⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? They slew also those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers;

¹² Rejoice, and leap for joy; for great is your reward in heaven: for so did they persecute the prophets who were before you.

³⁵ And the vine-dressers took his servants, and scourged one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the vine-dressers, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and seize upon the inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and carried him out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine dressers? ⁴¹ They said to him: He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and let out his vineyard to other vine dressers, who will give him the fruits in their season.

³¹ So then you testify against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets. ³² Do you also fill up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents, generation of vipers, how can you escape the condemnation of hell? ³⁴ For this reason, behold, I send you prophets and wise men and scribes; and some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood which has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just to the blood of Zachariah, the son of Barachiah, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest those who are sent to thee, how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused.

⁴⁷ Alas for you! for you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Therefore you attest and approve the deeds of your fathers; for they indeed killed them, and you build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ For this reason also the Wisdom of God said: I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and persecute, ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the temple; yes, I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

³³ But I must continue my journey to-day and to-morrow and the day following; for it is not possible that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. ³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent to thee: how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused.

²³ him, delivered up by the fixed purpose and foreknowledge of God, you took, and with wicked hands did crucify and slay:

¹⁴ But you rejected the Holy and Just One, and demanded that a murderer should be given to you; ¹⁵ and you slew the Author of life, whom God has raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

¹⁸ But the things which God fore told by the mouth of all his prophets, that the Christ should suffer, he has thus fulfilled.

²⁴ And all the prophets, from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days.

¹⁰ be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him does this man stand before you in health.

²⁸ saying: Did we not strictly charge you not to teach in this name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us. ²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered and said: "We must obey God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers has raised up Jesus, whom you slew by hanging him on a tree.

¹⁴ And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen you, that you should know his will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of his mouth;

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and do not please God, and are opposed to all men,

¹¹ inquiring what things, and what time, the Spirit of Christ that was in them did signify, when it testified, before hand, the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow them;

¹ My little children, I write these things to you, that you may not sin: and yet, if any one sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia, write: These things says he that is holy, he that is true, he that has the key of David, he that opens and no man shuts, and shuts and no man opens;

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him; and he said to me: See that you do it not; I am your fellow-servant, and of your brethren that have the testimony of Jesus; worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
