³⁰ That the godless man reign not,
That there be none to ensnare the people.

²⁸ Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan. ³⁰ And this thing became a sin; for the people went [to worship] before the one, even unto Dan.

⁹ But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do that which is evil more than did the nations whom Jehovah destroyed before the children of Israel.

²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,
And he seeth all his goings.

⁸ The wicked walk on every side,
When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

² When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice;
But when a wicked man beareth rule, the people sigh. ³ Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father;
But he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance. ⁴ The king by justice establisheth the land;
But he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it. ⁵ A man that flattereth his neighbor
Spreadeth a net for his steps. ⁶ In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare;
But the righteous doth sing and rejoice. ⁷ The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor;
The wicked hath not understanding to know [it]. ⁸ Scoffers set a city in a flame;
But wise men turn away wrath. ⁹ If a wise man hath a controversy with a foolish man,
Whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest. ¹⁰ The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect;
And as for the upright, they seek his life. ¹¹ A fool uttereth all his anger;
But a wise man keepeth it back and stilleth it. ¹² If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood,
All his servants are wicked.

¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; because he was content to walk after [man's] command.

¹¹ I have given thee a king in mine anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I may make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: and ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

⁴ he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God. ⁵ Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And now ye know that which restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only [there is] one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way. ⁸ And then shall be revealed the lawless one, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nought by the manifestation of his coming; ⁹ [even he], whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:

³ And [I saw] one of his heads as though it had been smitten unto death; and his death-stroke was healed: and the whole earth wondered after the beast; ⁴ and they worshipped the dragon, because he gave his authority unto the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? and who is able to war with him?

¹¹ And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like unto a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. ¹² And he exerciseth all the authority of the first beast in his sight. And he maketh the earth and them that dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose death-stroke was healed. ¹³ And he doeth great signs, that he should even make fire to come down out of heaven upon the earth in the sight of men. ¹⁴ And he deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by reason of the signs which it was given him to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who hath the stroke of the sword and lived.
