¹⁶ and any of you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and be filled, and yet give them not the things that are needful for the body, what does this profit them?

¹⁵ And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, and said: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food. ¹⁶ But Jesus said to them: They need not go away; do you give them food.

³² Then Jesus called his disciples to him, and said: I have compassion on the multitude, because they have been with me now three days, and have nothing to eat. And I am not willing to send them away fasting, lest they faint on the road.

⁴² For I was hungry, and you gave me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger, and you took me not to your houses; naked, and you did not clothe me; I was sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me. ⁴⁴ Then they also will answer, and say: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? ⁴⁵ Then will he answer them, saying: Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good;

⁸ I do not speak this as a commandment, but on account of the zeal of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

¹⁶ By this we know the love of Christ, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ Whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother have need, and shuts his heart against him, how dwells the love of God in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth.
