¹ A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee:
My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee,
In a dry and weary land, where no water is.

² Jehovah is my strength and song,
And he is become my salvation:
This is my God, and I will praise him;
My father's God, and I will exalt him.

³ And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore hast thou brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

⁵ And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the stronghold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.

¹⁴ And David abode in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill-country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
¹⁵ And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the wood. ¹⁶ And Jonathan, Saul's son, arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

²³ See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking-places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me of a certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.
²⁴ And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert. ²⁵ And Saul and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down to the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard [that], he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

¹ And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert? ² Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³ And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

²⁸ See, I will tarry at the fords of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.

⁵ If thou wouldest seek diligently unto God,
And make thy supplication to the Almighty;

³ O Jehovah, in the morning shalt thou hear my voice;
In the morning will I order [my prayer] unto thee, and will keep watch.

¹⁴ But I trusted in thee, O Jehovah:
I said, Thou art my God.

As the hart panteth after the water brooks,
So panteth my soul after thee, O God. ² My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:
When shall I come and appear before God?

¹¹ Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
And why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him,
[Who is] the help of my countenance, and my God.

³⁴ When he slew them, then they inquired after him;
And they returned and sought God earnestly.

² My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of Jehovah;
My heart and my flesh cry out unto the living God.

² I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in whom I trust.

³ For my days consume away like smoke,
And my bones are burned as a firebrand. ⁴ My heart is smitten like grass, and withered;
For I forget to eat my bread. ⁵ By reason of the voice of my groaning
My bones cleave to my flesh.

²⁸ Thou art my God, and I will give thanks unto thee:
Thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

⁸¹ KAPH.

My soul fainteth for thy salvation;
[But] I hope in thy word.

⁶ I spread forth my hands unto thee:
My soul [thirsteth] after thee, as a weary land. [Selah

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will;
For thou art my God:
Thy Spirit is good;
Lead me in the land of uprightness.

²⁷ When your fear cometh as a storm,
And your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind;
When distress and anguish come upon you. ²⁸ Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer;
They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:

¹⁷ I love them that love me;
And those that seek me diligently shall find me.

¹ By night on my bed
I sought him whom my soul loveth:
I sought him, but I found him not. ² [I said], I will rise now, and go about the city;
In the streets and in the broad ways
I will seek him whom my soul loveth:
I sought him, but I found him not. ³ The watchmen that go about the city found me;
[To whom I said], Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

⁸ I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
If ye find my beloved,
That ye tell him, that I am sick from love.

² And a man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a great rock in a weary land.

⁷ And the glowing sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water: in the habitation of jackals, where they lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

¹⁸ I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

¹ At that time, saith Jehovah, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me earnestly.

⁹ And I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.

³³ But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

⁴³ But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not.

³⁷ Now on the last day, the great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, { If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.

¹⁷ Jesus saith to her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended unto the Father: but go unto my brethren, and say to them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and my God and your God.

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun strike upon them, nor any heat: ¹⁷ for the Lamb that is in the midst of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them unto fountains of waters of life: and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.
