁴⁰ But to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give; but it shall be given to those for whom it is prepared. ⁴¹ And when the ten heard it, they began to be displeased with James and John. ⁴² But Jesus called them to him, and said to them: You know that those who think they rule the Gentiles, act as lords over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it shall not be so among you. But whoever desires to be great among you, shall be your minister; ⁴⁴ and whoever among you desires to be first, shall be servant of all. ⁴⁵ For the Son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
