¹ In those days, when the disciples were increasing in number, there arose a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

¹³ But alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you eat up the houses of widows, and for a pretext make long prayers. For this reason, you shall receive the greater condemnation.

⁴¹ Then they that gladly received his word were immersed, and on that day there were added to them about three thou sand souls.

⁴⁵ and they sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, as each had need.

⁴⁷ praising God, and being in favor with all the people. And the Lord added the saved daily to the Church.

⁴ But many of those who heard the word, believed: and the number of the men was about five thousand.

³⁵ and laid them down at the feet of the apostles; and distribution was made to every one as he had need.

¹⁴ And believers in the Lord were more and more added to them, multitudes both of men and women;)

²⁸ saying: Did we not strictly charge you not to teach in this name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

⁷ And the word of God increased, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was greatly multiplied; and a great multitude of the priests became obedient to the faith.

²⁹ he conversed and reasoned with the Hellenists; but they under took to kill him.

³⁹ Then Peter arose, and went with them; and when he had come, they brought him into the upper room; and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.

⁴¹ And he gave her his hand, and raised her up. And when he had called in the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.

²⁰ But some of them were men of Cyprus and Gyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

¹⁰ Nor do you murmur, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

²² Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they of the posterity of Abraham? So am I.

⁵ circumcised the eighth day, of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; as it respects law, a Pharisee;

⁴ But if any widow has children or grand-children, let them learn first to be dutiful to their own family, and to requite their parents; for that is good and acceptable in the sight of God. ⁵ But she that is a widow indeed, and left alone, trusts in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.

⁹ Let a widow be put on the list, if she is not under sixty years, having been the wife of one man,

¹ Let brotherly love continue.

²⁷ Religion, pure and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

⁵ Do you suppose that the scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the Spirit that dwells in us incline to envy? No.

⁹ Indulge not in complaints against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.
