²¹ Evil shall slay the wicked;
And they that hate the righteous shall be condemned.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

⁴ And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good: ⁵ for he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and Jehovah wrought a great victory for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice; wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

⁴ Then said Saul to his armorbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

⁸ And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

³⁷ So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the just,
And gnasheth upon him with his teeth. ¹³ The Lord will laugh at him;
For he seeth that his day is coming. ¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy,
To slay such as are upright in the way. ¹⁵ Their sword shall enter into their own heart,
And their bows shall be broken.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous talketh of wisdom,
And his tongue speaketh justice. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart;
None of his steps shall slide. ³² The wicked watcheth the righteous,
And seeketh to slay him. ³³ Jehovah will not leave him in his hand,
Nor condemn him when he is judged. ³⁴ Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way,
And he will exalt thee to inherit the land:
When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. ³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power,
And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. ³⁶ But one passed by, and, lo, he was not:
Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. ³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright;
For there is a [happy] end to the man of peace. ³⁸ As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together;
The end of the wicked shall be cut off. ³⁹ But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah;
He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ And Jehovah helpeth them, and rescueth them;
He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them,
Because they have taken refuge in him.

¹⁵ Let them be desolate by reason of their shame
That say unto me, Aha, aha.

²³ And I will beat down his adversaries before him,
And smite them that hate him.

²³ And he hath brought upon them their own iniquity,
And will cut them off in their own wickedness;
Jehovah our God will cut them off.

¹⁶ For a righteous man falleth seven times, and riseth up again;
But the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

¹¹ Woe unto the wicked! [it shall be] ill [with him]; for what his hands have done shall be done unto him.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us.

²⁷ But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.}

⁴¹ And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, { If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.}

⁷ The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.

¹⁸ If the world hateth you, ye know that it hath hated me before [it hated] you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove out us, and please not God, and are contrary to all men; ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always: but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

⁶ if so be that it is a righteous thing with God to recompense affliction to them that afflict you,

⁹ who shall suffer punishment, [even] eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
